Sure, I can see why people see it that way. It's because they're utterly blind to hardships men have always had to endure due to a combination of stupidity and apathy. Let's look at the US. All presidents have been male. Most senators. Most business owners. Also virtually all combat deaths (and conscription was around for every major war). The vast majority of workplace deaths and prisoners. Most homeless. A significant portion of victims of violence in general. You throw a rock into a crowd of …

Cool leading question. Since we both already know the answer and how the lack of context will be used to draw an incomplete picture, let's skip that exchange and get to the real meat of why you're asking: Are we suddenly going back on the "us vs harmful gender roles" thing and blaming it on men?
/r/MensRights15/10/17 11:24 PM

us vs harmful societal behaviours Yeah this is a great sound bite, but once you fill in the missing details in a Feminist context, you find that it actually means "us vs them," it just took a more roundabout way to get there. If you look at the terminology used to describe the ways sexism can manifest itself, and how Feminism frames power in society, you'll find a trend that men are responsible for sexism, and women are not. The problem ends up being men, again, no matter who it's done to and by…

Ok, let's say I take your stupid poster as evidence that I'm 10 years off and that in the 70s, women were just chattel being beaten and traded for sex, something we didn't get around to solving until the 80s. 40 years then. Point is, it has been multiple generations where women have not had it worse, men have, but the institutional power is focused entirely on solving women's "issues" while virtually every single person who dies on the job is a man, most people who commit suicide are men, and so…

If NOW isn't important enough to represent feminism, then there is nothing you would be happy with, sans some Roman-esque Tutelary Deity of Feminism coming down from heaven and informing us all what true feminism is.

That's what the definition of a patriarchy is. I'm talking about The Patriarchy, the feminist-created Patriarchy Theory, not a patriarchy in the general sense.
/r/MensRights08/04/17 08:45 PM

You know, she may understand that much...but she doesn't actually get it. Let's just break this down. The simplest definition of The Patriarchy is a societal system which benefits men at the expense of women. Patriarchal norms create the gender roles which have always, and continue to improve men's standing in society while devaluing women. That is the core of Patriarchy Theory. She says that the worst, most dangerous and underpaid jobs are done by men. She says that's the fault of The Patriarch…

Get back to me when feminism isn't blocking every single attempt the MRM takes at even getting society's attention, let alone solving men's issues. Then we'll talk about being nice. Well, we won't, because you've ignored all the important points to tone police, but you get the idea.
/r/MensRights24/03/17 11:13 AM
2

The MRM has spent fucking decades trying to make feminism stop being shit, and you know what? It's never worked. Feminism cannot be reasoned with. I'm saying that feminism, right now, is the primary obstacle the MRM faces in getting even the slightest bit of attention to men's issues. When somebody says "oh well yannow, they're bad feminists, I'm a good feminist" or some other nonsense, it doesn't matter, because it doesn't change what feminists have done and continue to do, completely unopposed…

Yannow, there's nothing I hate more than your type. It seems there's not a day that doesn't go by that a feminist comes into /r/mensrights to talk about how feminism is really just so great and that we shouldn't go after it. Feminists are the ones who defend society ignoring men's issues. You've come to a place about men's issues, and you're proselytizing about how feminism isn't the problem when feminists are the singular power in control of the discussion of gender in western society. No matte…

No, I'm sorry but you're wrong. I would love for that to be the case, but one of the typical feminist strategies to derail and eventually bury any discussion regarding men's problems in society, or society's warped views of gender issues is: Ok, but can we at least agree that women still, on average, have it worse in our society? With the implication being that, due to having it worse, the existence of female advocacy is justified. Then, it follows that the existence of feminism is justified, be…

You must have missed all the feminist groups shutting down men's advocacy for the better part of three decades. Or the feminists pushing anti-male legislation. Or the very core theory of feminism which relies on men essentially being evil. Feminism isn't a synonym for women's rights, nor is it a synonym for egalitarianism. This sub is not the antithesis to women's rights, and if you had educated yourself better you wouldn't needed to whinge at us over your misunderstandings.

No. If you treat the genders as a class, and impose responsibility across generations to that class, then it only makes sense to also attribute that class's achievements to everyone in it. It's running off the same logic that makes "privilege" work, but using the positives of the "male class" instead of the negatives.

Your saying feminists need to go out and change our views with actions whilst saying we should call out those that do as being a part of the problem. Unsurprisingly, you have the reading comprehension of a shovel. Let me try this again. If feminists who claim that "feminism is good for men and women" want non-feminists to view feminism the same way they do, they need to make that a reality. So, let's look at reality as it is now. I call her out for standing under that banner and I'm making an enemy of an ally. Here's where you're wrong. She's not. If you stand under the feminism banner, then protect feminism when feminism is the vehicle by which men are being harmed in western society, you're not an ally, you're an obstacle. You are indirectly responsible for feminism's actions by making it impossible to criticize feminism. No amount of lip service about "real feminism cares about men" will change that, because reality d…

