I'm a little older than you, and my experience is the same. I have a friend on Reddit who gives me compliments on things. She's literally the only one in my life who does. The best way to look at it is to ask the lady if she believes all humans are equally deserving of safety, compassion, etc. If she answers anything but yes, she's unreasonable and not worth arguing with. After establishing that all humans are deserving of compassion, point out that violent crime is committed by the most aggressive humans, most of whom are men, some being women. 1	My cousin struck her husband with an open hand on the top of his head really hard, and no one said a word. It's not really acceptable, but it's tolerated, mostly because people just don't know what to do in that kind of situation. I bet it got really awkward as everyone at the table tried to process that situation. I've been punched in the face by a woman before, out of anger. It was just weird, because I didn't expect it.
