The bar for Quasimodo-level treatment, as you put it, is far lower than having a birth defect. If you’re talking online dating, your competition is virtually every age-appropriate man within dozens of miles. Maybe even hundreds, if you’re particularly inspired. If you’re talking in person, women generally tend to be distrustful of men, and the horn effect will exponentially exacerbate that distrust. Exceptions tend to be made for the right guy, and garden variety uggo’s aren’t him.

Very often, people online see crises publicized by other loosely connected groups of like sex/race/orientation and dismiss them as extremists. This simply isn’t true. Lots of people (men and women alike) see lonely men complaining about being lonely and jump straight to ad homs.
/r/PurplePillDebate19/03/26 07:07 PM

I agree with this. But so too do I wish we’d stop talking circles about how a man’s character must be to blame for his romantic failures. Might it be? Sure! Idk that it’s usually the case though. Men in this situation might have developed a complex, but if anything, it comes as a consequence rather than a cause. It doesn’t help, but people seem entirely too mixed up on what likely came first.

“Red pill” and “black pill” are of course better defined, being that “blue pill” is basically a straw man comprised of overly optimistic and largely inaccurate notions. That is to say, most people who one might say are “blue pilled” probably wouldn’t call themselves such (especially considering the derogatory nature of the allegory is that “blue pillers” are delusional) and may not subscribe to everything they are alleged to the degree that is often placed on them, but they believe or at the ver…

I think the bigger issue is just how “no true Scotsman” feminists are lol. At some point, you have to see how feminism actually functions right now. Many of them brigade anything that brushes up against their atmosphere that is even remotely sympathetic to struggling men. Many will double back to doctrine, saying “psh those aren’t real feminists”. But let’s step back a second: how many feminists do you think are “real” (read: academic) feminists? Most are just lay people who support the cause at…

There are so many women on social media literally rooting against men’s mental health broadly and celebrating male suicide rates lol. Gender wars have reached an insane level of dehumanization. Men get put under a microscope a lot in this regard, and probably for good reason. I’m sure someone would bring up statistics on sex crime if I didn’t and that of course matters, but idk. Still seems wild to me that so many women just want men they don’t even know to off themselves out of sheer collective…

You’re really taking this to extremes. It’s as simple as ugly guys getting stonewalled when trying to start a conversation. No, most of us aren’t trying to get away with calling women “sugartits”. We are just tired of women assuming the worst of us before we’d have had the chance to actually do anything wrong.

Real, dude. If an unattractive person is nice irl, they just assume you have ulterior motives

Yes, but if you’re repeatedly striking out with people who you’re otherwise compatible with and who think you’re awesome, you come to understand looks as being supreme. Especially when people who are noticeably not very nice, intelligent, or charismatic often don’t seem to have much trouble. Appearance is the single department where you receive little to no grace

Highest honor you’ll earn is often the classic “I wish I could date someone like you”. Which is fine. I don’t want to date someone who isn’t attracted to me, but it is what it is.

I don’t think most men are fuckboys, but they are statistically significant to have run afoul of probably most women. Enough so that kindness in the short term probably doesn’t count for a whole lot
/r/PurplePillDebate02/01/26 10:12 PM

That’s probably for the best, and really mature and pragmatic, but do you think most people do that? Do you think there aren’t hundreds/thousands of fuckboys who know they only need to hold the act together long enough to get what they want?

We’re talking about something that is universal and not necessarily gendered. In courtship, you try to sell someone the best version of yourself. The degree of dishonesty, as well as what somebody is dishonest about, often varies. It could be the level of passion one person has for the other person’s interests. It could be about your job or how much money you make. Or it could be being as nice as possible to someone you’re interested long enough to get them into bed. This is why women in particu…

I don’t think any sane person would argue that other things don’t contribute, but looks are the single biggest initial determinant. Looks don’t matter if everything else is catastrophic, but everything else doesn’t generally matter if you don’t have looks.

I’m confused. You admit that being physically attractive is a non-negotiable, but downplaying its significance broadly? I agree that it isn’t the most important thing in building a successful relationship, but it seems inarguable that it’s paramount to finding one at all.

