Lead by example - show how well things are working for you. I think what you are doing now (saying "this is what I do" / "this is what works for me") is good, because it doesn't put any pressure on people. Secondly, don't cast pearls before swine. Recognise who actually wants help, and will be open to receiving wisdom, and who is caught up in ego games.

If we still had economies where one salary could hold a household, I wouldn't expect my partner to do chores. I had a very heavy workload this year and as much as I love cooking for my partner, I was relieved when he would cook for me every now and then! Not only are you strapped for time, but you have also been forced into taking on a very male role of provider: you bring stability to the family through your pay check and health insurance (rather than through managing the household). Perhaps this is contributing to the problem (for both of you) because it can throw off the dynamics of your relationship. I agree with some of the other comments re: bad timing. It seems careless that he ventured into this before you found employment closer to home…
