Bro there are over 700 comments on this thread lol My dead sister's birthday was this week and I had a lot of emotionally heavy shit to deal with. I'll get to your commentary, but given that this thread was one looking for suggestions and turned into an AMA on feminism, I'm gonna go ahead and wait until I'm back in a less volatile state of mind to do that. I have a job, SO, two kids, three foster kittens and one OG cat, two dogs, five chickens, a guinea pig, and a grieving family that are all hi…

Sudden downturn of physical wellness, cannot type without feeling ill. I promise I'm not dodging, just feeling super sick. If you're up for it, tag me again tomorrow. I should be okay by then. Or shoot me a PM and I'll get to it. Whatever you feel up to. Thanks for your patience.

Republicans, actually. We've had issues with legislators claiming that changing those laws will only make it easier for victims to cry rape when it wasn't, and to go on welfare because they're too "proud" to accept help from their rapists. It's...irritating.

That is definitely possible.

You know men could have women committed for virtually anything and could take their kids, their property, all of their money and divorce them without even telling them back then, right?

Ah I found you! Man I have so much shit to wade through. Gahhh Okay. First things first: I'm really, really sorry that happened to you, and I'm glad you survived that trauma. Now to the nitty gritty. I'm down for nearly everything you said, with a few factual errors. Prostate cancer and breast cancer have nearly the same death rate today, and those rates have decreased more for prostate cancer than for breast cancer by a pretty huge margin: https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm5939a6.htm …

Not all schools of feminist theory blame men. Mine don't. I really don't wanna keep answering for radfems lol, we agree on nearly nothing.

I totally agree. Not incoherent, and I did address this in another comment. Gender issues movements attract morons on both sides, but that doesn't mean that ALL of us are idiots who can't put two and two together.

Nope. I can link you to the FBI crime statistics page but you can also look yourself. White dudes are more likely to commit most crimes, and way more likely to actually kill a cop.

I have sex like that? Lol I have never just started fucking somebody, ever, without asking first. Like there must at least be a conversation about protection. I don't understand why consent is a controversial subject. Also, I don't think dirty jokes are assault lol. I love dirty jokes. I have told several on this thread. I don't wanna be kissed on the mouth by surprise though, tbh. Mouths are gross. What if you have cold sores? No thanks. A dude grabbed my ass at a concert and I laughed because …

I've been groped in multiple contexts. Most of em didn't make me afraid. Sometimes a little grossed out, but not afraid. I have been groped before as a warning ("You are mine and you can't leave,") and that's scarier. Other contexts I don't really wanna put into writing. NONE of it is acceptable, but no, it's not wrong not to be affected by it. It's just also not wrong if you are.

I 100% agree that you should be able to do that. For the record, the feminist group that I moderate has been ranting all day about TERFs and radfems shutting men and trans women out of that dialogue. If that happened to you, I'm really, really sorry. If you ever for some reason want a woman to hear you, I volunteer.

Nah I'm making fun of you a little bit because you're lying. If you started dating at like 15, 30 women by 21 would be five girlfriends per year. That's an average relationship time of no more than 2.5 months, if you took literally no breaks for six years. Nah, buddy. Ya haven't seen that much puss. Sorry. I already said that the wage gap between men and women in the same field as it exists today is really just the result of women demanding less money and taking more time away from work than men, so I mean, we agree. The racial wage gap is a much more significant issue. Marxist interpretations, sure. But Marx was an overall decent guy who abandoned most of his ideals for pragmatism in the end, so I feel like most of the damage done in the name of Marxism is similar to the damage done in the name o…

That's such a great question. I really liked The Feminine Mystique, because it truly doesn't place the blame on men. It focuses the female eye on female issues that women need to solve for themselves, as opposed to blaming men for all of our woes. I have also just done a lot of academic work in psychology, sociology, theology, and law, and all of those create a really clear blueprint for the situation we find ourselves in today, with regards to sex and society. No specific book there, but I had …

It's not the issues I've been dismissive of, it's more the individual groups like MRM. This experience has largely changed my perspective, but until today, I've just sort of seen men's rights as a responsibility of feminism, as I didn't see groups like this as serious enough to be effective.

