Treating animals poorly is a clear sign of a LVM. But treating animals well is not a clear sign of a HVM. Respect for life is necessary, but not sufficient.

It’s similar for me. I had to distance myself completely for a long time. Now, I spend very limited time with her, like 1-3 days at absolute most, and I carve out time to “recover” afterwards because I noticed things just go wrong for a while after I see her unless I take a minute - it’s like being around her just brings up subconscious thoughts and insecurities, a fog of abuse.

Hey are you me?!?! My first few relationships were with pretty awful men and then one day it hit me I had been OK with it because my mom set the bar so low, and honestly being with those men was better for me than being with my mom.. Once I realized it I took a lot of steps to make it better for myself, including a very long break from dating and lots and lots of therapy. But still, to this day, I have to always ask myself: is X something you really think is OK (wrt my husband, my friends, my jo…

This reminds me of that post from TikTok made by the woman who offered to pay “for the next date” because her self esteem was too low to allow her to accept being paid for…and then he name-dropped some golfing place and she took the bait… and it ended up costing 4-5x what his dinner for her had cost.

My dad, grandparents, and male family members were generally all great. We had a grand uncle (one of my mom’s dad’s 11 siblings) who treated his wife/ex wife like shit (divorced her as soon as she was diagnosed with a rare immune disorder, after she stood by his side through two heart surgeries), and the whole family rallied around supporting his wife/ex to help her get back on her feet and sort of ostracized him after he showed no remorse about his actions. Turkish families can be ruthless abou…

Tell her exactly once, in as calm and unemotional a way as possible, right after the next time she’s done this, how her statements make you feel and their consequence: I’d like to tell you something about the statement you just made. I’ve noticed a pattern of behavior where you make negging or comparing statements about my life and yours almost every time we talk. It makes me feel confused and hurt. When it happens, I imagine that you’re not secure enough in yourself to be a real friend to me, a…

Oh same here. Actually ages 9-14 when I was chubby and pimply and wore braces were the peak years for me, even though I grew up to be quite attractive (modeling on the side, etc.). The crazy thing is think I had repressed all of the wild shit I went through until I read a comment a few months back with a woman saying the same thing. Lol I was just reading an AskReddit thread where the question was “what did you see that most made you hate humanity” or similar and one answer was from a guy who used to pose as a 13 y/o girl in chat rooms with his other friends when they were all 13 y/o boys. And he said so many men tried to get sex, tried to say they would leave their wife/kids to run away with the girl, sent horrible unsolicited pics etc. that he never looked at men the same way again and that it’s stuck with him now into hi…

Ok, so hear me out. By definition, women willing to wait / churn through LVM quickly to leave room to find a high-quality partnership are going to “strike out” a lot and be lonely a lot of the time. By. Definition. It took what felt like f o r e v e r for me to get the hang of vetting/leaving LVM early. As shitty as it sometimes felt to be the single one, the one with a bad relationship experience, etc. I finally realized the REASON I was single a lot and the REASON I was disappointed a lot was …

You just articulated something I’ve always felt about “cute” stories where the guy evidently relied 98% on the gal’s best (female) friend to plan a proposal, or something similar. It’s always kind of skeezed me out because it’s like, instead of getting to know her well enough to understand what she’d like for a special day these 9 year you’ve been dating, Todd, you made her best friend spend an awkward day with you dragging you through all the work you should have been able to do alone as her pa…

I think the analogy to short men with a complex is a good one. What was especially interesting is in my experience, early on I tried to rationalize it - “maybe he’s worried I won’t have time for our family/kids”; “maybe he’s worried I’ll behave in stuck-up ways” — but you know what? I’m holding down my high-commitment jobs, am active in my community, have a puppy and a kitten, a husband, and am working on a screenplay while we start planning for children…. And if anything I’m always told I’m a b…

Double Ivy League doctorate graduate with a very high earning job here. I had the same experience as you, lots of top of funnel bad experiences, which felt like failure at first, but later on I realized it was like auto-vetting - so it saved me a lot of time avoiding men who have some issue with it. Having an issue with a highly educated woman is never a good sign.

A good vetting strategy for me (unintentional - from before I met FDS) has been being forthcoming about how I love to travel solo. I’ve backpacked all across Europe, been to several national parks in the US, several interesting cities in the US, and even drove across the country staying in different states for months at a time in my deferral gap year before matriculating to the grad school I was admitted to. It was amazing and I learned so much. I also get lonely and crave close friendships and …

1000000000%. One addition I’d make to this is he doesn’t have to be consciously following red pill / dread tactics to be basically doing the same stuff on a less extreme level that triggers your anxiety, simply because he’s a LVM who’s absorbed enough signals from pop culture to low key neg you because deep down he has that mentality that he needs to f&$@ with you to keep you on your toes. A classic example is that a LOT more people try to “play hard to get” or “make you jealous” than people who…

I got banned from a sub for answering an OP’s question about whether p*rn use in a relationship can be harmful and how. The reason was, no anti-p@rn sentiments allowed on the sub. YO, same thing happened when I started perusing investment advisor sites for my hefty tech RSU grant. I legit asked my husband if he was feeling OK as I started getting divorce ads e v e r y w h e r e for a couple weeks right after I started looking into this stuff. I don’t know if it’s the connection to estate planning generally or the “woman comes into money == time to escape her awful man” connection but hilarious either way.

