0	Can we have a serious conversation about this? It's only a loan if the receiver gives consent. If you offer to pay and don't make it clear that it's a loan and not a gift, you shouldn't assume that the other party would take your loan. Edit: Really, it needs to be clear what is going on whenever you pay for someone else's meal. But if you pay for it and don't make it clear, the error is on the behalf of the payer, thus the conflict should properly be resolved on the behalf of the receiver. Once someone offers to pay for dinner (Assuming no repayment agreement was made or implied) that payment then becomes a gift. If I gift you a new bike you don't now owe me for that bike.
