Not too many women looking for a wife. Homemaker is the female role normatively. Yes I know some women have to take over for sometimes legit and usually illegit reasons. What is he to do? “provide for his household.” What is she to do? “Keep busy at home.” Yish

Yes, I'd think certain actresses and/or characters would work as well.

I hope you find many good role models. I think it's easier to sort of pattern yourself loosely after others than try to remember all the rules in a manual.

That could have been absolutely ANYBODY. You never met. And any pics you might have sent would be on the internet forever... Dodged a cannonball imo.

Read some books, fiction is fine, with really good feminine characters. It was a long time ago but is “girl of the Limberlost” a good suggestion or too old school? Anyway others may have suggestions. So you have an ideal or a picture to complete, you know?

For me it has to entail marriage. That’s what marriage is. A public, social, spiritual, legal, permanent commitment. Of course death or perfidy can break it. I am sorry that happened to you. But commitment equals marriage in my book. Everything else is pseudo. This sub seems to be ok with living together but personally I am not.

It is true though that men statistically die at a younger age and many are sickly of course beforehand. Just to be prepared. If you are 55 and he is 70 he’ll probably be needing this and that care and then - You’re 60 and he has passed away and you have 20-25 years of widowhood ahead of you. Of course these are just averages. Still, be prepared.

I think you are overreacting a bit. There is a problem when (in this case) a man is simply toxic, holding you responsible for his mood at any given time. Of course we should do all we reasonably can to help lift a mood. We have a lot of power in that area. But we don't have total power. That is what I'm trying to say. If you are usually an upper, and keep a clean house, and listen to his arguments, and laugh at his jokes, and are kind and generous, and he is constantly angry, complaining, depres…

A man should support his family. That is not gold digging. Going after rich men only is gold digging.

Homemade cookies that are set off attractively packaged like in a basket with cloth napkin etc would be great. The more elaborate things say “trying too hard” to me.

May I say that, while it is good and right to be of emotional support to your husband, it is wrong and foolhardy to hold yourself responsible for another person's emotional health? This can get abusive, fast. Be careful to keep the two situations clear. You should be a trustworthy emotional help to your man. But you can't be responsible for his actual emotional health. Even if a woman is "perfect" her husband could be messed up, and it would be a shame for you to feel responsible for that.

I don't think you should equate "enjoy sex" with "had several sexual partners." The two are not necessarily equivalent.

Embracing transgenderism to the point where men are playing on international women's soccer teams, now. Girls' and Womens' sports are going straight out the window as men with their extra musculature, hand-eye coordination, and aerobic capacity are wrestling us, MMA fighting us, racing us, and headed to the Olympics as stupidity basically destroys women's sports from the high school to the Olympic level. Unless they put a stop to it.

Enjoyed this. Casual sex is not generally enjoyable as she states, no matter what the current narrative may be. It’s just a lie. She did not go into the emotional damage it causes and I think that’s underestimated as well. I feel for the men she “nailed and ignored”. Men have feelings too.

Found the subreddit when it was dissed by name in another sub- stayed because I generally agree with it as I have a Christian conservative worldview and enjoy thinking through the issues Took red pill long before reddit - I feel more honest and real in traditional sex roles. I believe in objective truth and don’t think there’s different truths for different people. Although they can do what they want. I do have daughters and would never recommend they live with a man outside of marriage. Statistically women who live with men before they marry them are more likely to divorce. There are probably other factors at play like more religious people wouldn’t live together first and might be more opposed to divorce as well. I lived with mine way back before I married him and I believe he values me less for it but couldn’t prove it of course.

Drug abusers. Seen so many destroyed by them. Maybe he’s not using right now. Maybe he is. But as anyone at al-anon or narc-anon will tell you, recovery is rare and you can’t fix them. Sorry if my comment doesn’t reflect the reality (he may be off the coke and Xanax) but, cynically, I think it’s unlikely. Move on. One day at a time. Hard work.

Yes, women (and children) are in a vulnerable position for many years. Laws used to protect us in respect of that but culture/law/society has changed, imo, for the worse.

possibly not; but then you'd have to make the rounds of local churches. I encourage you to get out there and try until you find a good place.

You have some input as to what goes into a prenuptual agreement, right? So express your concerns. And I think your concerns could be addressed by including, in the prenuptual agreement, a section that allows you to be supported for a reasonable amount of time in the event of a divorce. During that time you could update job skills, train for something, intern somewhere, or whatever, so you could enter the job market in a better position to provide for yourself.

I guess you could write in your prenup that you get so much for so many years while you update your job skills, train, or take a lower paying job as you seek to establish yourself.

I see. STEM classes are supposedly a good place to meet marriageable men. I always suggest church but obviously you'd need to have more reason than that to be in church. . . some churches are small so you need to circulate to more functions and/or join a spiritually oriented dating service to meet the guys who want to marry and aren't looking for a quick sexual encounter.

Besides dealing with what I actually could, I made sure I was sleeping. Cut out caffeine and practiced good “sleep hygiene” including occasional use of otc sleep aids. Also got very methodical with prayer. Wrote down ever thing I was anxious over ( even the “stupid” stuff) and asked God every day for help. Just made myself keep asking.

I wasn't there obviously but a man who routinely jokes about dumping a fairly new girlfriend sounds like a narcissist? Which is a person who is virtually impossible to build a good relationship with. Like a man who threatens all the time to divorce his wife. I mean that is just not cool.

This is my first time posting but thought it worthwhile. I especially like Prager's point about "not being ready" for children. It's been my experience that if you wait until you are perfectly ready for something, well, you are never ready. Also I liked his point about the benefits of marriage for men, which I think we often overlook in this subreddit. At least it seems we may give to much credence to resistance to it on their part. It's a good thing for them, too.

The piece of paper is the evidence of the legal, social, cultural, personal, and religious commitment made. One needs “pieces of paper “ for all sorts of important things. Birth certificate and death certificate. Deed to house. Will. Adoption papers. Passport. Loan papers. School enrollment. Diplomas. The piece of paper is very important.

Not to be argumentative but my honest opinion of that is, if your long term girlfriend says she wants to be A wife, as opposed to YOUR wife, a man in love would not like to think of you married to someone else. It should NOT be ok with him to just think if you as some other mans wife.

I’d ask to have a serious convo, kindly tell him what is on my heart, ask him to think about it, and, if he is unwilling to commit, graciously leave. You don’t want to spend such optimal years being the free cow to this guy so to speak. Whether he realizes it or not he is using you. I know it’s easy for me to say. I’m not in love with him. If you end up making a gracious exit that might actually knock some sense into him. It may not even come to that.
