Congrats! My temporary hearing is at the end of the month. We're going to mediation to try to avoid it but my ex still wants primary custody rather than joint. If we don't reach an agreement in mediation then we're going to court. Its difficult because I'm paying my legal fees on my own, and it's a lot (already over $15k and we haven't even been to court yet) but her parents are paying hers. There's a lot of effort to convince me to capitulate.

It is hard. Believe me. My ex has called me every name in the book. She fought for sole custody. I have no reason to like her, but it's not about her.

This. My son loves me, and I know this. Him and I have a great time together. But he still tells me almost every day he's with me they he misses mommy (he's 7). One day he even cried. We did a special phone call with mom and I organized a lunch for the three of us the next day. Dont take it personal. The kid misses his mom, whom he loves. It doesn't take anything away from his love for you.

It's pretty helpful when you get an email which is accusatory, Inflammatory nonsense. Its actually helped my communications a lot and helped lower my stress and anxiety about the coparenting relationship. Yes, she's still high-conflict. I can't change her. But I don't need to be reactive to it, and I can keep my own emotions in check no matter what she accuses me of.

In general, I'm very pro-child support. I think it's important that people pay to support their children when they leave a marriage. But the way its routinely handled in this country is appalling. My ex makes slightly less than me, but more than twice the median family income for our area. And she's fighting for sole custody. If she wins, not only do I lose the chance of seeing my son at least half the time, but I also get to pay her for the privilege. She doesn't need the money. We already spli…