I agree with what you’ve written in the body of your post, with one caveat. Women actually do secrete more oxytocin during PIV penetrative sex than men do and than women do with other forms of sexual stimulation, and this hormone is highly associated with bonding in mammals. I believe this is the sole and only physical reason women tolerate PIV sex that doesn’t result in an orgasm for them (as most PIV sex doesn’t). There are other reasons too but those are societal. In any event, PIV does creat…

I take your point but he could always do the same thing with saying the friend “will deny it” or “will want to talk about it.” That’s agnostic of whether it’s in writing or not. Plus, writing is more concrete: nothing he says will change what is written, but he could more easily manipulate her into thinking the friend said things a different way.

Yeah I like that. Reminding her that abuse is OUT THERE, but not drawing that conclusion for her in her relationship (I’ve had friends get defensive when I’ve done that - even though they eventually saw what they were living was abuse)

Don’t abandon her - do not block or delete her number and be available for her when she reaches out to you. But, don’t try to save her either. How to strike the right balance— Tell her once - exactly once - and in as clear and unemotional a way as possible, do it in writing if you have to: I am so sorry about this turn of events. you are right that if what X said happened had happened, it would be an awful thing and you’d have every right to be mad at me and question me as a friend. however, it …

I think what did it for me was a friend of mine had a boyfriend who was super into social media. He wasn’t the type to like other women’s photos all the time or anything, it’s just that he insisted on so many photos and “checking in” everywhere we went together and spent sooo muchhh time on his phone. I think it turned me off so badly to him as a person that it became a criteria for me for friends/relationships to expect moderation in social media use. It’s like knowing him crystallized somethin…

Yeah see… my surprise came from this: most times there’s discussion of something depraved that’s sexual on Reddit, there are lots of voices in support of the thing by the people who practice it. So I was sort of expecting some people to be saying they had a good experience, even if in their comments you could tell at best their experience was mixed. What stunned me is not even a single comment said it was a good situation. Sort of shows how the people who are impacted but not in charge will be m…

Only ok in 2 situations: 1) they have kids with the ex partner, and they are appropriate wrt romantic boundaries 2) they dated a long time ago, have a reason to still be friends (like a shared friend group), and don’t stay in too close contact via text or social media (like frequent texting or liking all of each other’s photos)* *I use social media very infrequently and actually have never been romantically attracted to a man that uses it more than I do. Not only that — this asshat literally dropped hints for her to take him to the golfing thing “he hadn’t been to in a while…that can get kind of pricey.” After she refused to let him pay - everything after that was him milking the situation for as much as he could get out of it.

I feel sad watching this, another well-intentioned and kind female getting absolutely destroyed by a guy literally only because she is kind and well-intentioned, and he is a low value male, and she doesn’t understand how these types of men work. A HVM wouldn’t have let her pay, period, but honestly would probably have been put off by her. Her pickmeishaism is just oozing out of her — and she felt LUCKY she didn’t have to “worry about whether a second date was happening”!?!?! Girl YOU are the pri…

So, when I read this article, it literally changed my life. I grew up with a pickme mom (as an aside — not intentionally - she never had to be a pickme when we lived in my home country and while my dad was still alive, but she dealt with fitting into American culture by donning the pickme veil. So many of us do for that reason - it can feel like there’s no other option!). Reading this article was my awakening. I wish Polly had been my mom since we moved to the US. She articulated everything I fe…

Yes, and if you want to be sure, here is a great pro tip for vetting all men that I think has been mentioned on this sub before: Accidentally “accuse” the man of something you’re 100% sure he didn’t do at some point in the relationship — you can even do this now! (eg, “hey babe, I left a pair of new sneakers right here yesterday after I got them in the mail. Did you happen to take them?”) See how not angry he gets. This is the control question, and you can compare reactions to other things to se…

Newbie comment here: A pro tip I have is to practice self-forgiveness for allowing LV friends into your life before you knew better. So yes: extricate, gray rock, ignore, block/delete, do whatever you have to do to level up your social circle, which might include purging a lot of bad friends. But don’t forget to forgive yourself for having these friends in the first place - otherwise you might end up letting the process of shedding these friends cause you more misery than you deserve. Commenting…

Newbie comment here. I agree. If anything, women are emotionally repressed by society. In reference to the Gabby Petito case, tell me which gender was repressing their emotions 99% of the time. The male: laughing, smirking, fearfully questioning whether his female partner mentioned all the abuse she faced. The female: blaming herSELF, calling herSELF the crazy one, clinicalizing her OWN feelings. Society forces women to repress their emotions to the point that they often feel the need to gasligh…
