The problem is/was that if you had a daughter, when you arranged a marriage, you have to give dowry (do not know if this is phrased correctly, English is not my first language), which is/was really expensive. While that should in no way justify killing a foetus, I still can see where they are coming from.

This one is so true. If a guy were to even kiss a guy, he "automatically" has to be gay or bi, if a woman does it she´s either "being silly" or just curious. Edit: Of course not just this one, but I know a lot of straight guys who in a way had to deal with this.