Pussy, faggot, sissy, bitch, anything one does that is "like a girl," mama's boy, cunt, twat, calling men by women's names to mock them, fairy, queen, pansy, cocksucker. Literally all of those are terms used to either put down women or mock men for being too feminine, too much like women. Conversely, to compare or relate one to a man is generally a positive, or when used as an insult, it demonstrates inferiority compared to real men: Tomboy, real man, ball up, grow a pair, guy's guy, daddy's gir…

All of the cringe.

I do feel like the special privileges are often back handed. Like okay, we get more maternity leave, but that fact makes it harder to find certain jobs. If everyone got family leave at the same rates, the gamble for employers would even out. Just an example.

I prefer "teach kids about consent," personally. I distinctly remember a kid I went to school with having the crap kicked out of him by a girl in like fifth grade, and when he told on her, the playground aid laughed and said he should be nicer to girls. I am fully fucking aware that this is an issue. My daughter told me that she tackled a little boy at school and I was like two seconds away from calling his mother to arrange a meeting at which she would apologize to this kid, until she told me t…

I can get down with mean things all day. Mean doesn't bother me. But messaging me my exact physical address that he somehow got hold of, where my daughters live and sleep, with a vague threatening message attached? Yeah, that was startling. I totally agree with this. I would say that removing access to recess, hands on learning, vocational programs impact girls as well, though. I dare you to show me a six year old of any sex who doesn't need recess and gym and art class.

Okay briefly, since holy shit I have a lot of responses to write, I do agree that the increasingly narrow definitions of rape are fucking stupid. A feminist organization I am affiliated with here has been actively lobbying to change state laws to reflect more inclusive definitions of sexual assault, rape, and consent, for exactly that reason. We have successfully changed the definition of rape to include any sexual intercourse of any kind without consent. We have also changed the law so that rap…

I really don't see that feminism necessarily is actively opposed. I think that there are a number of feminists who suck at logic and reason, as there are a number of MRA who suck at the same. But again, I would rather repair the ship than abandon it.

Haha okay I catch your point there. I don't dismiss the issues, it's more the movement on its own. I agree with many of the points I've read here today, but I have avoided listening to those points because of the rabidly hateful nonsense I've heard screamed louder than the rational stuff. I'm sure you can relate that to your experience with rad fems!
/r/MensRights17/10/17 11:17 PM

No, but it is one that Christians actively try to force upon the world at large. That was the point there.

I'm really sorry you feel that way =( Do you have any specific issues you would like for us to pay more attention to, anything you want us to start or stop? Do differently? I just kinda feel like you're talking about radical feminism. The schools of feminist theory really are vastly different from one another. I haven't spent a lot of time looking into rad fem theory because, I mean, same reason I don't listen to Alex Jones? It's silly and inflammatory. But I can tell you, I moderate a decently large feminist community (not on reddit) and literally none of what you describe as unavoidably feminist is something any of us subscribe to or find tolerable. So, I don't r…

Okay, briefly, I disagree with that wikipedia definition of Marxist feminism. It's super reductive. While Marxist feminism does address the oppression of women in a capitalist society, the whole point is actually to do so in a fully symmetrical way with men. So to write off domestic work as "women's work" under Marxist feminist theory is incorrect. That article is trash. Onto compensation: Yes, food and shelter is a form of compensation. But they afford the recipient no economic freedom or mobil…

I mean, yes and no. I do think that women do a better job of advocating for women than men do of advocating for men, if that's what you mean?
/r/MensRights17/10/17 11:03 PM
1

Eh, it depends on how narrow your definitions of force and coercion are. I think that social and economic pressure absolutely qualify as coercion.
/r/MensRights17/10/17 11:02 PM
1

I actually agree with much of that. The Feminine Mystique addresses that issue, how women have done a great job of fucking each other and their children up for a long time. Betty Friedan's theory is that many women of her time had failed to develop personalities outside of their reproductive systems and so became predatory and/or a myriad of other types of dysfunctional.
/r/MensRights17/10/17 11:01 PM

That is pretty much true. I'll retract that. Many of us are genuinely making an effort to move in a more inclusive direction, though!

