I shop at small bookstores to keep them open. The occasional book that I buy might be marginally more expensive, but it's worth it if a) I need it now, not 7-10 days from now, or b) it helps keep my adorable little bookstore open, which is run by this awesome guy who's lived around here forever and employs broke college students and has basically created a really wonderful little area for people to come and discover books.
