Studies aren't just done to oppose a claim. Studies are done to confirm claims, to verify previous results, for explorative and/or investigative reasons, for publicity and to reject claims. Of course men who are in better shape and have muscles are going to be more attractive, The point of studies is also to back up "of course"s with hard data. There's no "obvious" in that sense. Just like a woman in great shape is more attractive than one that isn't. Ah. But is it? And what is great shape? Are …

Whatever ppl in this sub say or r/incels or r/FemaleDatingStrategy etc. is usually not the norm at all. The logic is usually "studies show people prefer tomatoes over potatoes" -> "omg those potatoes are fucked".

Better treatment and more compliments do play a role in this but IMO the bigger role is whether you're the kind of personality who is dependent on this. You could be happy with the current amount of attention which in case of you being normal weight would be more than enough to find a suitable mate - so why the motiviation for more? Perfectionism maybe, maybe a bit of histrionic/narcissistic. This part of why I also consider an inability to be happy with "good enough" in this. You get attention …

MI don't just have a single unique cause. Otherwise MDD would be caused by just one thing for all MDD cases. The issue is laymen see MI as diseases which they are NOT. This is the single biggest misconception about mental health. MIs are syndromes - not diseases. There are underlying pathologies that manifest as a given syndrome. Saying someone has MDD should be seen as saying someone has a headache. Headache isn't a disease - it is a manifestation of something. Since they are syndromes people w…

So to be clear: I perfectly accept that incentives and compliments can be the culprit but that ain't pressure and it ain't necessary. That's my angle.

If you as a man want to hate on women wearing too much makeup, maybe you should consider the many reasons why many women feel inadequate without it. How's stating preferences hate? I don't go around claiming women who have height preferences hate men. What exactly is your issue? And I'm considering the reasons and I've decided that I wouldn't want to date a woman who has issues with her looks in the same way most women wouldn't want to date men with similar issues. Doesn't mean I hate them but I…

Maybe, but I wouldn't ignore the impact a negative dating outlook can have. But until more research is in this is a matter of opinion.

you agree that men abusing steroids is sometimes driven by what men believe women want, no? Yes. But it's not always realistic. including BUT NOT EXCLUSIVE TO male attention, can contribute to women thinking they need to be thinner/prettier, and that can sometimes be reinforced until the woman reaches an extreme. Yes. That's what I've mentioned in the root post?
/r/PurplePillDebate05/11/19 03:59 PM
1

Steroid abuse isn't necessarily BDD. If women want men to have green hair then wanting to have green hair isn't BDD. Pressure to look a certain way and to engage in behaviours to improve looks is not BDD. I suspect this is why you thought I'd blame women for male BDD?
/r/PurplePillDebate05/11/19 02:40 PM
1

So you agree that male BDD is driven in part by women’s stated desires and behaviors, No, not at all. I don't remember even hinting at that. Can you cite why you think I'd agree with this?

when women are harmed, it’s women’s own fault, and when men are harmed, it’s also women’s fault No, that's silly.

I wouldn't necessarily buy that all the women with BDD are objectively gorgeous just because someone on Reddit said so. Yes, not necessarily. You can have actual flaws in addition to an imagine flaw for example. All female patients I had contact with were just your average woman (and thus gorgeous).
/r/PurplePillDebate05/11/19 02:28 PM
1

Sufferers of BDD obsess over a perceived flaw (BY THE SUFFERER) that does not actually exist (or it's relevance is exaggerated). I see no logical flaw there. That's the way BDD is defined.

And where do you think mental disorders come from? The idea of them being endogenous brain diseases was a lie sold by narcissistic psychiatrists in the past but it's not how modern psychiatry views it (with the exception of some dumbass psychiatrists). You might want to read https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biopsychosocial_model

I don't mean to be rude to you but if you want to engage in this discussion at least read the first few paragraphs on Wikipedia.

Doesn't matter. In the end it's the judgement of the diagnosing physician whether the flaw is exaggerated or not.

