Eek, tonal is supposed to be the hardest of all language features. I wonder what it is about Polish that makes it so hard. Linguists say Chinese and Polish are among the two hardest languages in the world. They measure this by how long it takes native learners to master the language. For english, it takes about 9 years, 9 year old kids are masters of english spoken grammar, no problem. For Chinese and Polish, it's 11 years.

Heh, my own particular fascination is with the great vowel shift, which I think few people are even aware of. How fast did it happen, why did it happen at all. Some think a large number of foreigners moving in learning the language caused it. Maybe so.

Sure, but isn't that itself an explanation of why english is weird, because it is this collocation of several languages, not a pure language in itself. As for why written english is so weird, it's largely because of the attempt for force Latin grammar and spelling rules on english a few hundred years ago. Ce la vie.

English is a ridiculous language. The crusade against words old-english inspired conjugations really annoys me. Not everything has to be -ed to be past tense. Old english was all about vowel substitution.

A lot of that rings quite true for me. Although I'm more affectionate in a relationship than your warning here, but that's probably just part of the range of attributes possible. I like to date artists and nerds with actual intelligence to them, yep. And yeah, I am very LTR oriented and have never cheated on a woman I was with. I've been at least a little into every woman I've been good friends with, ever. Some more than a little into.
