I think that that sort of terminology arises where there are communities of people with a common condition, and is related to group identity, a label to apply to them rather than us. What's going here?I concede that transsexuals are a much smaller minority which is why there's no usual term for non-transsexuals, but the term is still relevant when discussing them. As for 'suffering from a major illness', I'd say that the causes of homosexuality and transsexuality are in all likelihood quite similar because current research tends to point to neurological abnormalities causing both. | 6 | Cisgender? What's going here?The word 'normal' is not ideal for describing the concept because of how imprecise and general it is. You'd have to keep saying 'normal gender identity'. Being gay is 'not normal' in the same sense, but we still have a use for the word 'straight' colloquially and 'heterosexual' formally.