White people make up 69% of the population of the United States, but only account for less than half of all police shootings. So, proportionately, the individual person of color is more likely to be killed by police than the individual white person. In fact, the percentage of fatal shootings of black people by police is nearly double the percentage of black people in the country as a whole. The numbers don't improve when we control for unarmed fatalities; the number of unarmed black people kille…

No that's not what I mean. At all. If one parent is great and the other is an alcoholic. If one parent is mentally ill and the other is solid. If one parent has a history of child abuse and the other does not. If one parent actually likes their kids and the other would rather not, but wants 50/50 because they wanna screw their partner over. That's what I mean.

I'm sorry, I have an absurd number of people wanting responses. I don't know how to respond in a way that I haven't already, except that it's bullshit that you received that response and I would never personally respond that way. I'm not arguing semantics, though. You made a point that I found to be false, so I addressed it and then responded in agreement with your main point about abuse of male characters as acceptable.
/r/MensRights17/10/17 08:17 PM
1

Yeah, I have some some to do so it might be later but I can. I'm dealing with it right now in my custody crap; the only criteria for limiting parental access are sexual abuse of the children in question, repeated physical abuse of the children in question meaning one time isn't enough, a few other similar. The marital relationship isn't considered legally relevant. A friend whose ex tried to kill her got out recently and he gets visitation in his literal actual halfway house lol. It's nuts.
/r/MensRights17/10/17 08:11 PM
1

Ah okay. So first of all, there are way, WAY more stories with male protagonists than female ones. So idk what that's about. I do absolutely agree that the trend of abuse of men being presented as comedy is unacceptable. We don't keep any of that shit around in my house. We also don't want TV shows with the kids around where the dad is presented as an idiot and the mother as a control freak (looking at you, Modern Family.) I don't think we need FEWER female role models, but bettwr would be nice.
/r/MensRights17/10/17 08:03 PM

You know I tried to confirm that and all I found were rebuttals to that claim, saying that there is no such discriminatory ban on funding aid for male victims. Do you have a non MRM source you can show me?
/r/MensRights17/10/17 07:59 PM

I don't think a woman who has been raped by a black dude is gonna be all triggered over a black woman, so no. Lesbians are a complicated issue there and I really have no idea how to solve that one, but I'll say that for now, I think the risk of a false accusation against a lesbian woman is less likely to go anywhere than one against a straight man, because yes, sexism.

No, I mean LYNCHING by lynching. It's an actual thing the KKK did to people that to my knowledge, nobody has done to you. You, there ya go. I think you're comparing mole hills to mountains and saying that because they're both there and shaped kinda the same, they're equivalent. They just aren't. Lynching is not equal to being mean to innocent men accused of rape. Actually women are more likely to phsyically (but not sexually) abuse children, so that really should appeal to your side. Presumption of 50/50 gives custody to people who shouldn't have it. Rarely are both parents equally fit. On my end of the argument is the children of rape issue, whether rapists should have access to children they fathered without the consent of the mother. Of course the reverse should also be true, but it's so much harder to prove or disprove that it seems pointless to get …

It's not really extra power, either. It's a shitty trade that looks like power, like when you trade a kid one whole graham cracker for two quarter pieces. The kid thinks he's winning but nope. I do support equality. Mandating male and female shelters is equality. A male victim enters a shelter with lots of women, many of whom are traumatized and with heightened danger awareness. He bumps into one accidentally, she panics and says he groped her. She genuinely thinks he did, because the context triggered a PTSD flashback. Now what? DV shelters are not the normal world. There are different requirements needed for the safety of EVERYONE. Abandoning pragmatism in the name of fairness is no…