The definition of feminism as defined by feminists? No, but it doesn't actually match up outside of feminist circles. Now, if feminists were marching in the street in recognition of the vast majority of homeless people being men, or recognition of high suicide rates for men, or recognition of any male victims of domestic violence or sexual violence, it might be a legitimate definition. If established feminist groups were pushing for laws and procedures that might actually help men in places wher…

You don't really get gamers then. Pretty much always, your gender is completely irrelevant to the game that you're playing. Doesn't matter if it's modern competitive multiplayer or some "classic" that only really had singleplayer. You act like it's just women, but it's not. What matters to other gamers is skill, experience, and knowledge. I did, actually. Maybe you didn't notice, but there was a lot more going on than "we say tits or GTFO to remove female social advantages", namely harassing people. You haven't actually even tried to justify that, you've just sort of ignored it. If we're going to support or defend /b/ acting like twats, we might as well act like twats as well. I did basically spell that out in my first paragraph and my last sentence. They should be given the same sentence the "rapist" would have gotten if he'd gone to prison. I agree - they should spend the next 5 to 80 years in a men's prison. Look, I'll walk everyone through the chain of logic here. X knowingly and maliciously accuses Y of a rape that did not happen. Vaccines don't take something away, but they do protect against deadly diseases. On a reasonable scale, that is. There are a couple of iffy studies correlating fewer HIV infections in circumcised males, but they might as well say the stage of the moon under which you were born was a contributor. Other than that, they mostly protect against bad hygiene and not knowing how to avoid injuring yourself. In my experience, your first example doesn't actually exist in real life. I've never met him or ran into him, only heard of the other two referred to as him. To add to this, most start out as the third point and end up as the second. There are exceptions of course, that's just what I've seen.

This campaign also aims to target 18-25 year-old women about the dangers of rape by intoxication. Young women can take precautions to help avoid an attack of this nature in the first place. For instance, women should drink responsibly and avoid binge drinking at all times. They should have an emergency "escape" plan to ensure they can get home. And, young women can look out for one another to ensure they get home safely after a night out. It's not "victim blaming" and "perpetuating rape culture"…

Indeed. I agree that it needs to be more specific about the assault itself, I was just shortening it to get it out of the way. Though I question just how many people don't consider such things rape, I don't have any opposition to pointing it out, as long as it's done in a way that doesn't spin such things as inherently male or in any other discriminatory way.

No less valid than considering the campaign successful is what I was trying to point out. If Vancouver's statistics are enough to indicate success but Edmonton's statistics don't indicate otherwise, than it seems that there are different standards of evidence for determining the effectiveness of this campaign, depending on if the evidence shows success or not. It's not as if a difference of two years is enough to determine long-term trends before the campaign, considering the short length of tim…

The article does not mention what the trends were before the campaign in Edmonton. But we know that ever since the program was introduced there, there have been more reported cases. After all, it only took one year, according to this (which is linked by that blog post), it only took a year to see this significant decrease in reported sexual assaults, and it only goes ba…

Feminism may not have caused those issues (depending on which issues we're talking about), but they're either completely apathetic towards them or actively fight against us trying to fix them. Granted, it might simply get downvoted and ignored because concern trolling is an increasingly large problem lately, but it's a more legitimate effort at least. Also, I do partially agree …

And even if it were upvoted, it's not relevant anyways. That post does not say "women caused everything from the holocaust to my car not starting today" or whatever nonsense. Anything negative about any women != misogyny. It's not like we haven't all seen questionable statements from an extreme minority being used to confirm that the MRM is full of women-hating assholes.

Great. Don't tell us that. To be blunt, I doubt many here care what your personal beliefs are, and a few individuals will not change our view of a much larger group. You want us to view feminism better, go support us in feminist spaces. Encourage like-minded individuals to do the same. When we can't fill r/MR every day with misandric shit from feminists or people claiming to be feminists or whatever spin you want to put on it, then those of us that dislike feminism might change our minds.

Some context. Maybe I missed it, but it doesn't actually say she was a feminist anywhere in this article, so this "hurr durr MRAs" thing was entirely unfounded. Not to mention, they make it sound like MRAs haven't been trying to get female-on-male rape acknowledged as a reality (assuming that's even what it was, the wording is vague). This is not a case of the brave victimized feminist standing up for the poor patriarchy-oppressed men or whatever the new feminist narrative is, it's one victim ac…

Geeze, apologists sure flocked to this post. Anyways, looks like the predictions were right. I've been hearing that feminist groups are trying to co-opt the things the MRM stands for and what it has accomplished, and looky here. Funny thing is, just a couple months ago I remember some male feminist posts about how these issues don't actually exist. Ah well. They can try and take credit and pretend to stand up for men, but history does not back up such claims.

For many people, the concept of conscription is indefensible for reasons they would consider to be self-evident. There's not much good to be said about putting people to death against their will. I would sooner take up arms to defend one's right to choose than to defend, even in words, forcing one into combat. Though I'd rather not do it at all, since I believe violence should be avoided whenever possible. I am not ashamed of this and not too caring about whether or not somebody thinks I should …

The MRM supports equality under the law, and nothing else from the state. FTFY. MRAs don't all fall into the same political categories, merely have a few similar ideas involving equality, and anything else about them is irrelevant in the context of gender equality until it comes to implementing it. Even then, talking in such absolutes and making these kinds of presumptions is shaky business.