You're confusing BDD with BID. Come back once you've studies clinical psychology. Kthxbye.
/r/PurplePillDebate05/11/19 01:29 PM

The issue is similar to what tends to be said about incels. I.e. "they want a stacy not a becky". If you're only going to be happy with a stacy you'll conclude that looks are key and there's lots of focus on looking good -> blackpill/bigorexia/bdd. However, the same is true for women. If you're only after chad you'll conclude looks are key and you'll focus a lot on it -> blackpill/anorexia/bdd. However, as said the idea of 80% of women just wanting chads is ridiculous (and not realistic anyway).
/r/PurplePillDebate05/11/19 12:29 PM
1

I agree with all of that.
/r/PurplePillDebate05/11/19 12:22 PM
1

I like the slight insult in this? Maybe, not sure if that was directed towards me? If yes then I'm going to take a rain check because presumably this won't even remotely be a factually based discussion then. Otherwise yes, telling them they're attractive won't change things. That's a hallmark of BDD.
/r/PurplePillDebate05/11/19 12:21 PM
1

Bit of an oversimplification and overgeneralization?
/r/PurplePillDebate05/11/19 12:01 PM

The individual must be preoccupied with one or more nonexistent or slight defects or flaws in their physical appearance. This is a must for BDD. The flaw must be nonexistent or slight. If there were an actual flaw you wouldn't fulfill this criterion and thus you wouldn't have BDD. I don't see what's so confusing about it? The definition is pretty clear?
/r/PurplePillDebate05/11/19 10:49 AM

Did you read the DSM criteria for BDD? Or research criteria?

Having fancy finger nails makes women feel girly even though men hardly give a crap. Why wouldn't beards sometimes work like that?
/r/PurplePillDebate05/11/19 10:45 AM
1

Why not? Don't you want to fit in?
/r/PurplePillDebate05/11/19 10:43 AM

Why not? We have some idea of masculinity and thus some men wear beards. Others do it to look good for women. Depends on the person.

I don't see anything wrong with those womem you posted so they'd certainly be considered beautiful. Again, I did not say you have to be "most beautiful" to have BDD. What I said was you have to be beautiful to have it. In gay communities the standard of beauty might be defined by their peers. If your looks are severly hindering your success with potential mates then you don't have an exaggerated nor imaginary flaw but a REAL flaw as witnessed by peers. If you have a REAL flaw then you don't have…

There are self-imposed standards yes. For example most commonly finger nails in women or beards in men.

IMO this is a result of desiring a very hot successful man above everything else. If you compete with 1000 other women for a single guy obviously this will result in competitive pressure but the vast majority of men aren't involved in this. Theoretically there are more than enough men available but the question is how many of them women actually consider potential mates. If they consider very few men as potential mates then there's competitive pressure but again.. it would be inaccurate to attri…

It doesn't say that nor did I say that. This sounds like a misunderstanding between us. I just don't understand why you have this caveat, it's really bizarre. The point was to demonstrate that it isn't due to pressure from men to look good because the "most beautiful women" certainly look more than good enough and there's no pressure on them from men to look good because they already look good. I just formulated the question this way to put emphasis on this. Of course you don't have to be a top …
/r/PurplePillDebate05/11/19 10:10 AM
1

Well.. sortof. My point is that these disorders don't causative arise from pressure from men. If you have BDD then there's no objective problem in terms of mate finding capabilities in terms of looks. If you have BDD you look fine. Otherwise you wouldn't qualify for BDD. Since you look fine men will be attracted to you thus pressure from men can't possibly have a significant role in this. Media blaming men for this is highly misleading.
/r/PurplePillDebate05/11/19 09:56 AM
1

If your appearence allows you to attract a decent amount of potential mates then by any reasonable definition you are beautiful and there's no clinically relevant problem in reproduction and capability to obtain love - assuming you're otherwise mentally healthy. If a person despite this believes there is a problem then you have a discrepancy between reality and how the person interprets reality and this is what the mental illness is about. If you weren't able to attract mates and think there's a…

/r/PurplePillDebate05/11/19 09:38 AM

(Could lose a pound doesn't necessarily count as a flaw. Maybe this is the misunderstanding here. I'm using flawless in the sense of what an average (not arithmetic average) healthy human looks like. The average healthy woman is certainly beautiful.)

