I mean, the one calling him out on the BS question should have been an indicator. If you normalize that technique, you will always exude that fear and falseness to some degree. Anyone who makes any specific judgment towards someone being “quiet” is just that-judgmental. As in, to a fault. That “quiet” person might be overly chatty under similar or different circumstances. And any shade of other traits! Whether or not someone is actively being social in your peripheral vision is wayyyyyy too early to decide anything about them.

This. The only thing I have to add: Learn to enjoy the process. A lot of the time you’ll be approaching someone who is unavailable or otherwise disinterested in you. You can still practice complimenting them, exuding confidence, gaining their respect, and walking away feeling like it wasn’t awkward at all.
