Who told you her business would be a marital asset? I put my business in my wife’s name at its inception and I learned quickly when she called for divorce that it isn’t a marital asset and she used that to her advantage every step of the way. Lawyer up. You can have a lawyer and still be civil but you need someone protecting your interests when you don’t have the energy to keep fighting. She’s not your partner anymore. While you both may want a fair outcome, getting to fair is a very contentious…

There is a child in the mix here. Personality disorder or not, do not hand wave this.

The day the two of you chose to divorce is the day the "tap" should have been turned off. You should already have an attorney and they should be writing an interim financial agreement written and agreed to by both you and her. This financial agreement sets the ground rules for how you and your STBXW are allowed to spend money while going through the divorce process.

You need to be VERY Intentional any time you have to communicate. If she is manipulative, she will very likely be looking to trigger you for one selfish reason or another. Because you say she is described as uncooperative and hostile you need to be ready for the long game. Treat every interaction like it's being recorded, because it very possibly is. Do not let her drag you into a fight where you WILL say/do something you'll regret. Quick tips: 1) Get an attorney now and get the retainer paid. (…

They didn't love bomb you. They were supportive and reassured you. Love bombing is a manipulation tactic. Your kids just love their dad. Kudos to you for having such a strong relationship with your kids.

$480 per hour for my divorce attorney. $450 per hour for my business attorney. (Specially hired for the divorce) So far I'm at $15k (div att) + $2.5k. (biz att) She's at like $7.5k for her divorce attorney. Not sure of the rate. STBXW just filed, so we are just starting discovery. Other than a temporary financial agreement to cover an apartment, we are just getting this party started. I'm thinking I'll easily hit $50k before it's over. Good luck everybody!

The grass is 100% greener for you. No more bad relationship for you. It gets harder before it gets easy, but it will get easier. Pedal to the floor. Don't let up until it's done. Push your attorney to get it done.

Pin this. Everybody coming here for the first time should immediately be greeted by this post. It takes time, but as long as everyone operates with purpose you will make it! Allowing drugs or alcohol to mask your pain is letting your stbx win. Don't do it. Operate with purpose. Be present and focused on the opportunity you now have to go make life what you want again.

Try to cut yourself a little slack. You definitely aren't a quitter if you hung in there for years after wanting to move on. If anything, she did you a favor by taking the choice away and giving you a chance at a better future. (Don't thank her. She sucks. But you don't, so let's get this party started.) Today is the first day of a much better life. No kids, no alimony, no problems. Congrats on your fresh start brother. We are here for you if you need backup. Don't hesitate to reach out. I'm goi…