I'm not really seeing it. Seems to me to be a bit of a stretch of what is already shaky wording. Guess such a thing is bound to have multiple interpretations.

I can't really blame Google for the way they run Youtube video takedowns. It's not even close to desirable, but it wouldn't take much for an army of lawyers to come down on them, unfortunately. The layout, however, is inexcusable.

Impacted wisdom teeth are pulled because they are dangerous, and because the lack of wisdom teeth will not prevent you from eating, talking, breathing, or any such thing. In fact, in some cases, having those teeth can prevent normal functions. It depends on the circumstance. No reason to have them pulled if they don't cause any issues. If somebody's foreskin was infected to the point where it couldn't recover, of course circumcision would be the route to take, just like amputation. As for your b…

gender traitor Is this really a thing? Because one term I've heard over and over by racists, mostly neo-nazis, is "race traitor".

If white males had all this power, why would it be necessary to discuss these issues? Surely if one had so much power, they could instead just force whoever to be silent, or hell, maybe even force them to agree. Or hell, he could have just stopped the racist or sexist comments in the first place. That is, unless that grand universal power doesn't belong to every single white male on this planet simply because they're white males. gasp

As valid as the points he makes are, he also slapped a 4-year old hard enough to make her bleed, and explains in his last words how to make a Molotov so we can "burn out" oppressors. I suppose people can be pushed pretty far, but we could find better examples of the broken system at work than this, since this kind of information can easily be used against us. Hell, even I probably wouldn't have been comfortable around this guy.

When did liberalism become feminism? Liberalism (from the Latin liberalis) is a broad political ideology or worldview founded on the ideas of liberty and equality. From Wikipedia I'd say we all agree that today, feminism and equality don't always go hand-in-hand. Not that it really matters. There are enough problems here even without political labels. It'll only hinder MRAs in the long run if they're divided by nonsense political lines.

You never once said that a person shouldn't be a coward and allow others to walk all over them. Actually, yes I did, omitting "coward" because I, more often than not, understand how people actually think. Or don't, in some cases. Yup, calling someone out for being a coward is "being a jackass". More or less, it is. Judging somebody instead of helping them is being a jackass. You'd be impressed by the number of people who would agree with that statement. I never ignored anything you said. Apparen…

A) So, you admit that I never said it. In fact, I never addressed OP directly. So then, your argument is that I didn't parrot what you said exactly? B) If what I did was an "attack", what did you do towards OP, and pretty much everyone else in the thread? Either way, I only spoke to you, nobody else, and not because I think people shouldn't stand up for themselves, but rather that being a jackass about it is not the way to go about getting OP or anyone else to accept any of your points. If you a…

Ok, I tried to be nice. Are you retarded or just trolling? Answer me this, and answer honestly. I expect a quotation. Did I say that it's ok to let people treat you like shit? If you can quote where I explicitly said it's ok to treat people like shit, then you're right. If you try to point out how something I said somehow means I was implying it, you're retarded, and if you refuse, you're a troll.

Did I say that it's ok to let people treat you like shit? No, I did not. I tried to explain how your approach is, at best, doing nothing but getting people to really dislike you. I'm going to let you in on a little secret: The more you belittle somebody, the less likely they are to change something you say is "bad". They're more likely to become a bitter and anti-social. However, you clearly don't care about any of that. You didn't come here to help him, either by helping him changing his ways o…

Instead of insulting you (difficult as it is), I'd like to point out that you will never change anything with your attitude. You come off as a self-righteous, arrogant ass. You haven't really offered any new ideas or solutions, you've just belittled somebody and told them how they should be. Really, all you've effectively accomplished is getting people to despise you, myself included. You might also have made OP feel worse, which again, doesn't help at all. He's not going to listen to any "advic…

They have about the same risk as circumcision, to my knowledge. Go figure. The STD prevention is irrelevant. There are far more effective ways to prevent STDs, and infants and young children are not going to be having the sex necessary to contract any STDs. Already made that point. Let me clarify the "group effectiveness" of vaccines. I was referring to society as a whole. For instance, if fewer people can actually catch Polio, there will be less Polio being spread, reducing the number of people…

The difference between vaccinating against Measles and "vaccinating" against phimosis is that washing your hands is not going to prevent Measles. We vaccinate against certain diseases for all sorts of reasons, including lack of effective treatments/cures, high risk of permanent damage, and being highly contagious. Vaccines are also more effective if more people in the population have had them, which is irrelevant for about half your list. Besides, vaccines don't require that you remove part of t…

It's not a medical decision. A medical decision is what treatment you would get for your child if they had an infection of some sort. What is circumcision treating? Foreskin? At best, it's a cosmetic procedure right alongside breast augmentation, with the added bonus of (currently) permanent damage. At worst, it's casual amputation. You wouldn't cut off your child's left index finger just so he would be right handed, would you? There really isn't much of a difference here. Also, screw respect. B…
