Usually some science course of your choice. I had to take three physics classes and a chemistry class, but they recently changed the requirements at my university because surprise surprise those have little to do with computer science, which you can learn no problem as long as you have the mathematics. I like science though, and a combination of science expertise and computer science is a powerful combination.

I'm curious as to what predicate that condition implies, because I can't even imagine what anyone would suggest that would imply.

Could you elaborate on what Code Academy's JS courses are lacking? I completed their JS courses, though I haven't had a chance to apply those skills yet. What more do I need to learn? (I did have to learn a bit about JS programming paradigms to make sense of why they kept changing the way they represented classes)

"Feminism" may be any number of isms that contradict each other but are still called the same thing, don't you know?

/r/nottheonion actually, there's already been an article in The Onion about parents kidnapping their own children.

I don't know, I think he restates why he's writing it too much and also guilts readers into reading the whole thing with stats on probability that readers will finish the article. The article could be a lot shorter or more rich with content. Well-written and concise? No. The meat of the article is great, though, and that's all that really matters.

I never downvoted you, but other people probably are because I was talking about fighting sports, not real fighting. We all know fighting sports is not real fighting, that's not relevant; people want to compete in sanctioned fighting regardless.

I agree, I like everything about him except his lack of education and skepticism in certain places. He seemed willing to learn in his podcast with Neil DeGrass Tyson, though.

If you don't like animals, you probably didn't grow up with them. People who grew up with dogs? Don't give a fuck about cats. Cat-lovers? Think dogs are dumb. I didn't grow up with either, only fish and bunnies that I hardly interacted with, and I find almost all animals to range from annoying to threatening.

The reason sports isn't unisex is the same reason there are weight classes in fighting and weightlifting sports: People want to compete regardless of the genetic lottery. Women and men who aren't huge simply wouldn't be able to compete in anything.

Thing is, there are tons of debate subreddits about religion and even a specific one for Christianity, /r/DebateAChristian. Thing is, there are some really good atheist debaters there, and you have to be quite the apologist to stump anybody there for long.

Another case of "feminism" meaning so little that it causes confusion to even use it. Being in favor of women's rights? Many would call that feminism. You've defined it as something else, but who is right? The word means nothing; there is no true feminist.

The problem is, "Feminism" has taken to mean anything from supporting "girl-power" to "equal gender rights" to "women are the best and deserve massive reparations for past unprivileged women." Even though it makes the most sense for "feminism" to refer to a female supremacy movement, that's just not how the word is used. Say anything against "feminism" and people think you're also against female pride, equality, as well as female supremacy. The best solution is to stop using the word. It is usel…

whether the accused found is guilty or not should be irrelevant here and btw you're using the wrong key for ' ` is not an apostrophe, and on reddit it can change the font to courier.

It's actually unlikely you'd be convicted on a woman's word alone. But your social and professional life could easily be ruined.

Maybe back then, but what about today? I'm not sure what you mean by attendant responsibilities, but do women not have them today? I guess your point is that, like when women gained the vote, today's feminism is giving women power before they've recognized social responsibility? Maybe in a few years, a woman's social responsibility will be recognized, as their "attendant responsibility" eventually was? By social responsibility I mean taking on moral agency, as persons capable of acting on and af…

So much pressure would need to be applied to balance the gender populations in computer science programs... women would have to be favored so much to the point where getting the degree would be much easier, requiring less rigorous training, and thus inevitably giving some incompetent students degrees. With the incompetent students with degrees being women, (again, since they'd have an extra push needed to balance the gender population, not because they're women) it would lead to discrimination, …

that means there's statistically at least one female in every game. Not necessarily. The player base statistic doesn't account for activity does it? One female in every game on average would only be true if everyone played the same amount of time. Women are rarely seen in the highest levels of LoL for the same reason they're rare in pro Starcraft, first person shooters, and the fighting game community. They're rare in non-video games as well. There are far more male chessmasters than female. Wha…

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or weird. :( Your eyes may be deceiving you because it isn't an argument about semantics. If you try hard to rephrase the argument you may make it look like a fallacy of equivocation, which would be pointing out self-contradictory semantics, but that can be done with any composition/division fallacy just by using the same word to mean the whole in one part of the argument and the parts in another.

"Affirming the consequent" is a formal fallacy, and is not the fallacy committed here. The (informal) fallacy committed here is the division fallacy. Opposing the whole of Feminism is being conflated with opposing each and every part of it, but one can oppose a movement while still agreeing with some of their main points.
/r/MensRights06/02/13 11:19 PM

It's a division fallacy. Feminism the ideology is a set of values, but opposing Feminism does not mean one opposes every value of Feminism. The opposition to each and every part is irrelevant to opposition of the whole. A fallacy of irrelevance, the division fallacy.

Rights are zero-sum when they grant infringement upon others' rights. Pre-Civil War, white men had the right to own slaves, but post-Civil War, they didn't. Of course, rights of one group that limit the other (without some justification) is not the greatest good for the greatest number, so taking away rights like that is justified. This discussion was never about "ideals," but about rights -- abilities granted by the state through law. You can gain and lose those, and abilities of one individual…