I see a TON of debate within feminism on that issue. My personal problem is with the standards for fit parenting. In my state, domestic violence against either the mother or the father is not considered relevant to fitness as a parent. I think the fear is that until we change some of those "best interest of the child" laws, abusive fathers (and mothers!) might end up with split custody. There's also the issue of parental rights for rapists who father or give birth to children as a result of rape…

I don't care about the pink tax Lol! I'm a poor feminist. I feel that my role is primarily that of an ally for more oppressed groups, but I would be lying if I said I wasn't still worried about issues like how I can pay for the birth control that is supposed to keep my pain and bleeding at bay. And men's issues affect me, too. Father figures are important to daughters, too; exposure to violence against those fathers affects girls, too; the assumption of sexual passivity that makes men more likel…

Well that's nonsense. Fame doesn't imply consensus, though. Rush Limbaugh is a "leader," Alex Jones is a "leader," but that doesn't mean they represent any kind of mainstream thinking. Or maybe they do and I'm being naive. I do see what you're saying, I just think that your example is hyperbolic to the point of losing its weight. Feminists are not the KKK. I really don't know, truly. This has been positive. I think the portion of feminists who are active on the internet represent a specific and exceptionally hostile demographic, so maybe not here. I didn't say it justifies sexism. I'm listing it as an example of a situation wherein I felt afraid, in response to your claim that women are not afraid of men. I'm not afraid of all men. I have the ability to discern danger within reason. But my experience with this specific demographic has been disproportionately shitty. SO, I am here to challenge my own prejudices. Mostly because people keep asking me to clarify, so I do. I'm not saying I'm not like all the other feminists. I'm saying that most feminists aren't like assholes on the internet. Radical feminism is a minority under the umbrella, they're just loud and annoying and generally shitty so they get more attention, much the way your group gets slapped with the reputation of a few dudes who say women deserve rape.
/r/MensRights17/10/17 06:54 PM

If I had a shelter for men who have been abused by women, I would say no women allowed. It would be potentially traumatic for the victims. It would put them at risk of false accusations by women in the shelter, many of whom are probably also traumatized and possibly experiencing a heightened sense of danger. This is basic common sense. When you argue against common sense, it weakens your other points.

I just don't think that's accurate. I do ask. I do initiate, and when I don't and I want to do something different, I ask. Like this doesn't seem at all strange to me. I don't get it. I'm not a passive recipient sexually. I feel like you're making assumptions about me as a woman that are neither accurate nor fair. Nope, sorry :/ I do have a lot of sex worker friends and did some online work briefly, but never got an flack for it. Well that's just hyperbolic nonsense. There are two guys in this thread who made lists of why they hate all or most women. I don't and neither does anyone I know, minus maybe one rad fem I know who is rocking some pretty wicked traumatic stuff. I think we need equal resources and shelters for male and female victims. I do see the value in segregating by sex in those specific areas, though, for the safety of both sexes.

I didn't give out my address online, David. I have no earthly idea how he knew it. No land line so I'm not listed in the phone book, either. It has occurred to me that he might have had access to my voter information, since I vote by mail. Either way, it happened. I'm not lying, and your opinion of that reality affects me in zero ways.

I think that's pretty broad, and you're assuming an awful lot about me. If you wanna go over the rest of these threads and come back with clearer understanding of where I'm coming from, that would probably be helpful. Or not. You don't owe me anything. But it won't help your movement to be abrasive to people with questions shrug

I think this thread has been AMAZING for that. I've seen the a big chunk of the full spectrum here, and if I had to pick a few things that meant the most to be and boil them down to bullet points, it would be these: When some of you were being trash cans, you downvoted them and reprimanded them for being counter productive, which tells me that they truly don't represent the norm. You asked questions, which I honestly didn't expect, and listened to the answers. It tells me that you actually want …

I would rather see both feminism and MRA thrive and work together. It's very okay to openly advocate for ourselves, as long as it's not at the expense of others.

