Hillary Clinton's actions as a senator in 2002 were instrumental in getting Congress to approve the invasion of Iraq in 2003. And Congress is the only entity in the US who is allowed to declare war. Furthermore, she threatened to use the military against Russia last August based on the allegations that the Russian government was involved with Wikileaks somehow. Don't even get me started on her time as Secretary of State. If she had won the election, I'm confident the US military would be directl…

Is this really something that happens this often? People having double standards? Yeah, double-standards are really just an example of human selfishness, and human beings are incredibly selfish by nature. It's not a gender thing, it's a human thing. I think the thing is that if you're a man looking at women, you're more likely to notice the women's double standards than you will notice men having double standards. And vice versa.

I came here from r/all too. I feel the same way. I enjoy seeing sexist women being torn down for being sexist assholes, so I appreciate it when that kind of content makes it into my feed, but I'm not really interested in hating on assholes just because they happen to be women.

I'm no expert, but it looks like this subreddit is not only for instances of women abusing special privilege that they expect due to being women, it's also sometimes for hating on assholes who happen to be women even when their shitty behavior is not necessarily directly related to their gender or taking advantage of their gender to justify their asshole bullshit.

I was permanently banned from r/feminism for being a feminist a while back. u/demmian is a mod of many of the biggest feminist subs on reddit and he likes to ban feminists even when they don't break any rules or anything. Maybe it's because he just disagrees with them? I honestly have no idea why he does this, but it's REALLY fucking weird and has been going on for years at this point. Google something like "demmian feminist ban" and you should be able to find a bunch of threads all over Reddit …

That subreddit is basically completely overrun with MRAs, and I think they even have the support of the mods there too. Check it out sometime, it's really weird. If you pick the right thread, you might find more than half the comments talking about how all rape victims are just liars even though most women obviously would not make such negative generalizations about all women.

There are gaps all over the place of different kinds. Some MRAs just feel threatened when women want equality, so even though feminists would never say "men should be paid less" or "women should be paid more than men", they argue against women being paid a fair wage or claim that they already ALL are and work as hard as they can to prove that there's no inequities at all for anyone anywhere... even though any good science I've ever seen on the subject admits that there's a minimum of around 5~10…

Do you believe businesses always follow the law? Businesses do whatever the people running the business thinks will be most profitable, and that frequently includes bending or breaking the law.

People posting in good faith are required by law to fully read replies? I'm not allowed to start to read a reply, think "this person is obviously just dumb" and not bother reading the rest of it? What? This is not something I did exclusively for this post, I do it for every post every where. When you have strong opinions and express yourself freely, a lot of people that respond to you are idiots or people just looking for something to be argumentative about. A lot of people just use this subreddit almost exclusively to complain about and generalize women. This sort of poster also likes to blame all of their problems on feminism, which is also grossly generalized against and irrationally hated. Also, the problem of men being not-allowed to wear dresses, for example, is not a point of contention for many MRAs. They care not about those kinds of inequalities, because they don't even want to wear a dress anyway and they're too busy yelling about how eve…

Fathers deserving equal rights to mothers is a stance that most feminists share in my experience. It's an idea that came out of third wave feminism that started way back in the early 90s, so it's been part of feminist ideology for almost three decades now. He's a feminist and proud of it. You can't do some kind of mental gymnastics to try to paint him as a secret MRA or something. He's a feminist, and if you like him, you like a feminist. Deal with it.

What are you talking about? Bernie is a proud feminist himself and almost equally as popular with women as men. This is just some idiot trying to smear Bernie by making up lies.

MRAs aren't respected much in the mainstream because of the rotten reputation some MRAs have managed to give the entire community. Some spew bigoted hatespeech and just use the excuse of "equality" to complain about women and spread misogynous slurs. This is why many people, especially feminists, will laugh at you or think little of you for calling yourself a MRA. If you want the people in your life to respect your message more, I would make an effort to make it clear that you are NOT with those…

So because some feminists are dumb/hateful, that pre-emptively justifies you being dumb and hateful? Wouldn't it be better to recognize that some people are just dumb and instead opt to be the better person instead of stooping to their stupid level? Do you realize that the kind of feminists who are dumb/hateful use the same stupid logic you are right now to justify their dumb hate against anyone who would call themself a MRA?

How can you reconcile that thought with the fact that plenty of people, such as myself, are both advocates for men's issues AND are also feminists as well?
/r/MensRights29/01/16 09:15 PM

Why does that not work exactly as well in reverse? Why are women automatically the locks in that scenario? Because men are men and women are less than men. At least that's what that person thinks. Ugh.

No, misogyny, sexism, and mistreatment of women from some members of the MRA community is the reason why MRAs are hated, feared, and generally laughed at. Feminists don't just randomly decide to hate MRAs for no reason, they do it because some MRAs are terrible human beings and the community doesn't do enough to discourage those assholes from expressing their stupid bullshit. Catcalling is not "fun as fuck", it's stupid, and it's shit like that that makes people generalize and hate us all.

