I’m fighting for my life with this hangover

I’m so lucky the kids of my parent’s friends all ended up burning out during college and amounted to nothing cause in comparison my mediocre adult job looks stellar. At least I’m not addicted drugs, working part time retail, and own my car.

I think I could, in a perfect world, benefit a lot from some version of therapy. However, I don’t trust therapists and think for ever good one there’s a dozen bad ones. They aren’t doctors, psychology as a field is filled with junk and has tons of academic integrity issues, and most therapists will just provide with what you want to hear.

I’ll never understand where the political push back to immigration really comes from. People mostly vote on things that directly impact them like inflation, gas prices, taxes, social security etc. Idk how a dude in say West Virginia gets so animated about immigration when he will likely never be even slightly impacted by them.
/r/PurplePillDebate19/01/24 03:11 PM

I guess I explained it poorly. Being annoyed isn’t the issue, I can be annoyed that my prof didn’t give me an A even when I didn’t deserve it. It’s more the attitude of “ugh why are they doing this”, then spreading that online to people implying these men are in the wrong. Also it’s just a thing on here for women to say “women don’t mind being approached, but it should be somewhere appropriate”. Clearly, some women will take offense to being approached at all
/r/PurplePillDebate19/01/24 05:13 AM

This is the kind of video that makes me angry: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZT8pRvPQu/ Woman goes to a public bar alone, sits with a drink, is annoyed if someone try’s to talk to her? She’s in a bar where people go to be tipsy and meet people, if you want to read, go drink in your apartment
/r/PurplePillDebate19/01/24 04:34 AM

Weight lifting to be healthy is dumb. The amount you need to achieve maximum health benefits is like maybe an hour a week of basic shit. Cardio is what actually makes you healthier and live longer.

Is it weird to ask someone if they’re doing anything fun if they tell you they’re taking a week off? Manager told me he was taking a week off in two weeks, and I said “sweet anything fun planned” and he said no it was surgery. Felt like an idiot
/r/PurplePillDebate17/01/24 08:44 PM

Mmm I love January, my deductible resets and I get to go back to paying $260 for my monthly medication.
/r/PurplePillDebate17/01/24 05:34 PM

Do you email/msg back just to confirm you got something at work? I’ve heard this is just a gen z thing, but I don’t respond until I have the assignment or whatever done. Like if you ask me to do xyz, I don’t email back “thanks will do”. I was told in college that it’s just a waste of time and clutters people’s inbox’s. However, I’ve been told it frustrates some people and they think I might not have seen it.
/r/PurplePillDebate17/01/24 03:33 PM

I gotta delete Twitter. Seeing blatantly false info WITH a community note correcting it then reading the comments and having people totally believe the tweet is too much
/r/PurplePillDebate17/01/24 01:53 AM

When I was in high school, on Black Friday, my friends decided to get high and watch a movie. We used a cart and idk if it was the cart or something I ate, but I started to feel sick and disoriented during the previews so I tried to run to the bathroom. I ended up falling down in the lobby throwing up while on all 4s while some kid and mom watched me. Because I was high and sick when the manager came over I could barley speak so I just ran away.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/01/24 11:12 PM

Maybe it has something to do with being in college, but anytime I see a bio that’s 100% genuine they’re a weirdo. 90% of people in my college have either no bio or one that’s like 5 words, the other 10% seem really desperate and are always ugly.

Idk how to explain it, but getting takeout/DoorDash from real restaurants is ridiculously. Takeout is designated for like cheap Chinese, Mexican, burger joints not places where you’re getting legit food. Steak is not a to go food

Weight loss is over rated. I’ve lost weight, gained weight, been obese, had abs, etc. I am no happier than I was when I was bigger. People don’t treat me better, I don’t feel much different, I look very similar after losing 40lbs cause I mostly held it in my legs.