Do you know how BDD works? Yes. It is a major discrepancy between how a sufferer perceives themselves vs. how other perceive themselves plus obsessive behaviours and rumination and the suffering must cause clinically significant impact on social and occupational functioning. Specifically there needs to be an imagined flaw that doesn't exist or is blown out of proportion. This means to qualify for BDD you have to look (almost) flawless as otherwise the flaw wouldn't be imaginary. https://bdd.iocd…

MI aren't diseases. That's why they APA calls them disorders. And it's foolish to assume MI don't arise from societal and economic problems. The environment plays a role in this. And BDD is about how others perceive you. If you get dates then it's unlikely that you're ugly but if you still feel ugly then you might have BDD. BDD by definition implies that you think your appearance is flawed even though the environment tells you otherwise. but I don't think it's based on how many dates you get- It…

That's the way BDD is defined. It has to be contrary to other people's opinion.
/r/PurplePillDebate05/11/19 09:17 AM

If you're not beautiful then the flaw isn't non-existent thus BDD wouldn't be a correct diagnosis.
/r/PurplePillDebate05/11/19 08:08 AM
1

Personally, I never felt pressured by men, it was the pressure (which I made myself) to be as beautiful as other women. This is what I'd consider the root cause. I hope you're well.
/r/PurplePillDebate05/11/19 07:50 AM
1

By definition of BDD you have to be beautiful. Otherwise you don't have BDD the same way you can't be anorexic if you're at a normal weight. What do you mean by "sort of ignored"?
/r/PurplePillDebate05/11/19 07:47 AM
-1

That is of course true. Being better looking results in better treatment but how do you explain the huge difference in rates between women and men. As a man, even being a bit more beautiful will also result in better treatment. Being beautiful also influences your survival chance in a medical emergency.
/r/PurplePillDebate05/11/19 07:36 AM
2

It'd be foolish to ignore environmental factors. MI aren't simply endogenous brain diseases. That's too simplistic.

Ah. Sorry. I forgot to mention those. ED = eating disorder. BDD = body dysmorphic disorder. ED is a category of mental health disorders such as anorexia and bulimia but also binge eating and orthorexia. BDD is a disorder where sufferers are convinced they have an inexistent (as judged by others) flaw in appearance. If the imagined flaw is weight then it isn't BDD but a more specific disorder. Anorexia is sort of like a special version of BDD (sufferers think they are fat when they aren't). In me…

And many dump money and attention and likes on instagram models they have no shot with- "Many"? You think many men are doing this? That's probably less than 0.1% that is doing that. It is self-inflicted exactly the way any body-dismorphia is- And your evidence for this is? Most women with BDD look completely fine and almost any man or woman will tell them they look fine. Those cases of BDD are not the fault of men. If 90% of men would consider you beautiful yet you don't consider yourself beauti…

SO, this is the reason why some women work exceptionally hard to be prettier. Men desire beauty and reward it very strongly-- how are you not getting it that this male attention is a motivation for being highly focused on beatuy? Because this is bullshit. Every man would do better if prettier, yet evidently EDs are currently predominantly affecting womem. Just because you do better if prettier does not imply that you have to go through all this. I'm not calling them anything. Women with 100s of bikini shots on IG don't have EDs nor BDD nor are they doing it to please men. Or they might... but it's got nothing to do with this.
/r/PurplePillDebate05/11/19 05:55 AM
1

Oh and yes. I'm very passionate about eradicating eating disorders and body dysmorphia that's why I have such an aggressive tone. These disorders are lethal. In a sense spreading misinformation about men is killing women. And that's not good imo. Nobody should die due to such bullshit.

I’m not teaching women that their beauty is all that matters? So far you've stated numerous times that men value mostly looks a lot and beauty is all that matters to men. So yes.. you're teaching women this by spreading this false information. And this is the reason I insult you because this way you're not helping those women but you're part of the fucking problem.
/r/PurplePillDebate04/11/19 09:47 PM

Everybody would do better if prettier. Everybody would do better if smarter. Everybody would do better with X. So? Men constantly pursue pretty women— women who aren’t beautiful have to put in a lot more work. Well... yeah. If I were a rich, attractive celebrity women would throw themselves at me. So? Does this mean men are under so much pressure to look good? If women received no incentives to present themselves as more beautiful, women would not post instagram selfies or wear makeup and you co…
/r/PurplePillDebate04/11/19 09:33 PM