You are the reason people fear and hate men's rights activists. You are the reason feminists would push so hard to stop MRA organizations. You are the reason this subreddit is seen as a joke. Now, a man's only chance of working on gender equality there is to work with feminists, and although feminists are generally compassionate about legitimate men's issues, those issues still receive little attention within the feminist sphere. These genres don't readily lend themselves to having female protagonists. Any genre can have any gender in the lead. Thinking otherwise identifies you as sexist and a part of the problem.

The studios do not care at all what a handful of dumb people on the Internet say. Blockbuster box office returns aren't driven by such small amounts of people. It's the same reason why they don't care so much what hardcore fans on the net have to say; the general audience is what drives box office results, and they just don't care what extreme minorities have to say.

This is spot on. Audiences have CLEARLY proven that they're down to see good movies starring women if Hollywood would just make them. Hollywood is failing to deliver, however. So we get some good stuff starring women, like The Force Awakens or The Hunger Games, but it's dramatically outnumbered by movies starring men. Even female-driven blockbusters that are bad have shown that they perform well in the box office if they have a bankable star like Scarlett Johansson or Angelina Jolie. Hell, even …

That's part of it. Another part of it is that Hollywood doesn't take as many chances with female leads, especially for the large budget spectacles that make the most money. For example, we've had a torrent of male-led superhero films raking in dough lately, but we're only JUST NOW going to be getting our first female-led superhero movies in this modern age with Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel coming up. It's not just that audiences are sexist, it's also that the studio doesn't even give us enoug…

I'm all for that. Perhaps I misread them and I apologize if that's the case, but it just seemed as if the tone of that "joke" was dismissive of female victims due to them getting so much extra attention. I just want to be sure that rather than being upset about how much attention women get, we only add support to men so that all victims can all get a lot of attention. This isn't a zero sum game, but many people seem to think it is.

Nice collection of sources, very interesting, and hopefully this message finds those who most need to learn about male victims. I wish this was getting even more attention though. These are the kind of things we should be focusing on here.

the primary damage of domestic violence is mental, and situations involving serious injuries are outliers in any case. I had a girlfriend who hit me, and it wasn't the physical pain she inflicted on me that hurt the most. I was never seriously injured, but that doesn't mean what happened was OK. I think what you said is a great point. Regardless of gender, most instances of abuse require no hospitalization for the victim, it may not even leave a mark. The problem of domestic violence cuts both ways. Men and women are both seriously hurt by the problem in unique ways. In some ways, men may be hurt more, in others, women may be. Each case is also unique, statistics just help us notice trends. That said, it feels almost like you're belittling the plight of certain victims here, and that's not necessary. Male victims of abuse are often overlooked, but while calling attention to that problem, we should be careful that we don't throw other victims …

Men usually aren't the victims of human trafficking because people likeme say they usually aren't? What? Why would the criminals who hold children, teens, and young women as sex slaves in the underground prostitution market care what I have to say on the Internet about men? They're probably referring to problems like stolen private photographs or other ways that women are victimized over the internet that men just don't get as much or experience in unique ways. But stolen photos of women have been traded around the Internet like currency (remember "the fappening"?), spammed all over porn sites without the permissions of the people in the photos, but people don't tend to be anywhere near as interested in similar photos stolen from men. The phrase "press charges" means that you are PRESSING the investigators/police/etc. to CHARGE. A citizen cannot charge anyone with a crime, but they can PRESS those who DO have that power. A citizen presses charges, the DA is the one that is pressed into actually charging.

The only trolling from feminists I've ever seen is in direct response to things like blatant misogyny and hate. The saddest examples are the ones where the men don't even realize how hateful and irrational they're being. I'm talking about the people who see a story about an 11 year old who lied about being raped by her father and felt bad about having lied, and use that as a reason to suggest that all women are just looking to ruin an innocent man's life like that. Older forms of feminism were a LOT less worried about "the rights of men", at least those ones which men lack due to arbitrary social norms. They were basically 100% about getting rid of the roadblocks that women face and men's issues were never even a thing to them. Right to vote, representation in the job force, etc. In the early days of feminism and the women's rights movement, men were only oppressors, never considered to also be hurt by sexism. That is troublesome, but young boys being unfairly tried as adults is not the topic of this thread (a young girl who lied about her father and later revealed her lie) and the problems boys face are only tangentially relevant there. This is why I said in another comment that this was posted not to discuss any issue men face, but just to throw misogyny at this child while also complaining about all women regardless of what they've done.

