My ex dealt with his trauma with total emotional withdrawal- he was a person with an avoidant attachment style. This… isn’t helping him. Over the course of our relationship he revealed a lot of his trauma to me, and it struck me that he trusted me with it. But it’s not my family, and I can’t fix it, and I don’t want to be forced to play a role in that dynamic. I decided that I couldn’t let this be my problem.

Rule #1 of misogyny: women are responsible for men’s actions and need to be blamed when men mess up. This is a classic example of a man trying to project his shortcomings on to woman. And this particular woman isn’t even in his sphere of influence. Sad. (And he did the same thing to Taylor Swift.)

I have made this mistake a few times. One time it was because I was in a really low place and because I was desperate for connection. There is another guy that I got back together with where I did see significant, positive change in the right direction from the first round of dating to the second round. However, he still has significant issues to work out and it didn’t work out for lots of reasons. I think that this is atypical, though. It was the significant growth that I saw in this man that m…

Don’t let teens- literally children who have been indoctrinated into coolgirlness/pickmeism- influence how you go about being a HVW. “Blocking makes you look like you care” is a opinion that is rooted in inexperience, and that narrative exists to benefit men.

I’m between a 6-8 also, but 5’8. I like to shop at Banana Republic when I can afford it. Also Gap, Artizia, and for less formal stuff, American Eagle. When it comes to handbags, I’ve got some great Coach/Kate Spade stuff from Facebook Market. Sometimes thrift stores have some good quality, high end finds if you’re ok with putting in the work to find them and you don’t mind items that are gently used. It’s not high-end or anything but Target sometimes has some stylish, good quality garments depen…

I have complicated feelings about this. I grew up with working class roots but I’ve migrated solidly into the professional middle class/“white collar” bracket. I’ve met working class men who made less money but managed it waaay better than some middle class men who made more, but had poor spending habits. Sometimes middle class men have expensive tastes and no savings, even though on paper they are well paid. I think it’s wise to evaluate how a man manages his money on a case-by-case basis.

-Hits you with the “Do you just want me for money?” whenever you bring up the fact that he needs gainful employment. -Job hopping, vague personal projects/ambitions that never go anywhere (no progress in six months should be your sign). -He has a “health condition” that justifies why he can’t work or needs to trump your needs/wants. I’m not talking about an actual disability or a real health condition- I’m talking about vague or not-important health conditions that seem to only pop up when you r…

The competitive housing market in NYC and all other big metropolitan areas in the USA is precisely why you should prioritize your financial independence over teaming up with a man to be able to afford things. It sounds like you got the upper hand by keeping the apartment after your breakup but so many women find themselves without a home after the end of a relationship. We as women need to put ourselves in situations where the roof over our heads doesn’t depend on a man and how the relationship …

This. I know people who tidy up the house in anticipation of the cleaners coming. It would be disrespectful to make these people work around one’s disgustingness and clutter. Mad respect for cleaning ladies, they work so, so hard all day and they earn every dime. And they’re still not paid enough imo.

Catherine Dickens, wife of Charles Dickens-After 22 years of marriage, milking her connections in publishing, and bearing many of his children, Charles dumped her and barred her from seeing her own children for many years. I have loose waves, so I’m not full curly girl but I dabble in it. Traditional towel can add to frizz. Before you invest in something crazy expensive, try drying your hair in an old, clean cotton t-shirt. It should help absorb water without creating frizz.

It might be helpful to figure out your Kibbe type. It’s not a hard and fast science but it can be a helpful guide to picking garments that optimize your figure. It’s not about making rules on what not to wear (at least it’s not supposed to be), it’s more about leaning into your body’s natural lines.

