If getting cut requires it at birth, why is circumcision as treatment for phimosis a preformed surgery on adults (even where more conservative treatments are available)? Cut infants display more sensitivity to pain than intact infants for at least 6 months after the amputation - indicating that the pain of the procedure encodes long lasting neurological changes in the individual. And no, there has never been a quality scientific study run that proves we can eliminate the pain of this amputation for infants.
