This is so close to my situation it's eerie, like I had to check and make sure I didn't post this and forget about it.

Thank you. Fortunately I'm already in the process of fucking off, so she doesn't really have any influence left. Doesn't mean she doesn't try, lol!

Literally going through this now with the ex. "You were abusive!!" Whoa, I take that super seriously, I would never want to abuse you, mentally or emotionally, and if I'm doing that accidentally I want to change. Can you tell me exactly what I'm doing or have done so I can improve? "Stop gaslighting me, asshole!" It's fucking ridiculous.

How much you make doesn't determine how much things cost. McDonald's doesn't charge Bezos more for a burger because he's rich. At zero taxes (which of course isn't what they pay, but even if), Gates and Bezos are still contributing millions of times more value to society and their fellow humans than we are. Their higher tax rates reflect a greater usage of services, and to that extent that's fine. If OP worked from home, it might be reasonable to say "hey, you're actually using more of the utili…

He IS helping her. He's paying 50% of her bills when he could easily live alone. She's a grown-ass woman who makes plenty of money. It is never greedy to want to keep what you earn. Greed only applies to things that aren't rightfully yours. SHE'S greedy, he's not.

I'm making no assumptions - I'm using comments from the OP. He works more hours than she does.

Most of my friends in tech or finance are around there.

Yes. Mentioned in the comments somewhere that he's the primary date financier.

He pays for 99% of dates.

working just as hard with a worse job Nope. He works twice as much, and much harder.

It was the "midget" comparison. A little person didn't choose to be short, and no action they could take would make them tall. So that comparison made it sound like your view of the GF was that she made no choices leading to her income level, and no future choices could change it.

If I did what I loved instead of what made money, it would be REAL shitty of me to demand someone ELSE'S money to even out some perceived inequality. If you choose to make less to have more work satisfaction or balance, that's awesome - but that's your choice, and pretty much the essential component of choice is taking all the consequences yourself. It's cool if you give more because you want to. You're not an asshole if you don't.
/r/PussyPassDenied24/11/19 04:47 PM

Then OP wasn't the asshole, because GF refused that last part.

Right! And if your partner makes that much more than you and picks up the tab more, and you have more time because you work less, you're an asshole for not picking up more of the housework. This is regardless of gender. Agree?

It's one thing to say "OP and GF have different values and thus probably aren't compatible, even though neither is an asshole," which is fine. It's wrong to say HIS values aren't valid, but hers are.

He wasn't. He paid for the majority of dates. He just wanted a 50/50 split on the standard monthly bills, not incidentals. OR he wanted her to pick up more housework, since he worked way more hours - but she wasn't doing that, either. So basically it was "proportional when it benefits me, equal when it doesn't" from the girlfriend, and THAT'S bullshit.

I support your choice, and you and your partner's ability to find what works for you. Other people weren't affording OP that same respect, and that was the problem. In my view (which works for us!), splitting 50/50 already lifts each other up, because it represents a huge savings from what we'd pay independently anyway. To be equal contributors was important to both of our senses of self-esteem and self-worth, so when it became apparent that my career trajectory was higher, my wife (then gf) rea…

I mean that's true. Since she's a woman, she's inherently less capable of supporting herself and needs a strong, smart man to care for her, right? Expecting equal contribution from her would be like assuming her income level were a result of her own choices and priorities, instead of it being lower because she's just not worth as much as him. Is that what you're saying?
/r/PussyPassDenied24/11/19 03:33 PM

Why is a "partnership" one-sided in your mind? Like, if one partner contributes 50 percent or less in every aspect, in what way are they "partners?"
/r/PussyPassDenied24/11/19 03:28 PM

If you agree to that, awesome. If he does more housework to support you, even more awesome. But if you insisted on equal in both, you wouldn't be an asshole.

Right - he should pay more, and she should cook/clean/etc. more to support him. Right?

I live in NJ, one of the most expensive states. I don't live in the city though, so that's part of it. If you're in a one-bedroom apartment my guess is you're in a city. That's definitely part of it. Don't live in the city. But 60k is definitely enough, so if it doesn't feel like it to you it can be worth having an outsider look at your finances and spending habits to see what you're doing wrong. It can help a ton!

The point isn't that she wanted an uneven split of bills, it's that she didn't want an uneven split anywhere else, like chores or anything. My wife and I don't split bills 50/50. I make much more, and pay 95% of our bills. In turn, she does more housework. We like our situation. But I wouldn't agree to pay 95% just because I make more but still do 50% of housework.

Actually, lots of families do. It's quite easy if you manage your money well and keep expenses low. For at least 5 years I made that and supported a stay at home wife and three kids. We didn't even have to sacrifice or scrimp. We just didn't smoke, drink, drove used cars (2, even! Chose reliable models and cared for them), lived in a quiet neighborhood in a 3-bedroom house. Ate out only occasionally, no expensive hobbies. Turns out, if you're just sensible about your life, 60k is plenty.

I found out that they did a survey and found that the median user of that sub is a divorced, 24-yo woman and like... so much makes sense now, lol.

The full thread. He doesn't make 4x as much working the same hours. And even if he did, so what?
/r/PussyPassDenied24/11/19 04:32 AM

So he should do 50% of chores, work twice as much, but pay 4x as much too? FOH

Why does that matter? They use the same amount of house/utilities.

GF makes 60k. That's plenty to support herself - she doesn't need a crutch. He works more hours, but still splits chores 50/50. Sounds like she sucks. I don't hear her offering to do more housework so he has more time to make "them" money.

Haha! That dude will instantly replace his gf if he feels like it. He's dating down, and both of them know it.

Why? Is equality bad?

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