There was a convo I heard from some med students about how in med school you shouldn’t be pulling all nighters to study cause it makes you inefficient, but when you’re on call or doing rotations it can be inevitable. How tf does that make any sense? Residents and full time doctors are pulling all nighters then doing surgery and giving medical advice? Fuck that I don’t like driving after not sleeping.

I still don’t understand how so many guys pay for OF or really any virtual stuff in that genre. Some argue it’s more ethical, which I agree with, but I refuse to believe that makes up more than a tiny minority of men on the site like sub 5%. Guys who sub to big user are just throwing money into a void, definitely can’t talk to the creator and can find their stuff prob on Reddit. For smaller user from my understanding you can msg them and make some parasocial relationship, but idk paying for that…

When do you think mainstream actors will start to admit they’re on steroids? I feel like in the last few years, the public has become increasingly aware of steroids and what is realistic. This is making people like the rock or Chris Hemsworth look goofy for claiming natty status. You think they’ll ever admit it or just try to avoid the topic all together vs just claiming chicken and rice?

I don’t agree with the other commenter, and men can buy makeup but wearing makeup is not just “non-masculine” it actually would be a step backwards from “masculinity”. It’s not socially acceptable for men to wear it.

The one thing I hate about tipping discourse, is that ppl always blame the dude behind the counter. Like “ugh why is the guy at the fast food place asking for a tip”. I worked at a subway in hs, I had no power over what the credit screen said. I didn’t want a tip, when I worked alone I’d hit 0% for them, but the tips are pooled and split per shift. If I was with another worker I didn’t want to possible take anything from them.

You think there is actually anyone in America who can’t afford to feed themselves? Like as long as they aren’t on drugs.
/r/PurplePillDebate11/01/24 02:44 AM

I used to think my parents were just like me, loners who just like to stick to themselves. Now that all my siblings are out of the house, I realize they had no friends cause they were so busy with us. They got a better social life than I did in college.

Kinda skimmed through the study. This sounds like I’m moving the goal post, but as I stated before, I’m not saying that exercising in a vacuum wouldn’t improve your mental health. The animal study does show that in a vacuum with no societal pressure, it does. However, I’m more saying that a large perceived benefit from working out actually comes from socialization. This can’t be proven in animal studies. The study I’ve linked isn’t perfect but it shows the adolescent who perceived themselves as …

Literally in the study you cited Future psychological studies should be attentive to possible differences in psychological benefits between normal and depressed subjects and should not neglect the possible role of cognitive factors such as subjects' attitudes towards exercising or the feelings of accomplishment that may result from increased physical fitness.

I’d need to see that those endorphins cause long term happiness and that they are caused by the actual activity. Endorphins also get released when you do meth or beat a video game level. I work out, I’m not arguing it doesn’t help mental health.

You ever wonder if the notion that working out causes better mental health is just caused by societal pressures causing like a placebo effect? I don’t really know any guy who’s college educated who thinks $100k is elite. I made ~83k my first year going to a mid tier school and working in accounting in a MCOL. Tons of my friends who went to elite colleges made double me.

Started a new job about 6 months ago, and I’ve noticed that most men suck at teaching things. On the other hand, the women seem to intuitively understand where you’re at.

The way people describe networking vs what it actually is are so far apart. 99% of networking is not done intentionally, the idea that you’re going to hit someone up on LinkedIn or something and have that lead to anything is zero. When I was in college they kept telling us, reach out to alumni, get coffee, ask about their work. You know what that lead to, a bunch of awkward convos where it was clear I wanted a job, but they don’t have the power to do that or the balls to put their name on a kid …

US, what are you talking about? Filing jointly can put you into a lower tax bracket. If I make $100k then marry a woman and she lives at home, suddenly for some reason my taxes go down.
/r/PurplePillDebate03/01/24 02:48 AM

It is extraordinarily rare to end up paying more taxes bc you are married bc you can file separately if that were to happen. The only situation in which that could happen is if both you and your spouse each individually make more than $350k
/r/PurplePillDebate03/01/24 02:46 AM

