You’re welcome! If you’re just trying to form good cleaning habits, I would recommend checking out flylady.net. Some of it is pretty silly, but I do find it inspiring, and it can help focus your energy if you have a hard time knowing where to start. She even has an app that helps keep you on track.

I don’t find it difficult, but I only work 8.5 hours a day. It would be tough if I worked 12! I find the easiest way to keep a clean house is to never let it get messy to begin with. If I take something out, I put it away. I will give my bathroom surfaces a wipe down after I am done getting ready for the day (quick windex and a paper towel). I use my dishwasher for nearly everything and don’t necessarily wait until it’s full to run it. Stuff like that.

That’s a pretty heavy burden for divorced or single moms to bear, especially if they divorce while their kids are young. Out of curiosity, why do you feel this way? And why would the husband/father’s death change anything? I personally think it’s dangerous to not bring a man around until you’re engaged. IMO, the man needs to know what he’s getting into before proposing. I’m not advocating introducing a child right away, but waiting for engagement seems a bit too long to me. I am divorced and dat…

For me, the key is reminding myself that I’m ok without him. I love him, yes, but I don’t NEED him. I was fine before we started dating, and I will be fine if we broke up. That really helps calm me down if I start working myself up. It really, truly can be a self-fulfilling prophecy. I’ve never met a man (at least, not one who is emotionally mature and stable) who is attracted to a clingy, needy woman. When I first started dating my boyfriend, he told me one of the things that really attracted h…

So true! This is one area where the differences between men and women are so apparent. I can feel like the relationship is falling apart because he is stressed out and quiet one day, and he will have NO IDEA that I’m even worried.

That is a great win!! My boyfriend is a pretty terrible texter, and we generally don’t talk on the phone. We work together, so I see him Monday through Friday at work and we spend Sundays together, but we don’t see each other on Saturdays. Saturdays feel endless to me because I miss him, and sometimes I start to feel insecure. As the honeymoon period of our relationship ended (we have been together a year), I noticed he was texting me less frequently than before, and I’ve had a hard time adjusti…

It sounds like he’s done with you, and rightfully so. Learn from this, fix your behavior, and move on. I wouldn’t even meet, if I were him. To be honest, I was reading this with my mouth agape. Every time I thought your behavior couldn’t get any worse, it did. I say this not to shame you, but to emphasize that you have a lot to learn before you attempt another relationship.

Really? It costs $900/month to feed a teenage boy? That is double what I used to spend on my family of 2 adults and 1 child. I may be in for a rude awakening in 10 years! 😂

I believe it! I was thinking if it increases their food budget $50/week, that would be $300 for the entire time he’s there, which really isn’t much in order to help make the kid’s summer better. But I don’t know their financial situation.

Yes to both, although my child is young still.

I read it as this is not his child, but his child’s half brother.

You will be doing laundry, cooking, and cleaning anyway. Is it really that much extra work to add one more person? And will it really make a serious dent in your finances? If so, you have bigger problems. Now, if you’re uncomfortable with the prospect of him being in your space or being responsible for his entertainment, then I could see that as a valid concern. But if you present the financial or extra work concerns to your fiancé, he may just think you’re grasping at straws and, frankly, being…

The waking scenario...is that during the work week, or on weekends?

My son is only 6, so it’s really too early to tell. But he always tells me he wishes I was able to be home when he is done with school. I think it’s pretty unusual to grow up with contempt for your mom if she SAH...I have a feeling there is more to your friend’s husband’s story. I wouldn’t be a good SAHM either. I love my son more than life, but when he was young, the weekend days seemed endless. His personality is SO different from mine, and he exhausts me! It’s a lot better now that he’s 6, bu…

You’re smart to be thinking about this, because In most career fields you can’t just take time off and then jump back in where you left off. It throws everything off. I’m with you on the “you just never know.” It doesn’t even have to be divorce. Your husband could become disabled and unable to work. He could die. There are a million things that could happen that would require you to be able to support yourself and your children. It’s (somewhat) easy to give up a 25k income to SAH, because it wou…

I grew up wanting to be a SAHM. It was all I ever wanted to do. I studied electrical engineering with the intent of working a few years and saving money before I started having kids and staying home. Life didn’t work out quite how I expected. My now-ex-husband turned out to lack character. Our relationship was not what I wanted. I didn’t want to leave my job because I didn’t trust him, so I never considered SAH when my son was born. It’s a good thing I decided to stay working, because my ex even…

I have a feeling that most men that are dominant and exhibit strong leadership have never heard of TRP. I don’t think that group is a good representation of the type of man that you want (it’s DEFINITELY not for me). You can find a strong, masculine man with leadership qualities by vetting for those qualities as you’re meeting men and dating. I would call my boyfriend the “captain” type, and those traits are just ingrained in him - he’s never heard of TRP. I noticed those qualities in him when w…

Oh yes! My ex-husband was completely incompetent in pretty much all areas of life. I was desperate to find something to respect about him, but there was really nothing. I despised him by the time we got divorced. This time around, my boyfriend can do anything - he is a whiz with electronics, and he can do any home or car repair that’s needed. It is such a good feeling to know he’s strong and capable. Especially with my background, I feel so incredibly fortunate to have found him.

Fair assumption. I actually got divorced last year. I married quite young and it didn’t work out for many reasons, the biggest being that I did a very poor job choosing my spouse. I like to think I’m a lot smarter this time around, and I know the qualities that are important in a man. My boyfriend and I have discussed marriage but are waiting until next year to allow my son time to adjust to the idea.

I’m not in the medical field, but I am in STEM (I’m an electrical engineer). I find the balance is the same as any other job that is project oriented rather than task oriented. At times, I have to put in some extra hours to finish a project, but it’s not excessive. I’ve not noticed my career interfering with my ability to attract a good man. I’m 37 and I met my wonderful boyfriend at work.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
