"Be discerning and restrained about what you eat" is very different advice from "Stop eating real food."

The right perspective is that "sex drive" is culturally inculcated, not a biological need. The need for companionship may go a bit deeper, but confusing companionship with sex would be a mistake. My view is not callous or ignorant. Refraining from sex until you find someone you trust and respect is quite feasible and beneficial. I did it.

It's called appeal to extremes, among other things.

That doesn't make it sensible or justifiable. It's not like it's a fundamental need, like water. You can go without indefinitely without health consequences, including mental health if you have the right perspective.

That's not what I was doing. I was pointing out that the argument used by the GP is a fallacy, because it could equally be used to justify eating broken glass.

The thirsty risk death. Restraint about casual sex risks missing a little pleasure.

doesn't mean other men can't be fans of casual sex I can't stop anyone from being a fan of eating broken glass, but that doesn't change the harm or foolishness of it.

[Critique my reasoning] Your post is a logically disconnected string of assertions, and I'm not seeing much to explain why you believe those assertions. I.e., there's very little reasoning here to critique.

Assuming everything/almost everything TRP philosophy suggests about female nature (that women are manipulative, calculating and utilitarian when it comes to relationships by nature) and about how society treats women more favourably compared to men to be true Big ifs!! It's good you call it "philosophy," because that's what this is. There is no empirical basis for most TRP beliefs. TRP philosophy suggests (I am trying to be as objective and unbiased as possible) that women lose attraction to a m…

My gender is irrelevant. Courage, service, inventiveness, discipline, generosity, gentleness, restraint, good humor, effective collaboration; these are worthy qualities. Generating copies of our DNA is just what we've been optimized for. That doesn't mean it's worthwhile.

How can a man know of it is ok to ask a girl out? Subtle cues like the following... I know it's obscure, but you'd think someone studying cultural anthropology could pick up on it... I really appreciate your feedback about my class and choreography, but these messages are getting excessive. I think our friendship needs to remain in the professional setting. Many of the things you say, like that Instagram comment for example, is over the top and I wouldn’t be comfortable hanging out outside of my…

The law is imposed by the sovereign institutions of the nation, which naturally care more about the legitimacy, security and productivity of themselves, the nation, and its citizens, in that order, than they do about preserving historical iniquities. It's very naive to imagine that the law has anything more than an accidental relationship to how humans would relate in a brute state of nature.

I'm just stating the black-and-white consequences of such behavior. If you physically force someone to have sex with you, that's definitionally rape, and a criminal act. As far as I can tell, though I am no lawyer, it ought also to be a federal offense. I have no conceit about who is better, but I do know I would be ashamed and mortified to even consider doing that.

I mean how can a wife or even a girlfriend deny a man sex? We're way bigger than you. That's rape, and is a crime even in states where prohibitions against rape give consideration to marital status.

Do you think interrogating the roots and merits of widespread obsessions is going to lead to the end of civilization, or something?
/r/PurplePillDebate24/12/18 08:09 PM

That is an invidious question. Another question would be, does prioritizing biological reproduction still have any merit, given our recent understanding that it arose from cultural and biological selection for reproductive fitness? Once you know the rules of the game which shaped you, you're not obliged to keep playing by those rules. To do so without a compelling extrinsic reason is atavistic.
/r/PurplePillDebate24/12/18 06:29 PM

It doesn't have to be like that. People don't assess each other just in terms of appearance, especially as they get to know each other well and depend on each other for support.

Why didn't you look outside that circle?
/r/PurplePillDebate24/12/18 05:11 AM

Your expressed view is too vague to engage. Firstly, it's a question of prevalence. What information would change your view on such a question, apart from a survey interrogating the frequency such behavior? Secondly, "such a shameless, selfish, pathetic manner as below..." Do you mean men aren't so shameless, selfish and pathetic in their justifications for cheating, or that their justifications don't involve narcissistic expectations like this, of "support" from friends for bad behavior? If the…

This paper describes the first neural-net architecture which reached human performance on a simple image-recognition task, an extremely basic prerequisite. Try to fit that in a kilobyte.
/r/PurplePillDebate17/12/18 06:42 AM
1

It only seems simple to you because you've been swimming in the foundational concepts and perceptual capabilities your whole life. I doubt you could fit the complete description of a machine to reliably recognize female promiscuity into a gigabyte, and that's a very loose upper bound of what can be represented in a human genome.
/r/PurplePillDebate17/12/18 05:29 AM
1

It's extremely elaborate from the perspective of what it would take to encode recognition of it into a primate genome and read it back out.
/r/PurplePillDebate17/12/18 03:09 AM

we should strive to understand our innate biological predisposition instead of ignoring it; if nothing else, simply to overcome them. Totally agree.