The whole franchise is full of LVMs. Lots of the girls got pregnant before they could learn to be HVW and they’re now saddled with these loser baby daddies. Lots of these young women came from less than happy circumstances themselves- Leah comes to mind immediately but there are so many others. Jenelle’s and Kail’s lives are particularly messy but there’s plenty of mess to go around. It’s sometimes painful to watch but it’s enlightening in a sad way :(

I’m a white woman who grew up in a predominantly non-white community. There are men of color who racially fetishize white women. I think it’s worth mentioning that white women should also keep their eyes out for red flags that they are being racially fetishized. That said, it’s not my intent to derail this conversation and make it about white women.

Lean into the way they sit over your shoes. Skinny jeans highlight your shoes, and call attention to your feet. You can hide your shoes a bit more with a bootcut as long as they are long enough.

Look… I’m super over skinny jeans. I’m old enough to remember bootcut jeans and I’m so, so glad they’re back. The wider leg is a long time coming. The kids are right- skinny jeans have overstayed their welcome and should have been gone seasons ago. Don’t resist the wider leg.

Ask them questions about themselves! “Tell me more about…” is a good starter because it is open ended and lets your conversation partner really launch into something. If their interests are something you know nothing about, tell them! “I don’t know much about that, tell me all about it.”

Yes, urgh. I had a colleague who was harassing me at work and management(two men) was incredibly dismissive. They labeled it as “drama” and I got lots of versions of the “you don’t have to be best friends” talk, which was patronizing af. I’m a pretty good singer and pre-covid, I used to sing in church regularly (choir, solos at Christmas, etc). My ex had seen me in action. Once I wanted to listen to a rehearsal CD in the car on a road trip to prep for an upcoming performance. My ex wouldn’t let me put the CD in and told me I wasn’t that good at singing. I work at a school (not as a teacher) and I see that this practice is still sometimes implemented. If your daughter is being harmed in any way, or made to be responsible for a male student’s behavior in any way, I’d encourage you to make a fuss with the teacher and principal. Demand a meeting with the administrator and the teacher, lay out your concerns, and demand change. Keep records. I prefer to think of it as being “high engagement” rather than “clingy.” I like regular communication and having a guy’s full attention in person - and he gets the benefit of my attention, time, wit, empathy, etc. If he’s not investing in the effort to communicate and spend time with me, then I’m out. Your “friend” sucks. It’s kind of you that you don’t feel bitterness towards her but you’d be justified if you did and you don’t owe her forgiveness. You also don’t have to stay in her life just because you’re not mad. You will meet people who will be a true friend to you. You don’t have to stick around with people who have proven that they are not your friend.

I don’t think it’s so much that women believe this- I think that men, culture, and patriarchy have given them this message. That, with the message of “be polite” and “be grateful” paint women into a corner where they are manipulated into thinking that we owe men things.

Idk how old you are, but if you are in your early 20s or younger, get to know yourself. Have friends, try jobs, get an education, travel if you can, have experiences, talk about life with people you trust. A mortgage is literally a 30 year commitment. Why would anyone be willing to take out a marriage with someone, but not marry them? If marriage is “just a piece of paper,” then why not just get the piece of paper? If it’s so inconsequential, then surely any reasonable partner would indulge their SO that “piece of paper” if it really meant a lot to them.

I was involved with a man with many features of avoidant attachment. For him, any need that I had made me “needy.” It was excruciating because no matter how small my emotional need was, it was asking too much of him. Bringing up men’s issues in a discussion about women’s issues is classic whataboutism. It’s a rhetorical fallacy that we need to call out. There is a time and place to talk about men’s issues but brining it up during a conversation about women’s issues ain’t it.

I wish the conversation focused on protecting women from the kind of men who are looking to purchase sex- being anti- sex consumer. Women deserve better from feminism than having the consumption of their bodies celebrated and enabled in the name of a twisted misinterpretation of “sex positivity.”

“Lol I’ll take my chances,” is a good potential response. I used to worry that I’d never be able to replace my exes with quality men. But then I realized, it’s very unusual to be able to do something once but never be able to do it again. Ladies, if you got a hot guy once, you’re capable of getting another one. If you got a well-off guy once, you can do it again. If you’ve leveled up before, you can do it again. All of these dudes are replaceable.

