It sounds easy enough, but I really REALLY don't want to work another 10 years. Atm i can save because i live with family in a small flat so rent is minimal. But if things change I may be able to save even less

Another poster mentioned this but at the moment that's impossible for me because of my work history.

How not if I'm in the UK and I've worked before? See I can't claim jobseekers allowance because they realise that its strange for someone with my skill set to not be employed (not trying to sound big headed).

Thats the dream but the how really stumps me. Especially the starting point. Your second point makes a lot of sense

The only thing keeping me going is dreaming about a way out of the matrix.

I feel trapped and the way society is set up really brings me down. I want to not live in this world but I'm not suicidal, if that makes sense.

I've always played it safe and up and until 2016 life was ok (finished education). As soon as I left education i gained massive doses of red pill. Always lived at home, its very difficult for someone with my mentality to just make a radical change.

Really insightful post. That stubborn female manager wasting over half a million... I have no problem believing you. Thanks for sharing this. The PhDs I would be applying for are fully funded ones. As it stands, I'm living with family so I'm spending very little on rent, bills etc; food is taken care of, laundry gets done, really I should have no excuses. People with far less have achieved far more. At this stage in my life I want to be doing something I'm passionate about, pay isn't a significa…

I actually mean more freedom after getting the PhD, not so much during. I'm wondering if its worth it over the long term.

Political progression is something I simply cannot tolerate. I'm looking for progression based on merit. I'm no scientific savant, but have a dogged attitude towards learning; I spend stupid amounts of time experimenting and trying to understand processes and why things go wrong. Those stats about your the numbers of your class are interesting. If this is a dying field, a PhD may not be worth it as it doesn't guarantee anything. The worst situation I can see myself is doing a PhD that I lose pas…

Beautifully put. But what are my options? I don't possess a solid enough understanding of fields outside of science. I'm 24 soon, I feel so lost, and a little hopeless

That feeling of discovery after finding a result of significance is... congrats on the publication btw. Are you referring to the book the last man?

Honestly this breaks my heart. I really feel that I have something to offer to the field. I've invested a little in crypto (5% of my worth).

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
