This shouldnt be seen as a thing putting men down, but a step in the right direction for prison reform. Yes progress moves slowly and it can be frustrating when ground isn't covered equally, but this is still progress, not the end goal and shouldn't be seen as the proverbial door being shut.

Because it makes them boring. If you can't relate to the main character's struggles in some way, how are you going to care? The reason for Spider-man's huge success was he was one of the first comic book super heroes (and not just a sidekick) that was like the reader, a nerd who had to deal with school, bullies and the trouble with growing up.