Eh I think it's a little different. Feminism at its base is just equality of the sexes. Other stuff gets tacked on by different schools of thought. The most commonly heard ideas are the nonsense of the radical feminist movement, because they're louder and more active on the internet. I'm trying to change that because I'm sick of rad fems fucking everyone over.

Well that's not exactly true. Men still earn more in the same careers, but you're right, it does have a lot to do with hours worked and as I said, failure to negotiate effectively. It's not misogyny causing the problems, but gender roles definitely make it worse.

Okay so I skimmed over you comment and just want to point out where I agree: feminism has absolutely made an unfortunate shift toward elitist and exclusionary nonsense. I'm genuinely working hard to try to reverse that trend. Thank you so much for commenting here; super thoughtful contribution and I appreciate that. I'll try to look into your sources, but understand that I have literal hundreds to go through at this point lol

I mostly agree with that. For me, the value in the feminine title is tied to the stereotypes glued to the feminine. In women it makes us more easily dismissed, and in men it makes you targets of violence and criticism of both sides. What are your thoughts on the theory that respect for the feminine makes it safer to be both a man and a woman? Also, not one of my feminist friends knows I'm doing this. I will probably get a lot of shit. Only my partner knows, and he asked me not to do it; he was c…

I don't wanna eliminate the masculine AT ALL. Not even a little bit. I answered a lot of these issues in other comments so feel free to scroll around if you want, but I'll add that I do think that the pendulum is swinging toward violence against men. I have like three male friends right now whom I would consider to be in abusive relationships. Part of my being here is to acknowledge that shift and to pay attention and try to do better. I don't think abandoning feminism is necessary, but recalibr…

I actually largely agree, as it applies to sex. I keep saying that maternity leave is the worst thing that ever happened to working women. We need to be fighting AS FEMINISTS for all of those rights and privileges to be equally accessible to men. It makes me angry that fathers get less leave than mothers, not just because it's fucked up that we discount fathers and rob them and their babies of bonding time, but also because it forces onto women the burden of being the riskier hire. Honestly our …

Of course all lives matter, but responding to "black lives matter" with "all lives matter" reads to me as an implication that by saying black lives matter, one necessarily states that white lives don't. Again, I don't want to get into the race thing, and that's my bad for bringing that up. My point is that if I say, "Hey, I'm hurting, please help me," you're hopefully not going to respond by saying, "Um, actually I'm hurting too so fuck you." That's not at all how I feel most men who participate…

/r/MensRights17/10/17 05:14 PM

It actually isn't. The primary difference is really huge: Radical feminists believe that all men are responsible for the oppression of women. Socialist feminists believe that men and women are equally oppressed under our current social and economic system. One says you are bad, the other says we are equals.

Yes, actually, I do fucking ask. Always. Because I understand how physiology works and the reality that erections don't equal consent. No no, opposite. I see that's being misinterpreted so I for sure worded it poorly. I meant that broadly, in both directions. "Me, too," is NOT the same thing as, "Why isn't this about just ME?!" I have seen that behavior from men AND women and it pisses me off either way. I've seen women (most of my feminsit friends are very chill but I have one rad fem friend who does this shit - I know why, she was absolutely terrorized by men, in her life, but still I sigh) comment on men saying "Me, too" tha…

I'm so sorry that happened to you, Rex. I disagree that default should be 50/50. That shuffle is hard on kids. I think you should probably have just gotten custody. I will say that things are changing. In my state, your rights would be constitutionally guaranteed. Default is 50/50 here unless one parent is unfit or everyone agrees that a less hectic schedule is best for the kids, and then the schedule is determined based on the least disruptive system for the children. Okay, a lot of that is fair. I did phrase that intentionally broadly, so as to include my camp there as well. I didn't mean I hate it when YOU redirect, I meant I hate it when ANYONE redirects. I can see your criticism of intersectionalism as potentially valid, too. I'll be on the lookout for that. That is a good point. Some of us do genuinely try to triage and pay attention to when we need to shut up as white women. But also, I am not middle class lol. Getting there, but I am poor as shit.