People always talk about the billionaires getting tax cuts, but no one wants to talk about how the tax code gives way too much to married ppl and families. Fuck that, I already feel lonely, why should I be taxed more bc I can’t find a spouse or what kids.
/r/PurplePillDebate03/01/24 12:54 AM

/r/PurplePillDebate02/01/24 09:41 PM

They play into each other, there is little room to build and no incentive to build cheap housing because you can’t adjust it to the market with rent control.
/r/PurplePillDebate02/01/24 02:35 AM

Rental control is cancer and only makes the housing crisis worse.
/r/PurplePillDebate02/01/24 02:33 AM

I get enjoyment out of seeing places on Zillow have to cut their rents. My little shriveled up heart grows when I see that the guy who increased rent by 20% hasn’t been able to find a tenant for a year, then watch him keep cutting the price every month. ❤️

After reading more about SAH moms or wife’s, I can realize why our divorce system is set up in a way that appears to be unfair to men. If you are stuck at home for 10 years or more and get divorced wtf are you going to do? Even if you have advanced degree, your knowledge is almost obsolete and you haven’t worked in years. You’d be lucky to land any job let alone one that can support you. Half of your husbands stuff seems completely fair.

It’s sad that I’m just figuring this out now, but I didn’t know that your 401k is taxed once you start to do withdrawals. I thought after age 60, you could make tax free withdrawals.
/r/PurplePillDebate01/01/24 03:31 AM

Holy fuck, rent is driving me nuts all I want is to not be robbed when walking out of my apartment and an in unit washer dryer. That apartment could be as small as you want.
/r/PurplePillDebate01/01/24 12:06 AM

Doesn’t seem to hard. If you make 55k according to the 30% rule you can spend about 1400 on rent. If you had roomates that would be pretty easy in most of the US.
/r/PurplePillDebate31/12/23 11:44 PM

Why do people give financial recommendations based on your pretax income? “30% of gross income should be the max you spend on rent”, it only makes sense when you talk about savings where you can take from your pretax income.
/r/PurplePillDebate31/12/23 11:33 PM

Your definition of rent is different than almost anyone else. Going with your definition, I would say we should drastically increase rent to the point that you can no longer sell the land
/r/PurplePillDebate31/12/23 10:45 PM

No bc you can sell your land silly. You can’t sell things you don’t own for a profit.

Uh ackchyually sweaty, it’s called georgism
/r/PurplePillDebate31/12/23 10:21 PM

How do you get money to Russia, I’d imagine it’s kinda hard rn
/r/PurplePillDebate31/12/23 05:28 PM

Woah woah woah, you’re telling me you don’t like sitting still or doing boring work, and are forgetful. PLUS you’re an 11 year old boy? Holy smokes get this guy on prescription meth, nothing will solve this except pharmaceutical grade meth.
/r/PurplePillDebate31/12/23 05:17 PM

Idk why so many people think job necessity or how hard it is correlates to pay. That’s never been true. It’s a matter of how many people can do your job and how in demand your job is. You can do back breaking hard labor, but so can most people if they need to.
/r/PurplePillDebate31/12/23 03:44 PM

r/financialcareers has to be the most cancerous subreddits in existence. I refuse to believe it’s not just a bunch of people role playing their fantasies. 99% of people who work in the financial services industry never go into investment banking buts it’s almost every post. This is the furthest thing from “men bad”. This man is actually bad. He was never in his kids lives, cheated on the mother of his kids with a younger unhinged woman, and has been a borderline alcoholic creating a horrific role model for his kids. Also he has more money than god, but is forcing his “old” family to move out of their childhood home cause he wants to sell.

Messy, two of his kids won’t talk to him anymore.

A few years ago, a family friend’s dad had a mid life crisis. He divorced his wife of like 22 years to marry someone 25 years younger than him and moved to New York where he worked in high finance. Then he did something unexpected, he quit his job and as a hobby started making financial rap music. He’s a weird dude but he let me stay in his pent house while my friends went to a concert in NYC.

