I used to have waves where I felt exactly what you are describing, and it sucked. I would cry at home sometimes, sad I was alone. Knowing I would feel worse in a relationship I heavily settled for didn't erase those feelings. But as I started actively researching single motherhood by choice, those periods of intense loneliness didn't hit quite as hard. Once I fully separated my desire from motherhood from the thought of being with a man, once I started getting more info about what using donor sp…

As a fairly new attending physician, just me, you don't want to date most male doctors/med students. Two physician households often result in the female physician "taking a step back" in her career when the topic of kids comes up.

Current med student (done in a few weeks!). At least in the US, we not only make $0, but tuition at the vast majority of med schools is $40,000-$60,000 annually, even at public schools. We often are paying to be working at the hospital 70+ hrs/wk and then have to go home and studying, so no real time to pick up a few hours even for any job. Without any income, saving up for an engagement ring would be a difficult task.

Fact: college is a waste, but we haven't yet hit that point in society where we can bypass it. I mean, this is the author's conclusion. When I read through this article, I felt that the author took a very dismissive stance towards college as a whole, not just the fluffy artsy degrees. I mean, there was the recommendation to just go to the bookstore for an education following the comment that the difference between female doctors and female Salon writers is not at all due to college experience. I…

Sure, some college women go on to become doctors and CEOs, and some go on to become child pornographers and Salon writers, none of those things have anything to do with what happened in college. I want to know how I could have gotten into medical school without a college diploma. I would have loved to get a start on things four years earlier :-) In all seriousness, I understand the sentiment behind the article, but does the author really believe that a degree in engineering or computer science o…

Are you single? Yes What do you look for in a man? Good sense of humor, strong moral fiber, similar values to me, decent looks, intelligence (in roughly that order) Do you think men should pay for the Check when out on a date with you? Certainly on a first date, presuming they did the asking. I wouldn't mind splitting the check, though, and I am all about low/no cost dates. Do you like chivalrous men? Do you believe in chivalry? Would you like it if a man opened the door for you, lent you his ja…

I'm 25, and I would prefer him to have an N <5. Once we get to double digits, I'm going to be very reluctant. I don't know if I have a firm max number, but I kind of doubt I would be okay with >15. I have no issues with a virgin.

I'm in my mid-20's and most of my close friends have a low N (definitely less than 5). Most had a long-term boyfriend or two in college, maybe one or two casual hookups max. A decent number of them have 0-1 partners. Yup, I know virgins in their mid-20's who are decent looking (thin, long hair, facial structure at least average) and not super religious. What all these women have in common is that they have been busy with other aspects of their life besides the social (mainly medical school/caree…

Yeah, medicine isn't the only profession out there that demands nearly everything from you, at least for a given amount of time. Nursing in general is very demanding (fairly thankless job, disrespect from numerous colleagues, long shifts, less than regular work schedules), and I would imagine prison nursing adds a whole additional level of stressors. I think that while the exact makeup of why a career in medicine is draining might be unique, there are certainly other fields and professions that …

Knowing the trade-offs to any major life decision is essential, in my opinion, but there are an awful lot of individuals who just go full steam ahead without seeing the big picture (including several of my classmates). I think people would be a lot happier if they could better think through the long-term consequences of their actions, but the prolonged adolescence of college does little to foster that ability from what I've seen. I have classmates who successfully pursued traditional relationshi…

I think the 'I'm too busy' line is really just an excuse. A lot of times, sure. But let me tell you, during my third year of medical school, this was 100% the truth, at least for a new relationship. I was working weird hours that would flip from night shift to day shift week to week. Some days I was working from before 6 am to 10 pm or later, and then I had to come home and study. Days off I had boatloads of laundry and errands. There were months were I was averaging 90+ hours/wk at the hospital…

Definitely read Christie's The Murder of Roger Ackroyd if you haven't yet. One of her most memorable Poirot novels.

Also it's much easier for a guy to get sexual satisfaction from a random hookup compared to women. One million times this. Why would I have casual sex in the hopes of an orgasm when I can assure one for myself without any of the associated risks. Unless I have an emotional bond with the guy, it isn't worth it at all.

I recently watched Magic Mike with one of my best friends. He happens to be a gay man. He couldn't believe the "set-up" for most of the dance routines (i.e. dueling cowboys, fireman, ken doll come to life, etc). He straight up asked me "Do women really need all this?" It was utterly baffling to him that the "story" enhanced attraction for the average straight woman. For him, there would be enough attraction just from the physical presence. For me, it would be nice to watch an attractive man danc…

We are nearly identical in height and my last relationship was with a man around 5'7"/5'8", so I can speak from that experience. I know heels are sexy, but for the first few dates, I chose not to wear them. Instead, I wore some beautiful ballet flats. Being close to the same height as my date made me less self conscious than if I had towered over him. The rest of my outfit was always very feminine (dresses or skirts with cute tops, polished makeup, hair down and sleek), but I found that by ditch…

I'm a med student as well. There are absolutely times I need to exhibit more masculine traits at the hospital, but "softer," more feminine skills are also beneficial. When I was on my surgery clerkship, the patients bonded with me because I was kind and polite to them during rounds when the rest of the team just breezed in and out of the room. Soon, I gained a reputation as a "people person" and I was given more responsibilities such as contacting family members or educating patients before disc…

If I had no baseline attraction to the man, absolutely not. It would make me feel hella uncomfortable, and I would refuse the favors he offered. If I was already attracted to the man, it might or it might not. If he singled me out with his attention, sure, it would be flattering, but it probably wouldn't change my attraction to him one way or the other. If he was the type of man who went out of his way to help lots of people, that would probably increase my attraction to him. It would show he ge…

By beyond thin, do you mean super skinny or plump/overweight?

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
