“At one point, Kujawa asked Powell how he would react if approached by Perry, a transgender student. The lawsuit states that Powell would ask Perry to “leave him alone,” what do you think is meant by "approach"?

You are presenting his comments out of context. He said he would do this if she pursued him sexually, and persisted after he told her no. In this hypothetical situation, SHE would be the aggressor and he would be acting in self defense. You are coming in to these comments with an agenda of disrupting a fair discussion.

What's insane to me is this: "To be able to establish that a person should not have been convicted, you need something objective,” Wax said in a telephone interview. "In most child sex abuse cases, there is no evidence." . . . wow. And here I thought that "something objective" was supposed to be needed to convict a person. Ya know - innocent until proven guilty? This country is so fucked. They're acting like this was some kind of novel miracle. Really? Looking for the supposedly dead dog wasn't …

Take a look at pictures of her from 18 years ago. She has gained a LOT of muscle in that time. She's an entirely different physique now. Back in 2000 she was super toned and quite muscular but it was an athletic build - she looked strong but fast. She also had a much more feminine face. Now she's really stocky. Her arms are huge. Women do not put on that much muscle naturally especially later in life. Additionally, if she were a stocky build then she'd have always been a stocky build but she's g…

In general I agree, but in this specific case she is careful to say that she's bringing in those three women because the page itself is about women. It's called ladiespassiton dot com for goodness sakes. She does address how it may have broken him. How he'd never have worked again. How he would have lost the respect of his daughter. How he would have lost his partner. I think this page has a good message.

The only one that's saying insticts are choices is you for some reason never said that it's impossible to be truly aware of your cognitive biases i have no idea what you might mean by "truly aware" - i certainly never used those words. but we can definitely become aware of many of our cognitive biases with a little bit of effort. saying every action we take is always a concious choice never said that Men want to make women happy, it's hard-coded into genes on some level key words: on some level …

A rock does not have intelligence, consciousness or awareness . . . Are you denying that? And here's yet another example of you twisting my words. Psychology/psychiatry jump to wild conclusions because: 1) there is a reproducibility crisis in the research literature. The conclusions from these studies get integrated before they are properly tested. 2) those false conclusions make it into the authoritative dianosis and treatment manuals. You can spin it that they are merely updating their assumpt…

Lol ok so he says "things are deteriorating very rapidly at the moment" instead of "things are falling apart". Those two things are the exact same thing in context. The exact same. You're going beyond splitting hairs and being intentionally obtuse.

I'm not splitting hairs here at all. Do you really thing there is no meaningful difference between misusing facts and the far more sophisticated methods I described? If you wont acknowledge that then you clearly have no actual interest in this discussion which is something you initiated. So far that is what I have seen you do: force people to substantiate what they say in an irrefutable way and if they fail to do so you can dismiss what they say (rather than arguing their interpretation you simp…

My critique of psychology is central to my critique of Peterson. If you want to disregard that entirely then I don't really know how to proceed with the discussion. I never said he misuses facts. This is the second time you have twisted my words . . . if you're not doing it on purpose then it's fine. If it's accidental then try to read a bit more carefully. You're also taking my comment about what science measures out of context. This is the third time you are twisting/misunderstanding my argume…

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LedAxZkjQc0 This is not the best one but it's the one I found with the time I have. He's more cautious here than in the other video I remember. I am all for wandering outside expertise. I'm a fairly big critic of overspecialization. It's not that he steps outside of his expertise - that's not what I meant at all. What he does is use psychology to justify his beliefs. Science does not work like that. If anything science is supposed to inform and refine our beliefs rather than be manipulated to seem to support them. In other words it's supposed to work the other direction than he uses it. He does this by treating psychology as a rigorous …

I'd probably be hard pressed to justify this merely with quotes. It's not something he'd admit to, for example and he's an incredibly skilled debater and he knows well not to say things overtly in ways that are easy to counter. He's also sorta changed his tune of late. He used clearly identify as a conservative and as religious but now he calls himself a liberal and pretends to be an agnostic. Yea, he's definitely differently religious than American Christians for example, but he is still religious and he says so himself. And he justifies his fairly rigid sense of propriety and gender roles on the "accumulated wisdom" contained in the Bible and in traditional values etc. While I agree not to throw away everything religious - that religions might be preserving and bequeathing certain lessons for successive generations - I think it's a pretty transparently thin justification for the rat…