Literally. He’s WFH for 3 years at this point and says he just doesn’t want to “figure that all out”. And was impressed when I asked the company for a monitor on my first day.

Sometimes he calls me under the guise that he’s showing me something new, but it turns into a 45 minute call where I share my screen and he tells me exactly how he wants an spreadsheet or report to look. I’m beginning to think this is just faster for him than trying to do it himself.

I just found out my manager’s manager at work, who’s in his mid 40s, doesn’t know how to set up a Bluetooth mouse or a monitor for his laptop. I couldn’t imagine doing my job at any reasonable speed without a secondary screen. He makes like 3x what I do.

Sometimes when I’m watching TV or a movie, I remember these are just people acting like there’s a camera in front of them, and directors, and they read a script and are playing it out like puppets. It’s so weird, happens really bad when I’m high. No conversation I have ever had happens like it does in a TV show or movie. Actors are all effeminate weirdos who like attention

Trades people on the internet try to flex how much they make an hour, which typically is pretty good. But they always get the calculation wrong, I didn’t go to college so I’d make more money, I went so I can sit in an air conditioned room drinking coffee and have the worst part of my day being a boring meeting.
/r/PurplePillDebate22/12/23 02:52 AM

This is an old take, but rings true. The older I get the more I hate how commercialized Christmas/holidays are. I’m so sick of garbage, I have enough money that anything you buy me I would have bought myself if I wanted it, and anything I want that I don’t have is so far outside of gift range.

If someone at work tells you they’ll follow up with you on Monday, what time is appropriate to msg them following up on your request assuming I’m out until Friday.

I need a 3% on my final paper for a class to pass and graduate. It’s a good paper and the logical side of my brain tells me I can relax, but the other side says I should stay up and contemplate how this could ruin my life if I fail the class.

I feel like no one talks about how many stem majors are dumb. Anything with bio in the name, pure physics & math, environmental science, geology, etc. none of these are good for getting a job and only set you up to be a cheap research positions or to go get your masters.

I think I’m going to start scheduling doctors appointments months in advance for issues I don’t have yet and cancel if nothing comes up. Cause wtf my dermatologist telling me it’s going to be 5 months before they can see me.
/r/PurplePillDebate14/12/23 09:29 PM

From this point onward, I should never have to hear “well I felt pressured into going”, “I didn’t know how expensive it would be”, “no one explained to me how loans and interest worked, “how did someone let me as a 17 year old pull out these loans”, etc. from any person taking out student loans. I’m not even in college and I feel like everyone has been drilling that into young people’s heads for years.
/r/PurplePillDebate13/12/23 02:49 PM

Sometimes I feel bad for poor old people, but then I remember how easy it was for them to be rich and I get over it. My grandma was a teacher and my grandpa never went to college just worked manual labor jobs, not exactly high paying. They will die easily, easily 10x what I’m likely to die with. If you’re poor and you were born before the 1950s. You’re just dumb.

Gotta keep this vague, but I interned for a multi billion dollar company a few years ago. During the internship, they split interns into groups and we were tasked with crafting a new product line that would align with the company. Our group did it, presented it to some VPs and didn’t think much of it. My friend who works there currently just had a meeting where they announced they would be moving the exact line products (this is a very niche product) into stores and they had been working on it f…

They do it because it’s easy and it gives them a good number. My point is the number is miss leading. How do we get this far and you think that number shows civilian casualties? Women can be combatants and not all men are, children can be combatants. It’s a borderline useless number that meant to pull at peoples heart strings
/r/PurplePillDebate10/12/23 05:40 PM

Again, I know why they do it. But it still implies all women are innocent. When now that I think it through, makes even less sense because I am sure there are tons of women over there assisting the “cause”. On a side note, when they say children they often consider anyone under 21 a child which is dumb cause 15 year olds can definitely be just as much of a combatant as a 40 year old. That’s a whole different issue tho.