The thing of this is that anyone can come across as nice for a night or a couple of nights if they’re just trying to impress in the short term. That’s why a lot of women end up feeling betrayed when they get into a relationship with such a guy only to discover that the guy actually makes a rather bad partner. Because they frontloaded their efforts then coasted by on looks. It takes time most women aren’t willing to invest on a guy who is kind but not necessarily attractive in order to determine …

Open/shut. Women themselves will tell you being nice is the bare minimum. You don’t need to be a model, but you have to clear the bar. And if you don’t, or frankly can’t, kindness and dependability might be great for earning you friendship and not much else. They’re attractive qualities, but they don’t necessarily make the guy who possesses them romantically attractive.

A friend of mine, I shit you not, used Tom Hiddleston as an example of her “unorthodox” taste in men. Yep. I guess this is where we’re at now.

We mutually consider ourselves to be good-if-not-best friends. Often, I’ll couch my laments in a joke, where it can be (and often is) safely ignored. I think this is how most men tend to vent, as it is probably the safest option that commits the fewest trespasses and sounds the fewest alarms. A spoonful of irony to help the existential dread go down, as it were. Sometimes, after sitting with my thoughts alone for months, I have a bit of a mental breakdown. They say they just don’t want to make t…

Well, I mean my dad is absent, but my mom doesn’t get it. And that isn’t the only cultural disconnect at play there. My mom is on the older side so there is a massive generational gap. I’m also first generation American coming from Latin America, so views on masculinity tend to lean very traditional and when it comes to mental health in particular are very unhelpful. My brother generally takes after her as well. Friends of either gender just kind of bail and I don’t hear from them for like a day…

Like being shamed and enduring negative consequences for opening up discouraging further attempts. Personally, I’m full to bursting with things that are eating me alive. I tell my very well-meaning SO and the conversation becomes about how she feels about my problems. We talk about it once or twice more in the span of months and they become “exhausting” to her. I tell my friends of over a decade about it and they flat out avoid me. All of our interactions must be very superficial by design. It r…

Male loneliness epidemic gets the attention it does because men are socialized to be self-reliant and stoic to the point of self-isolation. Even if we have friends and a partner, we can’t fully confide in them without that threatening those relationships or making things weird. So yes, everyone experiences loneliness, much like everyone experiences body shaming. However, much like loneliness for men, body shaming is largely placed under a gendered lens as a women’s issue because many women are c…

I addressed your point quite clearly. I don’t agree that most men dislike women in general. However, we aren’t really discussing that. We’re talking about basic arousal, and yeah, in that regard, men are at least attracted to women

There are lots of options to simulate sex. Even if you’d make the claim that men generally don’t like women as people (which for the record, I still absolutely don’t agree with, but that isn’t really the parallel being drawn either way) they’re still overwhelmingly physically attracted to most of them. If it was just about getting one’s dick wet, there are cheaper, easier options than a relationship or a casual hookup

Anyone who has been around that guy knows it when they see him. The way a roomful of women shift to him like flowers in the Sun. There’s definitely a marked difference from what most of us experience. For most of us, it doesn’t seem to make much of a difference if we live or die lol. However, I think what incels get wrong is the tall list of demands it takes to meet this criteria. I’ve seen this with guys that are fit, scrawny, or perhaps even a little doughy. Poor or moderately wealthy. Grungy …

It doesn’t matter how you want to put it. In essence, it’s basically the same. The average man isn’t desirable to the average woman. Few men are the exception.

Most of us know pretty early on if we’re the type of guy who is spoiled for choice. That doesn’t mean we can’t be happy with our partners, but a lot of us know we aren’t “dream girl” material. There’s a saying: “women marry who they want. Men marry who they can.”