Yea, Peterson says a lot of good things and he is an incredibly skilled debater. But he says a lot of antiquated bullshit too. Even the thing you have quoted, if you delve deeper into Peterson's philosophy, is based primarily on his religious beliefs. He uses his psychology background to try to justify it but in my opinion he overextends in this regard quite often - which is a huge problem with modern psychology. LOTS of psychologists have a ton of education and experience and they use this to j…

feminism is about equality I don't know why people need to pretend this. Feminists demonstrate over and over that they do not even recognize any men's rights issues. From an organizational standpoint I do not think Feminism needs to concern itself with men's rights. So stop pretending otherwis…

He specifically says she will probably cheat on him. Meaning they are in a monogamous relationship. He's preemptively cheating because all women are cheaters. He's saying all women are liars. Here's a few things he said: Even the best women in the world lie to make themselves look better and I haven't dated a single woman that hasn't lied to my face. Lies I could prove were lies in a matter of seconds, but it doesn't stop them. This is basically a description of a pathological liar btw. I never said we can choose our instincts. Lemme give you some examples so that you can see the choices I'm talking about. 1) I'm at a brewery with a buddy. It's not busy in the slightest. Buddy asks bartender if they do samples. Bar tender says yes. That's it. No "sure dude what would you like to try". Buddy says he'd like a sample of such and such beer. Well, words are tricky, and you sure are being tricky-dicky with your words. Anyone who thinks about it for a moment will realize that your claim that you love women was more than just a claim that you love women. In context it is clear that you were trying to ameliorate your sexist assertions about women. Secondly, loving an individual is different than loving something. In these two cases the word love means different things. What is it then to "love women". It even seems different than "love …

I agree with much of what you're saying but women only have "sexual power" because men allow it. Men choose their own actions. I watch the men around me act like fucking simians when a pretty woman walks in the room. And this effect is not limited to daily actions. Men do actually consider women when choosing their path in life. If we want to hold women accountable for their actions, we must also hold ourselves accountable. Yea, the pay gap is utter bullshit. I wasn't trying to use those specific studies as "proof". But the fact that so much research is being done surrounding the issue is proof that there is at the very least a significant amount of doubt about whether IQ test performances are as independent of education as you are pretending. You can't utterly fail to address a legitimate point, insult someone multiple times, and then just repeat something like an unthinking automaton and expect me to acknowledge your stance. If you just think about it a little you'd realize it's not for lack of receptiveness, but a legitimate reaction to the way that YOU have conducted yourself and a failure to present anything credible or new to add to the discussion that might actually change someone's view.

"If you just think about it a little" there's no way that measurement of abstract visual patterns could possibly account for most of what intelligence really is. What about social intelligence? What about physical intelligence? What about linguistic intelligence? And still, even with those pattern recognition tests you mention, I suspect a rigorous formal education will be a big predictor of performance.

I love how you didn't address my point. But here - I'll address yours. They are also some of the most reliably measurable things in social psychology. Um . . . That's not really saying much. "If you just think about it a little" not very much in psychology is really all that measurable from a truly scientific methodology. Oh, and I never said they were fanciful concepts. The real truth tho is that we don't have intelligence figured out at all. You can't take a person born and raised in the hills and give them an IQ test and expect the results to be the same as if he/she'd been raised in a highly rigorous and stimulating academic environment. That proves that IQ tests a load of bull. Fancy words like fluid and crystalized cannot compensate for this and the modern brand of "psychologists" that propagate this nonsense should be ashamed of themselves.

I think if there is an explanation for how choosy women are (if indeed this is true) has to do with culture rather than biology. Women have been told how awesome they are just for being women for the last 40 years. They think they deserve the best because society has told them that a modern woman does not need to settle. I'm not trying to hate on women, I'm critiquing an aspect of our current culture.

