3	Male privilege Yeah, I checked. Seems you are right. 39,620 from breast cancer and 28,600 from prostate (in the USA). World wide the difference is even bigger, with 450 000 to 250 000. 6	Male privilege Did you really have to include "ratio of those who live past 100"? Do you not know that is mainly due to biology? Actually I'm not so sure about that. Men die earlier than women, in large part because we are less careful. 40% is from men smoking more and being more prone to unhealthy stress. 30% is from men being more prone to high risk behaviour (including suicide). 2	Male privilege Actually history really isn't long enough that we can draw many conclusions based on evolutionary advantage. There are plenty of animals that have matriarchies, so it's not really evolutionary disadvantageous. The reason we end up with patriarchies might just be a coincident. That said, do we really need to draw evolution into this? Evolution isn't capable of keeping up with todays world. Things are changing to fast. And we don't really need to be more fit to survive. I'm at home at the moment so I can't access the full study, but from the abstract: "With only one exception (Helsinki), the person-based suicide attempt rates were higher among women than among men. ". It's also important to note that they count people not suicide attempts so even people trying multiple times are only counted once.
