I don't know in which city you are, so I can't really give exact venue suggestion, but I every town there different clubs, some are to chill with friends, some to hookup. So far it sounds that you're going alone to a venue where everyone is with their friends and trying to fuck some girl from the mixed group, which barely ever works

When I'm reading this, I can barely imagine that you didn't make anything happen. Only moving forward that happened was her initiative, but even then you didn't make it happen. For the future, if girl stays with you inside the pool for 4 hours she is into you, if she invites you to go somewhere, she is into you. Especially a foreigner on a trip. Its hard to imagine that you fucked up such a clear win

Actually this are pretty good results, many guys would be jealous of that. That the 2 girls are bff's is actually not that crazy, I encountered it a lot, even in cities with over half million inhabitants it seems that many girls me or my friends are dating, do know each other. First this seemed pretty random, but then we started to realise, same girls are into same kind of guys, so it doesn't seem so random anymore

Sounds like you are scary of something that you have never truly done before. The idea might be scary, especially in public, but its way easier than you think if you actually start doing it. It will take you some days to get used to it, but after this rough initial stage it will get easier, especially if you approach in a smart way

Nowadays I think majority of people prefers texting over calling; calling is so 2005. If she was replying to your messages, that seems as a good sign; but you didn't tell us what you were texting about, how did you met and how did you tried to setup the date. Major mistakes might have been there. Currently there is not enough data to actually understand what happened.

Yeah nowadays prime years for men are getting prolonged, even men in late 30ies can be attractive to 20 year old girls, while a 20 year old guy would never be truly attracted to a 40 year old women. He might want to experience some milf, but definitely not have a relationship with her

Teenagers don't have experience, so once you meet them they keep falling in love with everyone who seems at least somewhat cool. 35+ women are way over their prime and having FOMO of never sleeping with a young guy again and are afraid to get old. So they try hard to make something happen with you. I would say that starting even from 32+ women become very proactive, start asking for my number or Facebook and then constantly messaging about meeting up. But I personally not into 28+ women.