I actually don't see women's issues as more important. It's funny, as we are discussing this, my feminist friends are all in a discussion in the comments section of an article on male victims of rape. It started after I opened this thread, pure coincidence but inspired by the same thing. The Me Too campaign and how we all feel that it should be more inclusive to dudes. I do, but I believe that it is primarily caused by the reality that women are less likely to demand higher starting wages and negotiate raises, etc. I do believe that that trend has a lot to do with the social pressure on women to be "agreeable" in the work place, and the fear of consequences if we are seen as "abrasive." But no, I don't think that most employers are intentionally paying women less out of spite of misogyny. Every employer pays the smallest wages their employees will tolerate. Wo…

A lot to go over here, I'll be brief and then hopefully come back later. "Unassign" is a typo. I'm doing this on my phone and I have giant fat fingers. I meant "misassign," as in assign blame to the wrong source. On patriarchy and the enemy of feminism: I see patriarchy as a symptom, not an enemy, and I don't see it as a system of purely masculine power. I absolutely agree that fair trials are super important. So is consent. When I talk to my daughters about consent, I ALWAYS do so from a position of addressing their responsibility to others. "You can never touch a person's body, or talk about a person's body, without asking. That's theirs, not yours." I want to give them the right to demand space, but also the responsibility to respect the space of others. That's not a gendered responsibility.

It is, and it isn't. I think that my feminism has helped me escape resentment by seeing people as people and not men and women, if that makes sense. I fail a lot, but I try a lot too. PTSD is hard, but doing things like this make it so easy to empathize, and that lessens the fear a lot.

I can see why it seems that way, for sure. It's actually a realization that my friends and I came to when one came forward asking for support after a rape. We were all sharing our experiences and realized that we had all been assaulted. Absolutely the degrees of severity varied (one girl had been groped while another had been sodomized, for example) but I don't think that only certain types of assault count any more than I think that it only counts if it's a woman being assaulted. I mean how much direct interaction have you had with Marxist feminists? Are you at all familiar with that school of thought? I would also say, for the record, that both Marxism and feminism are terms that have been coopted by angry or evil people publicly enough to affect public perception of the terms. I mean, I'm sorry you feel that way. I don't think I'm evil. I think policies that exploit men are as evil as those that oppress women. The body count for both of those sets of policies is pretty high. I can see that. Feminism is such a broad term that I don't really assume much about anyone who claims that broad title anymore. To clarify, socialist/Marxist feminism is a very specific school of feminist theory, very different from radical or liberal feminism. That's why I mentioned it by name. My goal is to hear MRA perspectives outside of an echo chamber and in a productive and non abusive context. That is all. :)

Just looking briefly at that thread, I think a huge part of the problem is the habit of raising girls like breakable things but letting boys roam. My daughters are allowed to fall down and say no and curse if they stub their toes. They don't get offended when a boy tackles them on the playground as long as they can tackle back. Basically, girls will change scouts unless we stop treating girls like invalids who can't take a joke.

Okay, well, I'll start by saying that I can feel your frustration there and I'm sorry this is such a complicated subject. Thank you for sticking it out with me, I really do appreciate it. I'll say that I do feel like generalizing feminists isn't more or less fair than generalizing MRA. I can see that perspective, and I think many so-called feminists don't really understand feminist theory well enough to know what they're talking about. Really though, to be fair, feminism is a blanket term for multiple specific schools of thought. Similar to Christianity. Baptists are not at all like Catholics, but they're both Christians by title. That actually makes a ton of sense and I appreciate that response. Thank you. Nothing much to add, except I don't really see a lot of value in gender exclusionary activities for children on either side. It seems odd to me to dictate childhood activities and interests based on genitals. What are your thoughts there?
/r/MensRights17/10/17 05:45 AM

I think those are equally important issues that are probably even strongly connected to one another. Do you see issues that affect men as more important than issues that primarily affect women? Are there issues that exclusively affect one or the other?
/r/MensRights17/10/17 05:41 AM
2

I'm really specifically looking for hopefully constructive criticism of (especially socialist) feminist ideology and our approach to issues that affect men. How can I address those issues better? What do men need from leftist women that we aren't doing or could be doing better? Where do men feel most abandoned/misunderstood/targeted? That kinda thing.