I don't. But I can understand that you as a woman have a different view on it. Also part of the human condition. Women for example often state that wearing suits is personality and not looks whereas for men that would be looks. For me having 100s of bikini shots is the PERSONALITY equivalent of a guy posting pics of his junk. Yes, one's currently more socially acceptable but to me both of those reflect the same (negative) personality trait.
/r/PurplePillDebate04/11/19 09:23 PM
1

If being valued for how you look is part of the human condition, then why are you insulting me personally for agreeing with you that female beauty matters?? I'm disagreeing to the degree to which it matters. Black and white arguments are silly. "Would you date a 10cm tall guy? No? OMG looks". Yes, humans value look to some degree. What I'm saying is men do not value looks to the degree women usually claim. That lacks any real life evidence. then why did you yourself stress that men could still f…

It’s good to see you agree that it’s not safe or healthy to pressure girls into believing their looks are the most important thing. I do agree with that but I don't see men being responsible for this. Men, are pretty much happy with any regular non-obese woman. The issue is however that the opposite doesn't seem true. Women evidently only favour ~28% of non-obese men in which case you have a 3:1 ratio and obviously THIS creates pressure. The pressure doesn't come from men - it comes from inside …

Maybe plain women are ignored because they were never told how to interact with men? Or maybe because they were told that they are automatically entitled to men's attention? Any regular non-obese women will do fine if she knows how to interact with men. And yes, this might mean that you have to make a step forward. This is how you picked the game. You say "men have to initiate" which leads to certain effects yes. If you're forced to decide between 3 women you don't know which you're going to app…

Additionally (sorry for spamming you btw but I'm a multi-answer type of redditor). Women saying "moo... so much pressure to use make-up and have 200$ haircut and they only want sex etc." are like men saying "moo... so much pressure to have 18cm dick, six pack and 200k$ car". Every healthy man and woman knows both of those are bullshit. And men/women know this. Would you consider it plausible that she'd be asking herself why she's not getting the same treatment? (Of course there could be many reasons for it.) A lot of women here at least seem to think that. Also, the way Incel is described in the media is definiteley painting the picture of mysogynistic violent men. It matters where you draw the line. You might call some feminists extremists. They might not call themselves extremists. The boundary is fuzzy but the common theme is they all run under the label of feminism and they use that label to get (blind) support.

It'll be hard to find a woman that doesn't have kids and the ones that don't either don't want children or there's something off. Being 30ish woman with no children is like being 30ish virgin man.

Well.. yeah. Otherwise he wouldn't play single mothers. Would be pretty dumb to do that if you have other options available. I mean... in terms of effort this oughta be a lot of effort just to get some love (and sex). Constantly moving in and out, being a temporary father etc. etc. Presumably he ain't good looking. I don't see any other reason to pull something like that off.

You think a guy won't risk 5$ for sex? Anything less than 200$ is technically cheaper than a prostitute. If that's the threshold you need 200$ dates :D.

It's because they view relationships as sex for goods/money instead of as two humans liking each other. Back in the day where women didn't work and needed to marry because they weren't self-sustained it made sense that men have to pay simply for practical reasons.

Sex on first date has advantages and disadvantages. Advantages For women: - she imm. knows whether he's good enough in bed. - doesn't matter. Had snu snu. For men: - he imm. know whether she considers him good enough. - doesn't matter. Had snu snu. This avoids realizing after 2mo that he ain't good in bed thus no 2mo wasted for him/her. Disadvantages For women - he might not be good in bed but maybe is otherwise great and maybe things get better over time. - used for sex For men: - if he's not g…

"The goods". "Give up". You don't give up anything. FFS when will this sub stop treating sex like it's something he gets and she gives. That's the wrong way to look at it if you're a feminist.

Ok. 25% of men want 3 babies. 75% want one baby. Total babies: 0.25x3+0.75*1 = 1.5. So 100 men have 150 babies. 25 have 75 babies and 75 have 75 babies. Meaning 25% father 50% of children. All men get laid in this scenario. Happy now?
/r/PurplePillDebate31/10/19 10:56 AM

25% of men father almost 50% of the babies. Doesn't imply the most attractive ones. Maybe the other 75% just want one baby and not more while 25% wants 3 babies.

