The rule is it takes three tries to cement a breakup. Gotta man-up and end it after the first try. Then you need a cooling off period of approximately 1.5-3 months of no contact. Only then should you attempt to be friends again. But that is after a relationship, the op was talking about casual relationships; try your best to keep it casual. If they are growing that attached, you're not keeping it casual enough; stop being so damn attractive.
