Sending people to jail for back alimony is one of the stupidest ideas ever conceived. Not only does it effectively reinstate the concept of a debtor's prison but it also renders the payer unable to work, which means the payee will continue to not get alimony anyways or, if they were simply behind but making payments, reduces the amount of alimony that was being paid in the first place.
