You're right: they won't. Keep I'm mind however, that sweatshops were merely the example I chose to highlight to gap between labor share and profit. While sweatshops don't exist here in America, other forms of employment which operate on the same principle do exist. My larger point is that when you take a broad look at our economy, you see that in general, labor share has decreased while profit has increased dramatically. Can't you see how this is inherently unethical? If you can't, you should a…

Your article is from 1997. How do you know it has maintained any relevancy? Towards the end of the article the economists explain the problem with sweatshops is exactly what I'm talking about: labor isn't valued. I'm not against manual labor, so when I say "sweatshops," I'm specifically referring to the devaluation of labor that comes with it. It's not as though countries haven't industrialised before. An important step in that process was the creation of labor unions which demanded fair wages. …

I never advocated for artificially increasing the value of labor, only for valuing labor where it should have been all along. In fact, labor has artificially dropped in value, as you would know if you had bothered to read the graphs I provided. I have to concede the "fuckface" argument though. Your ad hominem game is strong; it really shows the intellectual depth of this subreddit. My offer for a plane ticket to Malaysia still stands. I would love to hear a first-hand account of how working at a…

Cheap iPhones for me me. Fuck poor people I'm the sociopath? Right. I can tell you haven't researched your position well. The article you linked compares working in a sweatshop to even worse forms of labor, yet still recognized how shitty sweatshops are in general. If sweatshops are so great, PM me and I'll buy you a plane ticket so you can go work in one. You won't of course, because you know as well as I do that sweatshops won't value your labor as much as your job here in America. Whether you…

I'm sorry, I was under the impression that I wasn't speaking with a sociopath. Goodbye. I hope you live a happy life, though I highly doubt you will.

If the choice is between abject poverty and shit wages, there is no choice. As I explained, overall profit has risen exponentially, yet labor share has fallen. This has serious consequences, and it doesn't take a genius to see it. Luckily, our labor laws are much better than in some countries (e.g. Malaysia, India, etc.), but we definitely don't want to reach that point, and should work in the opposite direction. You don't see GAP opening stores in Bangladesh, and it's for a reason. When they pa…

Because I care that labor is being exploited, that makes me a communist? Great critical thinking skills, pal.

Because the value of labor isn't measured by skill, but rather is determined by the consumer. So when the value of a product created by a worker is greater than his or her pay, then the wage they are receiving is exploitation by definition. In other words: theft. This exploitation can occur at any pay grade, but it is most commonly seen at the minimum wage level. Labor share has decreased, while overall profit has increased.

If a man and a woman are being exploited for their labor equally, then there's no wage gap; no problem! Checkmate, leftists! /s

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