Eh. Doubt men are that stupid. It's just out of 100 matches maybe only 5-10 are what one would consider decent matches but 5-10 decent matches a month is still 10 times the amount of decent matches male colleagues would get. Some even get zero matches a year even when swiping right on everybody. I can completely understand that men don't give a fuck you have to weed out hundreds of thirst ass men because overall you're still hundreds of times better off than your male colleagues.

The answer is astonishingly simple: It's about measuring your sexual performance. Women nowadays don't want to waste time getting to know a man only to then find out he's not great in bed. The solution is to have sex very early. There's plenty of good men no need to waste a second with somebody who isn't great in bed.

No, they are unanimously deemed inacceptable. By men, by women. Stop your bullshit. Compare: he feels she's into him (like it's a classic "does she want him to initiate?" situation, they've been dating, they're close), he's trying to make out with her. She says no, he gets off her. Coercion maybe, but not rape nor assault. She says no, he grabs her, pulls clothes off. That's assault. If he continues then it progresses to rape. Come on. This distinction ain't that hard.

Well.. "wanna have sex?" doesn't work probably so of course there needs to be more convincing/pressure going on. the majority of women have sex when they dont want to, do sexual acts because of pressure etc , have different expectations Pressuring isn't rape. Unless you pressure with violence or similar. imagine a big man firmly asks you to have anal , repeatedly fingers you anally, That on the other hand IS sexual misconduct. Tip: Walk away. If you're being kissed and you don't want it then wal…

Poverty how. My country considers you poor if you ONLY have money for rent, food, health insurance, household stuff, clothes, 1 year gym membership, transport and 2x1 weeks vacation per year but no money for 350$ shoes. Few women would date such a man. You need money for 350$ shoes. That's sadly what life is about for many women. The ones that would are women who don't value materialistic things more than the rest. It's not about poverty. It's about status. It ain't enough to have enough. It ain…

If men have to initiate sex then under the assumption that men can't read minds they will initiate it when the woman isn't interested which may make her feel pressured. That's inevitable. Solution: "honey, not now." "But it's hard?" "Sorry, another day. " "Hmpf. Fine." Now, some women will now surely scream "entitlement! He should have been happy she said no instead of expressing frustration". That's inevitable. This is reddit. No, nothing to do with reddit. That's just feminism taken too far.

Pretty sure a regular male virgin doesn't want some random undesirable woman either. In that sense I see no difference between femcels and malecels. Yes, femcels could easily get sex but it ain't just about the sex. Same for malecels. It ain't about the sex. However. . At any point 50% of men are single. There pretty much statistically has to be at least one desirable man there. I mean... the statement "no desirable men around" when 50% of men are single makes you sound like "but <hot celebrity>…

Women are the pickier sex. Men don't really give a fuck about your looks if you're not obese. I don't know a time where this would've been different. Pressure on women to look "so good" does not come from men the way you might be thinking. It's a result of women competing for attractive men which due to women being picky are very scarce and it's the scarcity of attractive men that creates the pressure as a result of women having high standards for looks. There IS however pressure from men on wom…

Tricking someone into having a baby is not ok. This goes for both parties. I think if there was no agreement then it's not the couple's baby but her's (it's her body). She can decide to keep it, he can't force abortion, but if she keeps it then it's legally not his kid (also implies no visitation rights).

Let's lie some more." Repeat. You'll hopefully realize that the only winning move is NOT TO play the game? Relationships are based on what? TRUST. If you destroy trust what are you left with? This doesn't work mutually. If everybody would think "if the other doesn't say 'hi' first they don't want anything from me" then nobody would say 'hi'. Inevitably one party thus has to feel entitled and the other party desperate enough to fulfill that entitlement.

Ok, time to get banned from that sub. FDS is essentially using incel rhetoric. I doubt they are "incels" but the rhetoric and theme is exactly the same. It's a cesspool of a hate group. Incels works by overgeneralizing women and using basically stereotypical myths to argue from. Most incels at least. Others do work by using valid research but blow the results out of proportion. FDS does exactly the same thing just genders flipped. FDS has as much PRACTICAL understanding of men as Incels have of …
