Got into an argument the other day on Discord with a bunch of older guys about this. They said how great being a step dad is and were pressuring one guy on it to just toss away his drive to have his own kids and pursue a "mature and collected" woman with kids. I don't see how anyone sees this as redeeming for themselves.

This was my mother to my dad's kids from his first marriage. She was a terrible step mother to my paternal half siblings, but my dad was completely accepting of my mother's kids from her first marriage. There really is no good reason to mess with single moms.
