Not sure on primates, James, but in both, Lions and Lobsters, the rape is comited by the gammas. The female only mates with the alpha (and in those species the females are more than cappable of self reliance for survival). So at least in those two cases, only gammas and omegas (not even betas) rape. In the case of lobsters rape is also almost impossible due to de-shelling required to mate.