I can do whatever I want, whenever I want, in my home. I don’t have to worry about or manage someone else’s money problems. I don’t have to worry about being judged by a partner. I don’t have to consult a partner’s opinion on anything. I can have all the cutesy, feminine stuff I want. I can spend my money on nice things for myself and not someone else. I don’t have to tiptoe around his moods.

Hold him accountable in age- appropriate ways. Discipline him in age-appropriate ways. Make sure he has other women in his life that love him, that he can learn from, that he can learn to empathize with. Make sure he has a good relationship with his father, and that his father is a HVM. Limit video games and make him go outside sometimes. Require hygiene. Require that he either go to college OR, if he is not going to college, that he has full time employment.

Almost every woman in my family has had a baby late into their 30s or into their early 40s. I meet plenty of women who are in their 40s, think they can’t have babies anymore, drop their birth control, and end up with an unplanned pregnancy. Certainly there are some women who struggle with fertility in their 30s but the whole “no eggs after 35” is bs.

This is one of the few benefits of working in education- the salaries are negotiated by the union and are published publically, so I know exactly what all of my colleagues make. Starting pay is the same for everyone and the way to move along the pay scale is not dependent on how much your boss likes you. The money is transparent. Every year they even distribute a list of each employee and how much they made, so I can look up individual employees if I want to.

He looks like the kind of guy who could hook her up with drugs. I’m glad she kicked him to the curb. She deserves to be with people who are supportive of her recovery and her career and loves her authentic self.

Neither of these people are you friends. Cut them out of your life and go to therapy.

“I have multiple degrees in education” is literally bringing it up but ok.

Idk, why don’t you stop being a upping humblebragger? You’re just mad that I made a comment you didn’t like and then called you out when you responded with a condescending attitude.

And yet you feel the need to remind me that you have ~multiple degrees~ in education when I point out in my comment what you literally just said- that lots of people don’t have the training or expectations to do it well. Your flippant “I have multiple degrees in education” comment makes you look like a one-upper- especially considering that YOU are the one soliciting advice . You’re not the only person here who has a couple of advanced degrees in education. I bet there’s a lot of us here.

Lol so why don’t you use your own knowledge if you have ~so many~ degrees in education?

If you have so many degrees in education, why did you even solicit advice about this? Because you clearly know better, right?

Yay, you’re in the minority of homeschool parents. Humblebrag much? You’re not the only person in this thread with multiple degrees in education.

As an educator, thank you for having the humility and self awareness to say this.

I work at a school (not a teacher but in another credentialed position). I think a lot of parents think that they can homeschool their kids but I think they underestimate the amount of work and time it takes. Also, credentialed teachers actually have a lot of training and the average parent just does not. Some homeschool kids get excellent educations but the dirty little secret is that many homeschooled students do not.

The premise here is bordering on victim blaming. You’re basically assuming that if a woman gets cheated on, it’s her fault on some level. That excuses the dude from his choice to step out on the relationship, rather than communicate honestly about his needs or end the relationship. If someone is having problems in their relationship, they need to speak up about it and work to resolve it or just break up. It says a lot about a man’s maturity if he chooses to cheat rather than choosing to work on …

OP, it’s clear that you don’t really understand women. A useful exercise for you would be practice talking to them, and when they tell you something, believe them and take them seriously. Practice empathy for then.

Press-on nails and "tan-touring" can get really trashy-looking really quickly, and they're no substitute for better hygiene. If your nails are brittle, a fortifying nail polish is a way better long term solution. As for "tan-touring"... ew. Just no. Sorry not sorry. Do some real skin care instead- gentle cleanser, toner, moisturizer, sunscreen. If your skin looks great, it will improve your whole look and you'll find that you need much less makeup.
