To be fair, you are not wrong, although I am dubious about men bein taught that power and control are a male attribute. Naturally being taught to be in power and control may cause stress, however surely the cause of the violence would be being taught that violence is right. I would argue that the article isn't trying to make the connection between the two. But it is really too short to make anything of it.

Also, they argue that violence can be caused by frustration and stress, and then fail to discover where that problems stems from. Obviously one would need citations, but it could easily be argued that the stress and frustration comes from an unfair burden in society put on men. But they clearly wish the blame to be on men.

I actually think it is the other way round. People think it sounds better if it sounds as though you are doing them a favour (i.e. help them avoid being shunned by women), when in actual fact it is done because of tradition. It is just what people do, and is justified after the fact.

Does a child consent to go to school? Making a child work for around 5 hours a day, and punishing them if they don't, without consent doesn't sound good. It is all a matter of perspective. Discussing consent with regards children only works if you first convince others that circumcision is bad in the first place, which many disagree with. In this situation, lack of consent isn't actually the issue. Children can't consent to much.

Considering the vast growth of UKIP, and the nature of Conservative voters, I would argue that a lot of people will not think the opposite. As Godfrey Blum noted, when he made the 'slut' comments and 'bongo-bongo land' comments, he had far more emails supporting him than denouncing him. Also, they are not extreme right wing. Yeah, they can be a bit out there, but they are fairly tame.

Not so sure it has improved its member states (Greece, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, Italy, athough this may be as a result of the Eurozone, rather than the EU). With regards to GCSE, always be aware that boys continue to outperform girls in the sciences, maths, etc. where there are better chances for later life. Be careful about taking statistics at face value. Lets not do to exam results what women did to the wage gap. Of course, girls are beginning to catch up to boys in the sciences, but it is still an important caveat to note. Thanks, although this is 2012, but it does prove a point that the figures are not as simple as when one first looks at them. As feminists often fail to look in depth at the results, we must lead the way and actually try and better understand them. Girls may have done better than boys this year, but if the trends are anything like last year, then girls have taken subjects with little further prospects.

It was a weak debate because it was a weak premise for debate. The question was effectively, can people complain if they are offended by a joke, and naturally both agreed. Their disagreements instead related to more nuanced aspects, such as what would be the effects of complaining or not complaining, which lacks any real substance as it doesn't expand into the world of legislation (i.e. no one is suggesting passing laws relating to it, it is instead about personal and private responses).
