They are just jealous of anything that pulls attention off of them. because its a threat to her hooking the man, i suspect they try to make a man part with his hobbies to see how far they will let them control. They chip away at his life with constant nagging and pity disputes about trivial everyday things. This serves to break the will of man over time.