No, naw man, I'm not the one thinking about killing babies. You are. Women can have multiple babies by multiple fathers in a 10 year span. And they do. And it doesn't go against any "hardwiring" that you claim they have. So much misinformation in this comment of yours jeez. Gross oversimplification. First of all the way you're using hardwired is overstepping. Hardwired in this context means "compelled". Hormones don't control our actions so completely and neither does a single behavioral drive s…

What you're saying is false. Women can have multiple babies in 10 years. They didn't evolve to have one baby every ten years therefore that's not a factor in their mating instincts. Don't make shit up.
/r/MensRights28/06/18 07:26 PM

sigh . . . . no, there is no redefinition. There is a pretend definition that is the "dictionary" definition that no one ever uses, and there is the thing that people actually mean when they say the word. I'm not redefining anything. The other guy was pretending that people don't mean what they mean and hiding behind technical definition. I was exposing that behavior, not redefining a word. Get it yet?
/r/MensRights28/06/18 08:07 AM

Naw, it is extremely common for common usage definitions to diverge from the technical definitions. All I am doing is explaining that phenomenon - not making it up.

this is toxic masculinity Naw, what you describe is ignorance due to contemporary cultural mores. That's not masculinity.
/r/MensRights28/06/18 05:05 AM

Except that both men and women can do both of those things. Perhaps our culture is less tolerant of that, but the fact remains that the actions you mention are not limited by gender. Which proves my point.
/r/MensRights28/06/18 12:48 AM
7

It sounds so nice when you put it like that. But the truth is, it also implicitly states that there is something wrong with masculinity. Women have had 40 years of "everything about women is great, natural and awesome". Everything bad about women is the fault of her individual socialization, our culture, or some other external cause. At best we get "she's a shitty person" and no time do we ever get "she's shitty because of this thing that's wrong with femininity". You can't redefine words to sui…
/r/MensRights27/06/18 11:58 PM

There is no toxic anything. There are only flawed individuals and, as humans, we are all flawed individuals. No assault on gender is ok or even useful in my opinion. Especially because, for any specific individual fault, to refer to it by the gender of the person is to take us a level of abstraction away from the thing itself. Let's just call actions what they are and leave gender out of it.

You can't redefine words to suit yourself. Toxic masculinity, while technically not referring to all masculinity, has become a defacto assault on everything male. This is evident in the ubiquitous usage of the word as well as in the implication of the word. That implication is that if there is a fault in a man, it has to do with his gender. By the definition of toxic masculinity, if a man is a bad person, it's because of his toxic masculinity. That is, it is intrinsically about his male-ness tha…

a noteworthy omission is the exclusion of child homicide by one of the parents/guardians which last year had an estimated ratio of female to male perpetrators of 21:1 Holy shit. That's a crazy number. So unbalanced and it's several times larger than the discrepancy they are reporting. What I mean is that they report the male to female partner murder as 4:1 which makes men look more murderous (even though that number is heavily manipulated). Yea, right? Nothing in the study monitored or even tried to project behavior outside of the lab. I absolutely hate it when scientists do that kind of thing. In the conclusion of a published study, or subsequent discussion of the study, there is no place for any kind of comment out of context of the parameters of the study. "No evidence that feminists behave more negatively towards men outside of a psychology lab"

women had less freedom I'm really not sure this is true. Very few men throughout history have had any agency or sense of ownership in their lives. We definitely can't judge a whole gender by the privilege of the elite. The wealth disparity in the world is at an all-time low and yet it's still mind-bogglingly large. Today everyone talks about the 1%. It's a mistake. The 1% is 1 in 100. In the US that's 3.3 million Americans. The real elite are 1 in 10,000. That's the billionaire class. The people…

In the movie a giant mega corporation has the cure to a disease ravaging mankind but doesn't want to release it because they make more money managing the illness than they would curing it. Similarly, allowing boys to get cancer and treating them for it is more lucrative than supplying a vaccine that would prevent this type of cancer.

I agree it's a terrible title the intent of which does not represent men's rights on the whole and can be used by others to justify the bad name the movement gets. Pretty sloppy OP.

