Getting old is certainly better than the alternative. That’s the philosophy I’ve embraced lol. Keep up with your health, including wearing sunscreen. It’s personal preference whether you want to go beyond that. I use Differin and hair dye to look younger (I’m 37). Haven’t done Botox or chemical peels or anything more intense, but I might if I started to look significantly older than my peers or my husband.

The women I know who married conventionally attractive men are at least as happy as the women I know who married average/ugly men. That said, it’s hard to really know for any couple as an outsider to the marriage, and I know a few of marriages of each type that went bust. (Also, as a side note, a couple of the attractive ones are more average now after losing some hair, gaining a gut, etc.)

Stranding a girl you know alone at a closed small town bar with no Uber is a pretty different scenario than saying no to a stranger or someone trying to get a ride when there are other options available.

He doesn’t respect you enough to talk to you about your concerns for the future. That doesn’t sound like a healthy relationship to me. I’d force a serious conversation and have him answer you point blank when he plans to propose. If he has zero plans after seven years, knowing you want to get married, don’t waste anymore time on him.

Who would want to be married to a man who didn’t support their hobbies? At the very least, I’d hope my husband cared about my interests and wanted me to be happy. Sure, if a hobby is taking over your life or interfering with being a good parent, that’s no good, but it’s the same thing as men cutting down on golf or video games or whatever once they have kids.

Just wanted to say don’t be too hard on yourselves. You’re still in the trenches with a young child. A regularly scheduled date night (or at least some time when you don’t have to be parents first) may help get you back. Also a lot of people like the book Come As You Are.

Nah, call me old-fashioned, but I don’t support prostitution. People on Reddit are used to wealthy Only Fans models who can pick and choose so it seems like an even playing field. Most prostitutes would not choose to be prostitutes if they had other options and are subject to a lot of health and safety risks.

Marrying a Japanese woman is a lot different than hiring a prostitute lol

This would be enough for me to move on. If it’s not cheating (and DM-ing girls etc. is in my book), then it’s certainly disrespectful to your relationship. You’re still young and have only wasted 4 months. Don’t make it 4 years.

Regarding the dress and makeup—it is possible you think you look weird because you are not used to a feminine look and may become more accustomed to it over time. If it’s more than that, you could get your makeup professionally done and work with a stylist to come up with a few outfits. If that’s not in the budget, enlist a friend to help with a makeover and styling choices. If that’s not an option, there are plenty of subs here that can give advice on feminine makeup and clothes. “Feminine” doe…

I have two hot girl friends married to short guys. One guy is a doctor, but the other just has a decent job (probably to six figures now but below that when they got married) and is socially well-connected.

I never hear stuff like that except on this sub. The men in my life and social circles are not deadbeats though (nor are the women).

Some days it’s awful. Some days it’s nice. This sounds like it will be a huge change for your family though. Do you have a job lined up already? Will both your children be going to daycare/school now? You might want to sit down with your husband and discuss what your net pay will actually be with childcare costs.

Some ideas: Professional organizer (homes or businesses) Administrative or personal assistant (administrative may be better if you’re looking to meet people at your job) Healthcare (many possibilities at different education and certification levels) My friends who worked then became SAHMs had these jobs: teacher, nurse, lawyer, school counselor, PA, and consultant. My friends who work part time as moms have these jobs: real estate agent, administrative assistant, lawyer, legislative aid, and art…

I knew of a couple girls who had some guys on rotation in college. Don’t know any guys who did, but they probably just didn’t tell me. Personally I think the “on rotation” thing is kind of gross.

Not who you asked, but they’re quick, easy, formulaic, and have a guaranteed happy ending. Romance books are like the junk food of literature lol There has to be some flaw with the romantic interest (bad boy, wounded soul, etc.), or there would be no plot at all—they’d just meet and live happily ever after, the end.

I’d guess this is not a view most women have. I know very few women with outdoor hobbies besides working out. I live in a city though so maybe that’s one factor.

But then the unattractive couples would be a match not a mismatch—unless only super attractive people can be in relationships lol

Besides therapy, I’d suggest “fake it until you make it.” Come up with a list of actionable tasks. (Try to be as objective as possible and remove any emotion.) Would being more physically attractive make you more confident? Make a plan for your fitness, makeup, clothes, or whatever would make you feel good about your looks. Signing up for some personal training sessions could help you be more comfortable in the gym. Would having more friends make you more confident? Take steps to strengthen exis…

This is pretty much me too. LDR but liked to go out with girl friends during college and law school. We would go to some frat parties (we loved a good costume theme) and bars when we were old enough, but most of us had zero interest in meeting guys or the hook up scene. We’re all married with kids now but still get everyone together about once a year to do the same stuff—hang out, laugh, drink, and dance—but usually that’s all at whatever house we rent for the weekend.

It’s a fun thing for kids in the US—dress in red, exchange valentines with candy, maybe get a class party. The adults who live for Valentine’s Day are the same ones who make a huge deal over their birthday.

Yes, this one is my favorite. I’m a late 30s married woman, and I don’t have many eligible single male friends to set up with girlfriends anymore, but I had a ton in my 20s and early 30s. ETA: I think the top comment had a ton of great ideas, but I’ll also add Monday night at the grocery store near me is single guy central. Maybe go then and strike up a convo in the check out line haha

Growing up, i remember body positivity originally being about people with disabilities or medical conditions that placed them outside of conventional beauty norms. I agree that it’s kind of turned into only fat positive, but its roots were well-intentioned.

I’d get him on your team. Have him teach you his methods and preferences for his home. If those work for you, adopt them when you move in. If not, work out a compromise—like maybe some short-term mess is okay (like disorganized belongings for a day or two) but filth is not (no dirty dishes out or food messes).

I’d add to those: r/CICO and r/weightlossadvice - ultimately you have to choose to get healthy for yourself and find what works for you. Good luck! You can do it!

I agree to some extent. There’s got to be some baseline though. You aren’t respecting yourself or your SO by living in filth.

Usually people gain confidence by getting a few “wins” in their pocket. If that’s not happening for your right now, find a new job or find another area where you can work hard and reach a new level of achievement.

Have you read any posts on this sub? It’s definitely not the same thing as the men’s sub. Not saying the men’s should be banned (not sure what happened), it just has nothing to do with this sub.

Vitamin D for pretty much everyone, and a lot of people see benefits from magnesium. If I’m trying to avoid getting sick/recover quickly, I do zinc and Liposomal C. If you feel the need, you could try out some daily multis and probiotics to see what you like. IMO it’s better to eat healthy foods for that type of nutrition, but some weeks that doesn’t work out so well lol

Honestly being trapped watching football for hours sounds like my worst nightmare. If I had to sit there on the couch I’d probably: play with the kids, fold laundry, go through mail, catch up on emails, play on my phone, do my nails, work on a sudoku or word puzzle, do something for my kids’ school, pay bills, etc. Most of those aren’t exactly hobbies but they would keep me from dying of boredom, and some would knock items off my to-do list.

There’s at least one outlet if the refrigerator is plugged in out there. Check to see what type it is and if you could add an extension cord or something to make the outlet usable for a heater as well. If not, have an electrician give you a quote for putting in another outlet. Or designate a coat and boots just for going to that patio area and make do for the winter months.
