If this were the case, what would be the point of trp?

And look at those jaws. People do have different starting points, life is not fair. The point is to make the most with what you have. If lying to yourself is what it takes to get you started on the path of self improvement, by all means go ahead. But don’t judge those who complain, and don’t be too fast in feeling superior to them. It’s a long road, for some it’s longer. Some sit down. Some others walk slowly. Adjust your pace to your needs and keep going.

You worked this out backwards from the odds or is this some independent statistic of the sub?

I am just saying that in a field of study that is pretty far removed from the hard sciences there may be widespread disagreement between sources. Not that there is none in the hard sciences. By the way I am not even denying that there is systemic racism. In my opinion there definitely is. But SJWs are not working to remove it, they are just using it as a building block for their twisted ideology. This is very similar (but with opposite sign) to scientific racists touting significant differences …

He probably worries that he can be de-anonymized. Depending on post history this may be feasible and have real world consequences.

Maybe he doesn’t get his evidence from the wapo? Anyway criminology is a shitshow of replication failures, so there’s that.

It’s all commonsense for you (unless you are lying). It’s not for people who are actively trying to improve themselves. This is like having a native speaker of a language and a person who is learning it as a second language. To the native speaker it’s all obvious, just open your mouth and talk. What’s the big deal? But the other person needs a grammar book and a dictionary.

It’s quite the hypocritical piece of advice. Being yourself works if you are already attractive. It’s like telling a woman to wear no makeup. Works if she is hot already, but unless she has perfect skin, makeup helps. The only part of ‘just be yourself’ that is good advice is that you should not look like you are trying too hard. Don’t look fake. Put in some work into improving yourself first (lose weight, dress better, act more confident) and then be yourself.

I was just asking a question. This is a real issue in many settings btw, like evaluating a job candidate

I wonder where you draw the line between a disability and being unfit for service without being really disabled.

I think this is context dependent. In the right conditions you would. Being intimidating is not enough in most situations as you need some real skills or status to back it up, but in the context he works in (face to face sales) it probably works. So it works for him. You would simply not meet him because you probably are from a different context/milieu.

He would be less intimidating but would inspire more trust. Which would be better long term IMO. But you play the cards you are dealt

His point is exactly that being tall takes you only so far. It can be very far, granted. But there is a world of difference between ‘this guy could beat me up’ and ‘hey I should follow this guy rather than fight him’. The difference between a CEO and a random street thug, after you factor in other variables (education, social status, money...).

I have mixed feelings on this. You are looking people straight in the eye and you feel you are intimidating. It is certainly a good thing to be able to do that when you need to, especially if you have the physique to back it up. But you should come across as calmly dominant, not aggressive. There is a difference, and it makes a difference in getting you laid. TL;DR scaring people is easy if you look aggressive but it is not really what you want most of the time.

I mean if only the 30 yr old lowered her standards a bit she would find hordes of men who want a relationship. And possibly even the 35yr old one. What was the 70yr old thinking when she divorced at 50 though?

Significance takes care of this, if computed properly. If you are testing thousands of possible correlations you should apply a large Bonferroni correction, thus accepting only extremely low p-values as significant.

Gianluca Vacchi got his millions from his family, not by saving though. I guess he is a role model about how to spend that money to get laid the most even after your prime, but not really one for sound financial decisions.

I do not think OP’s post was complaining. Stating facts about general trends, even while you are working hard to be the exception to those trends is not complaining. Yours is a very fragile positivity if it depends on shutting down each and every message that may acknowledge some negative facts.

I see where you are coming from, but this is simplistic. The psychological need to focus on this one’s own individual challenges in a positive way should not negate the ability to discuss societal issues with honesty and equanimity.