Sure! Issues like parenting and other domestic issues, and sexual and other types of violence are the first issues that spring to mind. Sort of the other side of the coin of the same feminist issues. "Women belong here and men belong there and neither has a choice." "Men are dominant and women are passive and whoever says otherwise is a liar."

I feel that. I largely agree. So why "men's" rights, then? So much of the language I see in this group seems like a simple inversion of radical feminist ideology - which I do not align with, btw.

I can see that. But with no definitions, how do we know where we start? I'm really just trying to explain my starting point without fighting too hard with auto correct on this phone :P

I'm actually not sure what you mean there, I'm sorry. Can you explain that a little more?

Thank you for that, Eric! Really well put questions and descriptions. I'm in the US so I can't speak for Australian women, but I have a ton of Aussie friends online and in person who I think would agree with me. I think the main motivator there is fear. I don't know any women who haven't been sexually assaulted, and even if they don't represent the majority in your movement, I have heard a lot of sexually violent commentary and even direct threats from men who identify as men's rights activists.…

That's a really great answer. Thank you. I noticed that you said women "had" legitimate complaints. Do you feel that modern women no longer do?

Okay, I can sorta see that. Is feminism a problem, from your perspective, because it is actively harmful on its own, or because it perpetuates damaging ideologies that exist independent of feminism?

Thank you so much for that awesome response. Again, I don't want to debate, so I'll just briefly say that I absolutely reject the schools of feminism that place blame on men and the masculine as the root of feminine oppression. Just to square that away. I would definitely like to hear about your personal experiences, but if you don't want to get into it now I can just snoop your username comments and track them down if that's easier and okay with you. I think the points about domestic and sexual…

I can't ask specifics without assuming your perspective, I think. I can't know what issues or behaviors are most important or offensive to you without starting out very broadly.

In my little circle of the world, those issues definitely come up a lot. I think you're right to say that we generally frame them in terms of how they impact us as women; I think it's human nature to think primarily about how we are impacted by a thing, but it's absolutely a fair criticism and a thing to work on. Thank you for that. It's a simple thing but something I've never consciously thought about. I do acknowledge that men are often discriminated against in our society, especially where ge…

I can actually see how you got that. When I say that I'm a feminist, I mean that I subscribe to a system of beliefs that generally falls in line with socialist feminism. It's a school of feminism that believes in the equality of sexes and rejects the idea of either masculine or feminine as superior or inferior, positive or negative. It also rejects the idea of men as the oppressors of women, and believes that both men and women are oppressed under a capitalist system that seeks to exploit both s…

Thank you so much for this response! I will check out that documentary. It sounds like a good place to start, but I've learned that there's no one source for individual perspectives. I don't want to apply one version of the movement to every person here, if that makes sense. On my dismissal: I don't feel that any of the issues that are brought up by the movement are worthy of dismissal on their own. I actually feel that you guys intersect with my views on most of them. My dismissal is more a pro…

Sorry guys, didn't expect a response this quick. Jumped in the shower and couldn't find my phone when I got back out. Gimme a second to read your comments and catch up. :)

That's fine and good, but I would like to hear multiple perspectives on the issue of feminism and how it fails to address issues that matter to men, and how I can personally help to reduce that problem. That's hard to accomplish in a FAQ section. You seem offended by my asking. Can I ask why?

Shrug :) I just enjoy checking in on the other side from time to time. I'm cool with being downvoted, just felt like pointing out the flaws in broad generalizations. I know your end of the spectrum disapproves when my end does the same.