I never said a 14 year old boy who commits a crime doesn't deserve a similar special understanding to that which we would give to an 11 year old girl who commits a crime. Children are children. When I was 11 years old, I still wet the bed. I think you give 11 year olds too much credit if you think they understand the implications of accusing someone of rape. A lot of adults don't even have the emotional maturity or understanding of the world to really know what that means. ps killing someone is NOT the same thing as lying about having been raped. Because I always assume innocence before guilt, especially if there is no evidence of any crime. If a person appears to be morally good in the here-and-now despite past crimes, I choose to believe that they are and will continue to be until proven otherwise regardless of what mistakes they've made in the past. That's how the Law is defined to work and it ensures that I'm less likely to make unfair generalizations/assumptions about people based on snap judgments, so I think it's a good system to …

Men in their 30s and 40s are being charged with rape and sexual assault that happened when they were teenagers and in their 20s. A sexual crime committed by an adult is not the same as a sexual crime committed by a child. Please don't try to conflate them. Can you imagine if tomorrow some doctors announced that they could reduce HIV transmission by 60% by chopping off a baby's pinkie toe without the child's permission. Yep, if the comparison between female genital mutilation to male circumcision was 1:1 and truly the same, male circumcision would include the removal of the head of the penis in addition to a bunch of the surrounding tissue. It's insane what people do to baby boys here, but it's even more insane what they do to baby girls over there. A jury or judge has no option in a case but to look at the evidence and decide if there is reasonable doubt or not. If evidence is falsified, you cannot get angry at the judge or jury. They are not the ones who falsified the evidence, they are not the investigators who accepted the falsified evidence without enough scrutiny to catch the lie. The child was 11 years old when the crime in question was committed. Children are generally held to lesser standards when they commit crimes due to the fact that they're still learning. That was the point they were making. In the US, black people were discriminated against through segregation from the end of slavery right up to the 1960s. Your odds of getting groped are pretty damn small, when you look at it like that. No feminist group worth their weight would ever "declare all men to be rapists" though, so although the "joke" appears to be structured in response to feminism, it's actually in response to an imaginary boogeyman version of feminism. You know, that ridiculous image of feminists as man-hating women who just want to murder all men? But what's the point in making fun of something that's not even real, something that we all know isn't true? Would it be funny if I said we should kill all women as a r…

Japan DOES have a bad tendency of perverted drunk dudes groping girls. It's not just in Japan or a part of Japanese culture, girls and women are liable to get groped anywhere in the world. Definitely happens in the US plenty, and presumably wherever this photo is from as well. Some people are just disgusting. I don't know if I'd say that this is the best way to address this problem (unfair discrimination based on gender is definitely not ideal), but it's a very real problem everywhere that shoul…

It was just a dumb, unfunny joke that adds nothing to the discussion. Just downvote it and ignore it, calling out the unfunny joke as unfunny doesn't ever lead to anything productive or worthwhile. Your best case scenario is the "joker" getting mad and making a fool of themself, but even that's not worth the trouble.

The very core of feminism is patriarchy theory. This is not true. Please read this: Feminism is a broad philosophical concept. It doesn't mean what you said, nor do most feminists subscribe to that understanding, although a minority may. Because the concept is so broad, there are many different ways of thinking about it, many of them in conflict with other feminist ideas. Feminists aren't oppressing men. All of society does that, but feminists are no more complicit in the oppression of men than you or I are. In fact, feminists I've known have been the least sexist people I've ever known, and generally totally receptive to desires to buck traditional gender expectations even for men. They are not actively campaigning to increase oppression of anyone, they do not speak in favor of oppression of anyone, and if a feminist ever recognizes oppression, they will usually…

I don't know why specifically. People generally aren't hateful towards straight white males just to be hateful of straight white males. That's one of the largest demographics in the US, it doesn't make a lot of sense to blindly hate them. our adversaries What adversaries are you referring to? The faceless, anonymous mass of all of society that is responsible for men's issues in modern society? Because that's where our problems lie, in the sexism built into our very culture and imposed ON everyone BY everyone. Anyone claiming otherwise is just scapegoating and hurting the goal of actually putting an end to the gendered problems we all deal with. There is no "enemy" here, the group responsible for our problems is the ALL.

This is not "us vs them." It adds a "us vs them" flavor when you add in the irrelevant anti-feminism in the middle there. It posits feminists as "the enemy", when we actually share a common enemy in persistent sexist social structures. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Other Once you turn a group of people into the other and vilify them, it's hard to come back from that, even if we could all achieve equality if we could just come together and work as one.

Men and women each face different struggles in our society. A video pointing out some troubles that women face does not suggest that men face no troubles at all. This is basic, elementary school logic. I mean, this is a video about WOMEN. Why would you expect to hear anything about men in a video dedicated to and specifically about women? Criminal men DO do more harm to women than sharks do. Criminals who rape women are frequently not prosecuted due to the victim's fear/shame and even if they are, the crime is INSANELY difficult to prove in a court of law. Plenty of rapists aren't punished appropriately under the law and that is a problem. A person who commits a crime deserves whatever punishment the law defines for that crime. Yes, people are always reluctant to use the word "rape" on "lesser" crimes that are also rape. It's the old "rape vs rape-rape" argument. Some people want to save the word "rape" for the rare instances of a prowler stalking and attacking someone they don't even know, rather than use it in all cases of non-consensual sexual contact.
