It sucks but you kind of have to just get used to it, and become at peace with it Of course that doesn't mean you should stop improving what you can but you should get to the stage where you don't really care about it anymore. That just comes with doing the things that your mind is trying to tell you you shouldn't do, or you wouldn't enjoy, and doing them often. No real easy or quick fix, the whole thing of not giving a fuck that's so often preached about on here isn't something that you can sud…

You're right, I definitely have. It's just starting to sink in. All last summer I was envisioning myself as being more outspoken, assertive, a leader... And somewhere in my mind this year I just subconsciously gave in and let myself get dragged along. I do hold out some small bit of hope that I can salvage the situation at least a bit, just start giving less fucks what they think and see how I feel. I like them too much to just cut them out. As soon as I'm free from college though I'll use the t…

Thanks, I'll think about this.

Reason I'd wait until next year is because my chances of making new friends before the year ends are very limited. I'll be leaving the college in three weeks, and between then and now all that's happening are lectures. Plus it's probably worth mentioning that we (myself and the guys in question) are talking about renting a flat together next year... Unless that doesn't happen I think I'm pretty stuck. I could always back out and say it won't work, but that's a pretty big decision and I'd have to…

Shit man you make a good point but I can't exactly just drop out of the group. I fucked up by making them my closest friends at the start of the year, and I don't know anyone else well enough to suddenly start hanging out with them. Maybe I have the wrong impression thinking that I should be seeking to hang out with the people who seem "cool" above the people I'd be more comfortable with. I guess the best I can take from this is to definitely expand my social circle next year when clubs and soci…

Lots of anger in the post I don't blame her for asking you to say it in front of her friends. It's not "disrespectful" she's just being normal. Sounds like you expect her to just obey you even though you admit to having been her orbiter... Taking her away from her friends would just make it really weird. You're just asking her out, not hooking up there and then. She doesn't deserve any shitty treatment just because she wouldn't leave her friends. Chill out a bit and realise she did nothing wrong…

First cut down on one thing for a week, then cut it out Continue weekly. If you try do everything at once you'll just relapse. No need to cut out video games completely. Every guy I know who's good with girls also loves playing FIFA or something else. They're good when you're bored, as long as you don't get addicted. Everyone needs something like that and it would wear you out spending every waking moment doing some sort of self improvement shit Once you've started something, don't let your mind…

IMO it depends which is more important to you at the time; bonding with friends / co-workers or going to the gym If you're already good friends with them then yeah it's no issue, if not I'd always go with the friends If I had gone to the gym instead of going out with my friends too often I probably wouldn't have any friends left.

Thanks, good advice. I get what you're saying. Funnily the people I'm most friendly with are on the opposite side of campus, only met them by chance, I'm not really that close with my flatmates. I'm a bit lost on ideas myself so maybe you have some suggestions on how / where to meet people? Hope you don't think I'm being close - minded by asking, I've thought about it a lot and it seems like the best opportunities were early in the year, when societies and things were just starting out. Feels li…

I'm able to do that, but as you said yourself, it's entirely uninteresting. It's not about judging people, and it's not about tastes either. Some of my closest friends have extremely basic tastes. It's just that I find it nigh on impossible to make friends that don't have some sort of common interest with me, particularly sense of humour; it's painful. I just can't laugh about that shit, and I don't want to make myself just to please others, it seems weak. Keep in mind I'm in college so the aver…

Does that not limit your ability to become an alpha? If you don't get on with most normal people? Not a personal shot at you in any way, but I feel like asktrp is a bit of a hivemind for people looking for advice. Would you say you've actually made it?

Yeah I mean I could say the same but I don't like to call people idiots for what they like, it's just the norm these days. Used to annoy me but I don't mind it any more, just makes things a bit harder for talking to people

Not what I'm saying. The true self is just put on hold when socialising. I'm sure there are some extreme cases but being a high self monitor is nothing more than a personality trait. I'm pretty confident and have high self esteem. Personally, it's more the type of people that make me go into auto mode. If they act in a way that doesn't really interest / stimulate me I can just end up saying basic responses. Luckily I'm confident that that can be changed with effort. I'm not criticising you perso…

Being "stuck in your head" is known as being someone with a high tendency to self - monitor. High self - monitors are basically social chameleons; they naturally act the way they feel that they "should", when around others. If you're a low self - monitor, you'll say what's on your mind, and do what you want, and that will come naturally to you. Reason I explain that is because, as a high self - monitor, "being yourself" around others won't be natural -- at least not at the start. I think people …
