I'm curious about how the strategy of being an object when you're lost worked out. Did anyone in fact get lost? Did they obey the advice? I imagine compliance would be an issue. Did the strategy work?

Let's for the sake of argument assume that consciousness switches on at 20 weeks. At 19 weeks, there is one person, and thus one body and one set of rights. Surgery on that body is entirely the purview of the person in question. At 20 weeks, there are two people. One of them can't be asked for their permission, but we can infer they wouldn't grant it from our own experience.

When they use regular screws, an astounding number of people think they can fix it and find out they can't the hard way, then blame the company rather than themselves. By contrast, the company gets no calls at all from those who think they can fix it and can. Even if you cut off the kickbacks, you might have trouble convincing them to stop.
