99.9% of the time it won't lead to anything but the friendzone and you just end up being the gay friend. I think his response is perfect, staying firm and giving them the chance to change but being clear he's interested romantically. In this situation this was already a perfect answer.

I'm just going to say that apart from the piling on about your question - your first response is already perfect. This is how you avoid the friendzone. Not accepting it and hoping something will change when 99.9% of the time it won't, but being clear that you're interested romantically and they can come back to you if they miss you. Examine your ability to read...This may be big shocking news to you but the super conservative traditional practice isn't new and it isn't a lone wolf. Even Israel was shocked by the herpes outbreak that killed babies there and most normal Jews probably think it's just as crazy as we do, but it's not a one-of story, it happens again every few months to years because it's a sect.

And you were, and deleted it when it was clear you had horribly misunderstood everything. People had explained it to you so many times and you just refused to listen.
