Yes I know what subreddit I'm in but I think this goes too far. False accusations of a serious felony should be prosecuted but I don't think the punishment should be equivalent. I feel this would place too much of a burden upon actual victims of crime and could have too great of a stifling affect upon them speaking up. I don't want to see an overcorrection.

By your logic height does matter. People with higher quality diets as children end up taller. This is why we're all so much taller than people from 200 years ago. I think that humans think pretty highly of ourselves but honestly the animal instinct is very strong. What gets rewarded gets reinforced. What gets penalized is diminished. Yeah, and if you want to kill someone for attacking you I don't have any problem with it and would use jury nullification to defend you if we were in a state that doesn't allow you to properly defend yourself. Well, for example, in most states one is not allowed to use deadly force unless there is a reasonable expectation that they may themselves be a victim of deadly force or serious injury. I absolutely get where you're coming from but the fact is if you get in a fight, even if its not your fault, if the police aren't there to witness it themselves you very likely will end up in jail. It's not fair and it does fuck with your life but its frankly unavoidable. The best you can hope for is that in the end the right people will face charges. That's what happened in this case.

It's completely normal for everyone involved in a fight to go to jail until the police and prosecutors can figure out what they think happened. Is that fair? I guess not but what are the police to do? They didn't see what happened (initially) they just knew who was involved in the fight. In the end the correct people have been charged and will face far worse consequences than 4 nights in jail.
