I've literally told friends before that I've told them multiple times that that man is no good for them and I need to set boundaries that they can't keep coming to me about it. It has worked well. We are still friends.

Yes, this! I've dated men in the past who have said "I really want to kiss you" or "Can I kiss you?" and its lovely

Yeah, its been what? Two months since they started officially dating? Sounds concerningly like love bombing and they've already had sex.

I think this is the major evidence for sexuality not being a choice. Do they really think we would choose to be attracted to men?

I'd always get this back when I was OLD "I'm a doctor" "Oh cool so when will you finish medical school?" "I'm a doctor. I'm done. I've been done for a number of years now" Its so confusing to them.

Are you on the level up strategy subreddit? There's a bit of that there

I've heard of it happening to a lot of women on this sub. Please report them.

Oh, don't worry. No deep breathing here, I'm very happy living my own single life without worrying about impressing some average man. I completely agree with you, particularly with your first paragraph. My friends that got married early got jobs in our home town that don't pay as well and then didn't progress as far in their careers because they had babies and now ...?? they're separated with not great jobs while he now has the free time to further his career even more because the kids are liv…

I think that's part of being new to the mindset? I agree that we probably have to "fake it til we make it". If you're used to dating and being concerned about men's opinions being a part of your life, then it will feel unusual when you replace that with something else. Continue to focus on yourself and becoming the highest value version of yourself you can be, it isn't a race and you don't have to achieve everything at once

You'll get mixed responses but I think that is cautiously a good thing...? Good relationships do require constant effort, you don't want someone who sits back and coasts once you're in a relationship.

You're so right! My friend is in a LTR with her partner (they're lesbians) and they are hands down the best couple I know! They're so supportive of each other and so sweet

I want to hug you. I don't know how old you are but to me you sound young and/or inexperienced. I'm now at the point in my life where I'm a) happy with being single until someone comes along who is worth my effort and time AND b) my friends that started getting married in their early 20s have started getting divorced. So don't look at your friends getting engaged and think that you need to meet someone or that you're incomplete without a partner - that is absolute pickme behaviour and you put yo…

Agreed! I know this is mostly about dating, but I sometimes feel like the posts are too focussed about using levelling up as a way to get men, rather than levelling up to be the best version of yourself and a HVM being the secondary benefit. If that makes sense?

I'm 27 and have reached the point where some of my friends and friends of friends who married in the past five years have started separating. It's really interesting from the outside (and obviously sad for them) but also its nice to watch my friends ditching the LVM in their lives!

Me too, I've deleted my accounts from bumble and tinder after finding FDS. It is SO nice.

Degrees and nice things do not a HVM maketh! As others have said, you do not need wealth to put in effort. Often we judge men on their potential, not their actions. We project onto them what we think they could be, not what they are. Obviously he has a lot of potential but is not a HVM, at least you know now.

Do you not want the intention to be serious and romantic? What are you looking for on these dates otherwise?

Sounds like she dodged a huge bullet and he was just looking for a cheap way to get off. Maybe she'll realise one day!

If you're on instagram have a look at tindertranslations and thedatingdoula. Hilarious pages that will give you an idea of the awful profiles around and how to avoid!

It depends - is he dedicated to bettering himself? Is the reason he doesn't have a job because he wasn't putting the effort into internships etc while studying, or because of COVID and no one is hiring? Does he come up with perpetual excuses or is he actively seeking work in his field? Also I agree that two masters makes me concerned about him being a perpetual student that is unwilling to move forward in life.

Sounds like you are on the right track! How nice is it living in your own place, decorated how you want, with no one else around to make it untidy. I'm also one to second the ordinary - great prices and good product!

Why even bother? Put as much effort into him as they put into you - block and delete.

Absolutely this. Especially if they were really quick at messaging you at first and then it drops off. They're just keeping you around just in case.

Have you ever looked into attachment styles? Your comment about detached people attracting clingers is 100% it - the theory being that people are either avoidant, secure or anxious and avoidant and anxious people tend to attract each other (but also because if you're secure you don't put up with that BS). You sound avoidant in relationships and the people are you dating sound incredibly anxious. You might see yourself in some of the descriptions, I know that I definitely did. The school of life …

Yessss, I liked Love Life! I cringed watching her with Magnus but found it realistic and relatable if you've ever had a LTR end.

Honestly, I don't think this should be a "goal" in the usual sense. At the start of the year I made a list of short/mid/long term goals and this did not feature - my Mum asked me about it and I said to her that yeah it would be nice if it happened but unless I find someone worth my time, effort and energy, I'm not going to marry/date them JUST to have a family.

Such a great list below! I would add: - being able to decorate my house the exact way I like it - not having to compromise on food/being able to eat mostly vegetarian/avoid buying meat (my ex was frugal to the point of extreme and wouldn't even want me to buy free-range eggs, this is super important to me!) - not having to do a man's icky washing (my ex worked outside and everything was often muddy) - not having to have unfulfilling sex where they always get to orgasm and I get to if they can be…

Constantly! The issue that I also find is that there are so few attractive men, decent jobs, decent chat and decent profiles on OLD that a lot of the women I know that use it end up matching with the same guys. It's a grim world. I've let some men that I know (friends and my brother, etc.) scroll through the options for women on OLD and they are all horrified.

Ugh. This is also just not true. There is plenty of evidence that men who are married have better mental health, live longer and healthier lives and earn more money where the opposite is true for women. Women who do not marry live longer, healthier lives. The women I know (large bias due to the work that I do) also earn more money and are more financially secure than the men they date - there is literally no benefit to them in marrying except for companionship, and most men aren't even good at t…

Oh yeah, I cringe when I think about the effort I put into men who said they "rEaLlY lIkEd Me" but would put in zero effort. Never again.

I've also turned off all notifications for social media apps (inc OLD)! Nothing is ever urgent, and if it is then people close to me have my phone number or can easily get it. Not having the reminder that social media exists has made me check it much less often just by default. I have notifications for texts and for whatsapp because I use it for work.

Potentially? Given we are all trying to be HVW ourselves I agree that cooking is a valuable skill. Do you not cook at all? If I was dating or messaging a man who told me that he doesn't cook, or doesn't know how to cook, that would be a huge red flag for me and there would be no more dates.
