It doesn't though. It puts people off and makes it harder for hesitant people to accept trans people. Normalizing means to make normal. You make something normal by not treating it special. Treating something special by definition is not making it normal. Trans people need to be seen as exactly the same as everyone else. Not special. If they're special then they're different.

It's more than that. They take the sum total of lifetime earnings of men vs women, then compare them. Even with all the stay-at-home moms, teachers, child care workers, time off for caring for family etc, women as a group on average still earn close to what men as a group do on average

In the US it's up to the judge I think. Usually you get punished for each offense, and sometimes the punishments run concurrently, and others they run sequentially. So in your example, you can get 16 years total, but 6 of them will be serving out the theft charge as well. Or you can get 22 years.

Much like anything else, they co-opted the word for their own meaning. You can think of it as equality of opportunity vs equity of outcomes. Equality with regards to disabled people would be removing barriers that prevent them from succeeding. Installing a wheel chair ramp is equality...they now have equal opportunity to work, same as anyone else. Equity would be giving them a paycheck for staying home because they couldn't get into the building to work.

Yes, that's correct. But it's not a good thing. From here Equity is giving everyone what they need to be successful. Equality is treating everyone the same. This picture exemplifies the idea. Equality is the right path forward for society. We want people to have the same opportunities as everyone else. Expecting the same outcomes requires coercion and violence. People will never be equal because people are not equal, and people do not make equal choices.
