Because historically a man's role was to go out and compete with other men and the natural world to provide food, shelter and all that good stuff for his mate and his offspring and a woman's role was to shut the fuck up and have babies. Yes, these gender roles are barbaric and antiquated, but like it or not they molded our psychology.