Its funny how she kept trying to trap him into saying something super sexist. She didn't want to engage with him. She tried really hard to maneuver him into saying something shitty so she can destroy his reputation instead of combating his arguments. Lol. Rather than listening to what he's saying, she's engaging in exactly the bullying methods he's describing women engaging in. Really fucking funny.

So he says the problem with most of the legal arguments against circumcision is that it requires a burden of proof which is difficult. Why is it so easy for the world to accept these arguments for fgm and not mgm? Ugh. we wanna claim it's child abuse - we all know it is - but then we have to prove it's not medicine Pretty sure that's already been proven. Fucking doctors and surgeons. I wish people would engage with you instead of just downvoting you. I think you're mistaken about the way things work. The whole reason you have trouble with self control is because you don't have the sensory input you're supposed to have so your body can only understand one thing: sex is happening -> time to cum. Sex isn't supposed to be that binary. Proper timing of ejaculation can actually increase chances of conception and this correlates with "her" orgasm. Coming together isn't just a wonde…

It doesn't work that way. If you do the same job for 40 years your brain solidifies. It ceases to have to learn new things very early on and you spend decades losing plasticity. Your brain needs to be stimulated by learning new things. WORK DOES NOT DO THAT. Even jobs which require "problem solving" because it happens in such a limited body of knowledge. It's the problem with specialization. Our brains weren't built for it. Same thing if you exercise but only do something very limited like cycli…

an amount of man-hating Lets try some more accurate language. How about "a predominance of man-hating"? your autism would have likely gone undiagnosed and dismissed because autism manifests slightly differently in men than in women It manifests differently yes. But women and girls get much more organic support and attention from those around them their entire lives and likely don't develop the same total isolationist personalities that boys with autism do. That is, girls are likely to go undiagn…

The tissues removed have a lot of nerve endings. You simply cannot removed highly innervated sensory tissue and have no loss of sensitivity. I don't care what scientific studies say otherwise. There are also "scientific studies" that "prove" smoking tobacco doesn't give you cancer. Studies can be manipulated and there are very powerful organizations who have a serious financial interest in keeping circumcision the default. If a study contradicts irrefutable reasoning then the study is wrong. You…

Hah. Good try. But no. This class is still a philosophy course. And just like any philosophy course, even though the subject matter of an individual course may be narrowed to study the work of a specific philosopher, such as Thomas Nagel, it's imperative, for learning and full comprehension of the material, to "then spend much of the class exposing any weaknesses that Nagel’s argument might have.” This is even the case for history-of-philosophy courses. Students learn the prominent arguments mad…

Other than recording every interaction with the accuser (as others have mentioned), tell your family member you believe them. This might be the most important thing for them right now. A wave is sweeping our country and a lot of that wave is justified. But hysteria is still scary and it is very scary how easily one can have their life ruined by an accusation. Many times it's not even about jail time. It's about the social and person damage it does to the falsely accused. Tell him you believe him…

The people supporting this movement of mensrights are starting to seem pretty backwards to me If you generalize like that about any group of people, you can make them and their cause sound ridiculous. How about you keep an open mind about each individual as you encounter them? They definitely don't all talk like that. Get the fuck out with that attitude. There are some serious gender issues/disparities/inequalities that our society is wrestling with. But being actually sexist is not going to help. I agree that our current culture has bred a lot of women that are extremely entitled, selfish, don't take responsibility for their actions, don't need to work as hard etc etc. But I do know good women. They exist.

Look man, gay jokes are out of line. They aren't a necessary part of men interacting with eachother. But that is because it may hurt the feelings of gay men and more importantly affect the growth and development of young gay men/boys. Ego has nothing to do with it. That was my only point. By saying the solution is to let go of our ego you are demonstrating the mistaken belief that the problem is the ego. Or did you simply mis-communicate?

Funny how very little advance has been made in that time and how the field is suffering a massive reproducibility crisis . . . It is really crazy to me that circumcision is still a thing and that the majority of men and women don't see or understand it as a problem - even in terms of individual rights to make decisions about one's own body. Beyond the barbaric nature of the surgery and what it does to the body, women are all about the agency to choose things for themselves . . . I thought women were supposed to be more nurturing, more naturally empathetic; you'd think they could understand this issue :(