“Any hole will do”🚫 “I am willing to accept women who don’t check every box on my list, because even if I meet that person, chances are pretty good that she has more (and better) options than me.”✅ So weird! We’re told to drop our standards because we “all want supermodels”, and once we do, it is somehow dehumanizing to women 🤷‍♂️

The annoying thing is that despite kindness not being the bar anymore, everyone still treats men struggling with relationships like they have some catastrophic character flaw and/or are only ever shooting way out of their league. You’re right. Women can afford to have a bigger checklist than “nice” and “steady income”. But also, that means that the proverbial bar is very much not in hell and guys failing to meet it are not necessarily the devil incarnate. Some of us are just unfortunate-looking,…

Yeah, I feel like we’re all basically agreed at this point, but it’s still taboo for men to bring this up even though women do this too. What matters is that the point isn’t being raised against women

This is also why therapy is generally less effective for men than for women. From patient to care provider, therapy is a very gynocentric field. This means the data being abstracted from patients as well as the lived experiences and biases of the therapists doing the abstracting is going to lead to results with blindspots when it comes to men.

The chopped man epidemic girl, and everyone who rushed to her defense. I’ve seen a lot of women make both claims in a single post. That women look better on average because they put in more effort, and if men put in more effort, the average man to would be as appealing to the average woman as the average woman is to the average man.

I mostly agree with you, but I disagree with you on two fronts. I think almost everything in the second bar is included in the first bar. The things that are harder to achieve are disguised in euphemisms. Fit and styled are part of “ takes care of themselves”. Hilarious, fun social circle, adventurous and hobbies are “well-rounded”. Dreams, passions, earning potential are “has his life together” and “motivated”. Honestly, some of these probably aren’t that hard to achieve, like hobbies, aspirati…

sigh Without watching the video, I think men with autism deserve a certain degree of grace when it comes to misreading signals, but not when it comes to pushing against understandable boundaries. I think we’re at a point where failing to interpret a woman’s unspoken disinterest is construed as harassment. Some of the advice/criticism given to incels is that they need to put themselves out there. I feel like I receive signals of disinterest from most women I speak to. Idk if that is a trauma resp…

It amazes me how women can make the same complaint on either side of the fence and be seen as the victim. If a man gripes about receiving no attention from the opposite sex, he’d be derided as an incel, yet a woman can do the same with the same petulant attitude and sense of entitlement and be viewed sympathetically. Suddenly, it’s “men need to man up and approach women more”. ??? Make it make sense.

I think women want men to intuit whether or not you will be into us before we even make an approach. If we’re not, you want us to internally self-deprecate and count ourselves out. You want us to do the work of rejecting ourselves for not being up to your standards without even knowing what those standards are. Failing that, you say aloud the things you wanted us to say to ourselves before we said anything to you. You basically want us to spare you discomfort by internalizing discomfort of our o…

I think I’m a society, we all should have some responsibility for each other…”should” being the operative word lol. I don’t think that ends up being the case. Men are expected to advocate, to protect, to call out sexism, to intervene irl for the damsels in distress in public and behind closed doors during locker room talks. And you know, all well and good. I do think men have a responsibility to women. However, women have no such observable responsibility to men in practice. Women are certainly …

I’ve had plenty of great discussions with perfectly pleasant and empathetic feminists. Most seem to agree that the same structure that expects women to be meek, dainty, and proper is the same one that pressures men into a life of stoicism and solitude. But you know, obviously, there are plenty of traumatized (or, yes, perhaps even just embittered) members that become flat out bigots. Sucks, but we certainly have our fair share of that.

I think the problem is progress isn’t a zero sum game. We’re all mostly on the same side. I don’t think it aids anyone (them nor us) to be vindictive. I know there is no shortage of antagonistic feminists online, but as they say, two wrongs don’t make a right. We should prioritize our own mental health, but that doesn’t need to mean tearing anyone else down.

Right, in a communal way, I agree. In a “women are meek helpless incomplete creatures who need men to build furniture, open jars, and rationalize for them”, I disagree. We shouldn’t think of their survival as being dependent on us.

I think it is good for women not to need men other than to reproduce. Indeed, I should hope women who like men find some that meaningfully improve their lives anyway, but two adults should be functionally independent of each other
