OP, I'll see you on Jerry Springer, because apparently we're married to the same gal!

Look, man. Better a weekend in Disneyland than never getting to visit at all. :)

That's rough sledding, brother. You have every right to feel your knees quaking under that load but listen to me: You matter. Your life matters. You've got 8,000 generations of men who came before you who wrestled mastodons, fought wars, and did hard shit. WE'RE MADE TO DO HARD SHIT. Doesn't mean you're Superman. Doesn't mean you can't reach out and ask for help. But it does mean you've got to soldier through this. We're part of a collective brotherhood. None of us get left behind. As some other…

Thank you for sharing this. I sometimes wonder if this sub is an echo chamber: there's a lot of "we did our duty, she acted on emotions". But, man, like so many other guys here my situation maps onto that almost 1:1. I'm not ready to make global pronouncements a la "all men are duty driven, all women are emotional" but, good lord, it feels like that is the case 99% of the time.

^^^ THIS right here, my brother. A porn problem/addiction is a legit reason for a spouse to feel stressed, betrayed, hurt, etc. It is NOT an excuse for an affair. It's not like she learned about your porn issue, slipped on a banana peel, and landed on some dude's dong. Point is: you may have caused her stress but you did not cause her affair. Praying for you, bro. Hang in there and take it one step, one punch, one round at a time. You got this.

First: I'm sorry you're going through this. Second: As shitty as things may feel right now, YOU'VE GOT THIS. Listen: Working your way up to 80k a year in sales is no joke. If you've done it once, you can do it again. There's a lot of strong advice and encouragement in this thread, I'll add: the awesome thing about sales is that your earning potential is practically uncapped. So you could go from 80k to 160k or higher. What other sales positions could you pursue? Get creative. Are there companies…

Your comment about her coming home in the other dude's hoodie hit me like a punch in the gut. Damn. Truly sorry you had to experience that, brother. I'm not gonna bullshit like I've got any advice or counsel to offer. But from one internet stranger to another: praying for your strength and resilience. One way or another, you've got this.

I'd get the hell off Reddit and start calling the top lawyers in my area if I were you. Good luck.

So, man to man, I'm gonna be real: you're sounding like a whiny bitch. All those grievances you have with your wife that you listed? Could be 100% true. But guess what? Doesn't matter. Instead of obsessing over all the ways you wish she'd improve, put on your King Sized nutties, and take FULL accountability for your own damn life. That's all you can do. If you're not already doing these things, then: - Life heavy shit (this is non-negotiable) - Plan epic adventures and invite her along (whether …

re: gentle parenting... My pops taught me one of the most important lessons of my life -- and he sure as hell wasn't gentle about it! Here's the story: I was a good kid, but could also be a mouthy little shit. When I was 12 or 13, I said something that made my mom cry. I honestly can't even remember what I said, but I must have crossed a line. When my pops came home he entered my bedroom, walked me right up against a wall, firmly pushed his finger into my chest and said, "Your mother told me wha…

Not saying us dudes aren't susceptible to peer influence and social pressure. We definitely are. But there's compelling evidence to suggest that women are more affected by social media -- especially when it comes to anxiety, depression, and body image -- than men. Insta-sham, Fakebook, et al -- that shit is corrosive, man.

From one internet stranger to another: THANK YOU. Truly. I'm in the eye of the storm (2nd mediation call is Monday) and need to hear this.

What folks need to understand is that EVERY marriage comes with a prenup. You either accept the one your state mandates, or you work with counsel to create one that (ideally) does a better job of protecting you and your assets if things go south. Good for you entering this marriage with a clear head and open eyes. Marriage can be an amazing, wonderful union -- and I wish you and your partner the very best -- but not every story has a happy ending. And if shit hits the fan, you absolutely want to…

CONGRATS! And the "Meditations" should be required reading for every dude going through this experience.

I'm not saying this is universally true. But as a man... Sharing your emotions with a woman is like bleeding in front of a shark.

If this isn't allowed, go ahead and remove it mods. But Henry Rollins' essay "Iron and the Soul" should be required reading for every dude going through a divorce: https://www.nerdfitness.com/iron-and-soul/

I hear you, brother. It's like my brain and, uh, other parts of my body are betraying me by reminding me that my STBXW is a good looking gal. It is what it is. We can't control their actions. But you can control your actions. If you haven't already, get a gym membership. The gym is now your house of worship, the iron is your salvation. To quote Henry Rollins: "Friends may come and go. But 200 pounds is always 200 pounds." LIFT HEAVY SHIT. I know this may sound reductive, but it's the truth: lift…

As some other folks said: just rip off the band-aid. Yes, it sucks. But listen: 6 years is a (relatively) short marriage. You'll likely owe alimony for 3ish years. Rebuild stronger, wiser, and wealthier. You've got this, brother.

Start a business. Could be a side hustle, weekend gig, solopreneur, or whatever. Start small. Ideally, do something where you're paid based on your performance. (I started a direct response copywriting business, for example.) When it comes to getting paid, no one -- not your boss, your company, the market, etc. -- gives a shit what you think you're worth. The only value that comes from "I'm not getting paid what I'm worth" thinking is if you use it was motivation to go out there and get that bre…

Don't think, don't feel, just do. Treat yourself like an automaton, a machine, if you have to. But just do it. Start small: 15 pushups today, a brisk walk around the block. Get started and don't stop. Build momentum. It's like a flying an airplane: the hardest part is getting it off the ground. Once you've built up some momentum and the plane is in the air, it's smooth sailing. Get started and don't stop. (I draw a small heart in my day planner next to each day I exercise. Point is to build up a…

Hey, my man, listen: 59 is NOT getting close to the end of your life. No retreat, no surrender!
