I went through the exact same situation. There is no easy way to say it or initiate the conversation that will make the news any less difficult. This sounds cruel but you just need to break it to her face to face. Answer any questions she may have but also be firm about your decision and make that clear. If you seem to be unsure about leaving it presents false hope which can be far more harmful in the long run.

I'm not from the US, but as I understand it's like this. If he moves out of the house its more likely during the divorce proceedings that he will lose ownership to his wife. She'll be able to argue as he's left and supporting himself elsewhere that he doesn't need the property whereas she does to continue raising the children. It's an unusual situation but I've heard of it happening to many couples and not just in the US.

Not exactly in the same boat 😅 but man that's fucking awful. Yeah I can't imagine, I'd be fucking ruined if that happened to me too.

Not overstepping at all buddy thanks for contributing. You're right that I did have power during that time to choose for myself, trying to avoid arguments I knew would happen if I didn't do what she said was my problem. Towards the end when things got really bad and I started thinking about ending the marriage is when I started to stand up for myself again. The first time I did she went to punch me, I just stood there and told her to go ahead if that's what she wanted. I think she realised then …

I'm really sorry to hear that, I'm glad you're seeking therapy and also appreciate that you took the time to write your more recent experience. What I learned most from being in such a horrible and toxic relationship is it made me realise what I wanted in my life to be happy. I took a year off to just recover mentally, repair old friendships and in general work on myself. I'm very fortunate in that my best friend is actually a very successful therapist and supported me every step of the way. Whe…

Thank you, I really appreciate your comment. I guess there's going to be other moments in the future and rather than running away or avoiding it just accept them and continue onwards.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