That sounds like a reasonable position.

Criticizing people's sexual behavior is a slippery slope, too. A post like this with derogatory conclusions about gay lifestyles would also be unacceptable.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/12/18 09:38 PM
1

Well, it certainly does. Earlier someone asked me whether I thought sexual racial preferences are acceptable. Let's stipulate that they are. That doesn't mean it's OK for people to get on reddit and explain why they find the idea of sex with a certain racial group disgusting.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/12/18 08:58 PM
2

evolution certainly influences our behavior and the traits we find attractive While that's certainly true, the claim that disgust at female promiscuity has a biologically determined evolutionary basis is much stronger, and there is no convincing reason for believing it. I don't see how the same argument can be applied to justify xenophobic disgust at all E.g., "There were strong evolutionary pressures towards fear and hatred towards outsiders. You can clearly see it in operation in nonhuman soci…
/r/PurplePillDebate16/12/18 08:55 PM
1

It's not just a private concern if you're repeatedly voicing your disgust about it, and justifying that disgust in terms of unconvincing social science results, on reddit.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/12/18 08:49 PM
1

The biological basis for aversion to fire is perhaps learning from pain, or perhaps fear of the unfamiliar. These are simple, essential cognitive patterns, and it's easy to see how they could pass through the information bottleneck of genetic transmission. Female promiscuity is an elaborate concept, and there's no obvious way for that to be encoded in the genome. And lower primates do have culture, and cultural transmission.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/12/18 07:19 PM
1

The point is that the same argument can be used to reach a different conclusion which is outrageous (in this case that xenophobic disgust is acceptable), and therefore that the argument used to justify the first conclusion is fallacious. I wasn't assuming that the first conclusion was outrageous to begin with.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/12/18 07:14 PM

A lot of atavistic cognition arises from the limbic system, and a lot of civilized behavior depends on taming it.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/12/18 07:11 PM
1

It's a common rhetorical/logic device, to show that an argument is fallacious by applying the same reasoning to reach an outrageous conclusion.

http://pin.primate.wisc.edu/factsheets/entry/bonobo/behav Yes, it was a concern for our ancestors, but the idea that there's a biological basis for disgust at female promiscuity is highly speculative. No plausible biological mechanism has been proposed, whereas cultural transmission of such mores is obviously plausible. What, exactly, about modern genetics makes this concern ativistic? Paternity testing, of course. The heart wants what it wants You could make the same argument for racism based o…
/r/PurplePillDebate16/12/18 07:15 AM

That's a completely atavistic concern given modern genetics, and your implication that disgust at female promiscuity has some biologically determined evolutionary basis is highly speculative.

The qualities the OP implies are usefully correlated with sexual history, of course. If you can't size someone up pretty accurately over that timescale, you're not making much effort to get to know them.

there's no reason why you should exert so much energy on trying to figure out why they're in a suboptimal group Ultimately my strategy when dating was to date many people quickly, and focus my energies on a few people who seemed to particularly suit me. Number of previous partners just wasn't a useful filter for this. I was more interested in assessing whether people were stable, kind, sensible, and driven by goals compatible with my own. Dating is not a job interview or a low-information bet. At least, it shouldn't be. You can abandon the relationship with no cost at any time up to marriage, and you should be learning about you partner in great detail, making deception very hard to pull off.

It's just how girls are. They want a man to "take them" and "ravage them". Putting up token resistance plays into this fantasy. The idea that all women think this way is the "rapey" part.
/r/PurplePillDebate06/12/18 07:02 PM

The concept of LMR as something a man has to push through to get a woman to have sex with him is the "rapey" part, and the song is harmful to the extent it promotes that concept. As other people have said ITT, it's an out of date concept. A woman doesn't need an alibi, these days, and if you're pursuing sex with someone who thinks she does, it's best to find someone less conflicted. That said, it's a cute song, and it's not that hard to keep in mind how the context has shifted since it was writt…
