That's because equality index score affected only if women face equality or inequality. If men face inequality it's not going to change so thus index only tell us one sided story

Not only that this gender equality index is also baised toward womens they just measure if women face any inequality then this index score decrease and if they face equality this would increase. They don't even look at other side if men face inequality. I don't know why this is called gender equality index

Yeah, As we all know that in dawn of humanity men chose thier roles as hunter and women chose to take care of children. And these roles remained for centuries. But maybe this happen in stem is because the women who actually pursue stem feild are better then average women so that's why they do better then mens who pursue are average and girls who do are exceptions