Due to current events, there are a lot of statistics coming out in units of “women and children” and I always find it weird when an ultra leftist says it without pause. I understand why those units are used, but why not a statistic for “non combatants”? The original kinda implies that all men are combatants and that women can’t be. Might be true, but just a weird thing. It’s probably just due to what stats can be gathered, but it comes off as “I am politically correct and inclusive, until I can …

The first situation is only one where it makes sense. Even then it would only be for a few weeks. 6 months of expenses should be kept in a HYD savings account. Most do same day transfers and you only need 6m of expenses if you lose your job.

Those social media posts where they ask people how much money they have in their bank account always confuse me. How tf do you have 100k in a checking account? Anyone with that much money should know that’s an absurd way to store money. Invest it in an ETF, bonds, HYD savings account? Do something only keep enough for like 2 months of expenses
/r/PurplePillDebate08/12/23 07:18 PM

Rich people volunteering has always rubbed me the wrong way, like ya it’s better than nothing but donating $100 would go way further than you spending two hours building a bench or something. I remember when I was a student and I volunteered at a meals on wheels thing often and I’d regularly meet very religious lawyers, surgeons, businessmen who would go there. Like ya that’s cool, but it seems like you’re just hear to feel better about yourself.

Ya and I bet flying a helicopter to work would be faster. Living alone should be viewed as an extreme luxury, not a base level. Also I think on a human level, it’s healthier to live with others. Humans are social creatures and have evolved to survive in groups. Sort of like exercise, sucks in the moment but is better for you in the long term.

I feel like peoples expectations for what life should be vs what life is causes like 99% of the problems in the first world. One big example is living alone. Why do so many people seem to think it’s normal to do that. Throughout 99% of human history people haven’t lived alone and it was weird to live alone. Even today most of the world other than western countries don’t do this. Only in like the past few decades has it been normalized to live on your own.

Idk wtf you’re talking about, but no man is moving up in these jobs. In the 3 years I worked at a large retail store not a single coworker of mine moved to management. They all left.
/r/PurplePillDebate01/12/23 09:15 PM

I’ve worked in corporate America for a year at this point and it’s a fucking cake walk compared to retail or fast food. I’m amazed how those companies are able to treat people and retain anyone. I wouldn’t go back to those jobs even if they paid $10k more than my current job. People treat you at those jobs like you’re a fucking idiot. I was working on my master in accounting while getting treated by customers and management like I was a 14 year old. They also penny pinch you like nothing else. G…

The comparison between trades and college is so dumb. The guys who get into trades and do well and enjoy it, grew up doing that stuff. Working with their parents, doing stuff with their hands, etc. Very rarely do you see someone who has literally no experience doing manual labor just hope in and learn it. If you don’t know what you want, probably means you should go to community college, not take up plumbing.

This is more is a psychology problem not an economics problem. Humans are better off now than at any point in history. It’s the Keeping up with the Joneses has infected people brains and caused them to not accept the progress we are making and to want more and more.

Another take on the overall economy I have, is housing prices. Comparing housing prices is more complex than just looking at median housing prices over time. People don’t realize the median home now is 150% the size of the median 1980s home. Of course the median price is going to go up, if you adjust for inflation the median price of a square foot of housing has remained very steady for the 1970s on word. Now I know salaries haven’t kept pace with inflation, but you can paint a much darker image…

Whenever student debt is brought up, I get so frustrated when people start to bring up “averages”. Average is a horrible way to talk about almost anything to do with money especially concerning college debt. Average sums all the debt across everyone, this number ends up being so misleading because some dumb ass who went to a private or out of state college and racked up $120k in debt is put with a dude who went to cc then got a bachelors in state and graduated with $8k in debt. In this situation…

None of y’all have ever been up like I’m up. I have a job lined up for after graduation, I’m in the best shape of my life, and my family is wealth. Life doesn’t get much better.
