Thanks – that's definitely true about the bigger worries. Partially, I think I'm falling into the "whoa, suddenly everyone's getting married around me" emotional trap and trying to envision how it will fit into my life...which is to say, I don't think it will easily, and that's making me feel pretty abnormal. And you're completely right – the more open we are in establishing those other issues of compatibility, the more rationally we can approach the topic of a wedding. Thanks again :)

Agree so strongly! I think some of the most compelling people I've ever met all share the quality of passionately pursuing their interests. Enthusiasm spills over, and it becomes infectious. What do you care about? What drives you forward? Write down a list of things you'd like to accomplish from the small & simple (e.g. learning how to make homemade tortillas – serious yums) to the grand (becoming conversational in Italian), to those somewhere in-between (ticking off a list of every movie by a …

Out of my current three-year relationship, I've lived abroad for work for almost half of that time (and will again soon for a semester). Unfortunately, my boyfriend's love language is a split between quality time/acts of service, so both of those presented some issues, and I had to get creative with the ways I showed affection! I found that he truly appreciated me taking the time to create things for him, e.g. letters, photos, little two-minute videos of what I was doing/my surroundings. Even if…

Ah, I'm so sorry you were robbed (a truly awful experience to go through), but I'm happy that your husband handled the situation so well with your emotional state in mind. Also, I'm impressed by your ability to reflect on something positive about your relationship from that terrible experience! It's really humbling to have someone know exactly what you need – e.g. helping you keep active and productive...it feels like the epitome of 'teamwork' (ack, could a word sound any more juvenile?) when so…

Ahh, this is a throwaway account, and I was just in the midst of using it for throwaway purposes, but had to say – there's absolutely nothing to be ashamed about in expressing grief over the loss of a pet. I think the bonds we have with animals often transcend any type of social dynamic that we encounter within our human communities. There's nothing deceptive, confusing, or dishonest about our friendships with pets, despite our limited ability to communicate. So, in a lot of ways, it can be sort…

(A belated reply) Thanks for writing that. I've read the identified posts but agree that the process of gleaning their meaning and integrating them into one's own perspective requires quite a bit of hard work and intellectual discomfort (especially realizing that one can discover blindly-formed beliefs at the core of one's sense of self/others). I'm really grateful a primer on popular ideas among this community exists, since it's complex and, of course, a "paradigm-shift" (as much as that phrase…

No, I agree re: learning directly from experience; I should have clarified I'm hetero (sorry, I was writing it late at night) and looking for kind of an individual assessment or gut-check on how some of my actions/ideas about my relationships are perceived by others within this realm of thinking, since I'm still getting a grasp on how TRP theories relate to me (as an individual, not as a female in general). Kind of more of a meta request than anything. Not just a "Would TRP line of thinking 'app…

Thanks, will do – I was assuming that I was asking a lot of you guys, not to mention sort of wanting to establish more of a less-public dialogue. But I'm going to give it a shot.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
